the female lead is indeed mei mei. however, before he orchestrates for her to find out that he didn't actually want her dead, she wants to keep her distance from him because she is scared. but even after finding out that he didn't actually want to get rid of her and that it was all a misunderstanding, she has already a deep bond of trust, later love, for the ML. besides, the marquis keeps bothering and intimidating her and the ML, which is why she doesn't want anything to do with him. he's constantly in her business, harrassingher, and using his position to intrude in her home, she just really doesn't like him. now that she's older, she also realizes that her relationship with him (as mei mei in that side yard) was maybe naive and immature, inappapriate even, just a young girl's crush.

yes in april haha!! i loved the additional 12 episodes though the last one made me BAWL. it also recontextualizes the ending for the standard 60 episodes because it’s not “happy” after all… they kind of fooled me a little there, but with all the extra scenes in the special, the ending here is much much sadder than i had thought at first💔
i’m so sad the show is so underrated because i thrive off of edits, and this show does not have many edits unfortunately :(
