CXQ was adopted into the branch of the child that died. His "father" did die as a child (killed by the fourth uncle), but they had to continue the fifth branch. So, he is technically completely unrelated to the Chen family in terms of blood relation, but they brought him up (more specifically San Ye). It will get explained in future episodes, however
