Anyone else deeply craving a bright smile from LBY? Excluding each time he's fake laughed (the bridge plot, and the bad joke), he has not shown a single genuine full smile to anyone. I really, really hope we get to see it.
The duality of LBY and Wu Lei is always so interesting to me considering Wu Lei smiles very easily and the BTS is chock full of them. What an amazing actor.
What ss did is also no right... She shouldn't have taken revenge there in the memorial. What she did is right…
They're both dealing with the shortcomings within their own personality. She refuses to accept him wholeheartedly, lacks trust, and prioritizes her independence and naïve loyalty toward the first person who shows her maternal affection. At a surface level, these faults are permissible and can be unlearned through time and patience. In the East Palace, it can kill her or it can kill someone else. LBY is still learning how to properly communicate with her while at the same time tread a line that doesn't pull her too closely into the dangers of the politics he's dealing with. I don't think he ever expected her to get so involved in the daily machinations of the palace to the point where she's directly affecting what he's been steadily working on while implicating herself with so many people so quickly. He's afraid, and her actions make him nervous because he's only learning about them *after* they've been done, and it's too late to undo. They both have a long way to go in learning to trust and communicate, but I can't say I fault LBY, who is more experienced in the palace and understands the implications on a much grander scale than she. He has warned her numerous times not to get too deeply involved, but her personality would never listen to that unless she learns the consequence herself.
Actually, unless they changed it , LBY is the one who will avenge her for all the bullying
Actually, she does avenge herself at first. It causes a huge fight between her and LBY when he finds out that not only did she not tell him when she was pushed in the lake, but she didn't tell him her plan to exact revenge (the buckets of human filth). They get in a huge fight, he storms out of the palace, and when he returns its to be punished for the revenge *he* exacted on the families of the girls who pushed her in the lake.
I'm not sure either. There is a scene in the novel where CSS gets a little drunk during a banquet. She actually…
Yes, it's at the Empress's birthday banquet. Seems like all they've changed (judging from the trailer) is the location of the kiss and she doesn't seem as drunk as she was described in the novel.
I love that this is not dubbed. I'm enjoying this drama so much. Dubbed drama usually turn me off.
Yesss! Totally agree. I would have been so upset if Wu Lei was dubbed over by someone else. He has an amazing voice and his talent with adding emotion to his voice during his big emotional scenes is always incredible. It would have been totally ruined.
You can listen to this great video made by CloudA. She describes where the name comes from and how its used. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3XmzichzzA
that clears things up, thank you! One of those things I couldn't stop analyzing over when hearing it, haha.

Thank you! So, to clarify, Ling Buyi is his given name at birth, and Zi Sheng was the name given to him when he reached adulthood. It doesn't seem like an interchangeable name with people who aren't close to him though - am I right in thinking he is typically only referred to as Zi Sheng from people in more intimate circles like the people I'd mentioned before? Like Nianniao for Shaoshang?
Ling Buyi's name. I tried looking this up myself, but I want to be sure I understand. Ling Buyi is also Ling Zisheng. It seems only people within his closer circles (his guards, his family, Emperor, royal family) call him Zisheng. Is Buyi the courtesy name used for outsiders/professional work? I noticed in P1 CSS only referred to him as LBY but now as they've gotten closer, now refer to him as Zisheng or Ling Zisheng. He also now refers to her as Shaoshang or Niaoniao (so cute when he does that).
Anyone know in the timeline when/how LBY's mother/aunt Huo Jun Hua dies? I know the bite scene happens right after. Just curious if she was killed or died from an illness, etc.
Anyone know what events lead up to that from the book? If yes- plz reply with spoiler. I'm just super curious…
That's really interesting. It seems a bit petty for the drama version of LBY to do something like that, but I can't imagine drama version of the Emperor ever voluntarily laying "a hand" on him either, so I'm interested to see if/how it was adjusted.
Question about the canning LBY gets (shown in the trailer)
