this is my 2cents,
shen family backed the crown prince (current emperor) and was framed and killed by the fraction who opposed him. so anyone can be the bad guy. the queen / current empress dowager (if she is not the emperor's biological mother) or the other princes. prime minister also possible if he aimed for other prince to take the throne

at this point, im going to be disappointed if shenrun/yanrui does not appear during xie family meeting 😂
