There was a time where China and Korea made joined projects but everything was stopped / unreleased after some international crisis between the two countries. Jade Lovers is probably never going to see the light of the day after so much time. Moreover, the FL was "blacklisted by the Chinese state regulators" (cf https://kisskh.at/people/944-zheng-shuang ) so this one drama has even less chance than any other joined project to ever be released.
is this drama for sure confirmed having a second season?? im debating whether i want to start this or not....if…
If you're waiting for a second season, you might have to wait another 6 years and it still won't be enough. This drama has an open-ending, that's why people are complaining since it was so good. As far as I was concerned, I did feel like the story was complete when I watched it in 2016. I didn't feel like I was left hanging on the ending, it was more like they left an opening for another story with the same characters. It's the kind of open-ending you can expect for a time-travel drama.
I had a hard time rating this drama. For like 25 episodes, I followed the hype and I was most certainly influenced by it as I rated it 9 at that time. But as I completed it with far less interest than at the beginning, I asked myself a few questions:
Will I remember the story? -1: I don't think so.
Why am I less invested in it? -1: I had expectations on how some revelations could have been done. -1: Something in the main theme highly bothered me. The leads actually started a war to get on the throne even though there was already a perfect candidate for that. So people fight and died for them for nothing. I mean, it could have been alright if this war was only against the villain. But no, it was all about their pride, they thought they were better than the other so they fighted, and then remembered the other guy.
What did I love? +1 : the visuals. About every scenes were beautiful. You can see the director cared a lot about this. It gave the drama a dreamy feeling.
Actually, the first love triangle wasn't necessary but I think this one is. I mean, this poor boy has to live his whole acting career under the name of his love rival. If he doesn't get the girl that's cruel, and if he does that's still a life-time reminder. Isn't that interesting?
9/10 - I loved this drama. It was interesting from start to finish. I didn't feel the need to fastforward. Moreover, for once, it was great to have an actual cold ML. I mean part of his job involves torture! Not that I like torture but it makes him highly unlikeable at the beginning of the drama, I'd even say frightening. Also the main villain is a sadistic pervert, which is actually not so common, at least not up to that point.
Sorry. I loved it at first too and there are some deep feelings involved even in the later part, but if you're looking for sweet time together, it's clearly not the focus.
8/10 - Quite good but don't watch it for the romance. Although it's present, this is more about how the FL gets stronger and stronger fighting for justice and trying to save her lover than their actual love story. They get seperated for quite a long time at some point. PS : I loved the music and the fighting scenes.
9.5/10 - For such a short drama, it was really well done and will be an easy rewatch. The pace is sometimes a bit too fast, it would be great to have a longer drama version of this.
The director (probably) to convince the actors in the highlight named 超甜吻戏大放送: "Which kind of kissing do young audiences love? They like to give a kiss and let it go or kiss a little longer." Answer written on screen: "Of course, kiss a little longer"
