The male lead planned this whole body swap. So he was pretty comfortable being a woman, since he planned this…
i don't mean that i was seeing it from a "romance" perspective, but that the tone of the kissing scenes have been weird. except the last one when na eun wanted to switch back & actually said "just pretend you're kissing a mirror" which is what i've been thinking the whole time but like the scene in the sex toy shop or at the mood party, the tone of the scene was like "tension" staring into each other's eyes when it's their own face, that's what i meant lol.
i get what you're saying. it's possible they just didn't feel the need to show any transition due to the short episode format & that the swap isn't the "main" plot. but i still think the writing for this show could definitely be better.
there's a few aspects of the body switch plot that really take me out of this drama.
one, when they have romantic tension moments - the actual actors are good at this, but in my brain i literally keep thinking "are they really intensely gazing at their own faces thinking about kissing" lol
two, besides the period issue, they really haven't addressed any gender related discomfort that would come from being in the opposite sex's body suddenly? eunho as na eun somehow does makeup & wears female clothing (like the girl's school uniform or HEELS) without any issue.
three, it weirds me out that their mannerisms always stereotypically match the physical body & not their souls. whether eunho kisses as himself or na eun in eunho's body, they make him the dominant one - holding her neck. if they played around with this in different ways, like because na eun's personality is originally quite domineering, then it would make sense to me. but they don't really do that, so it really distracts me.
i know many comments here complained about eunho & na eun not even really TRYING to act like each other & i agree. i think it'd be one thing if they played into the "brain injury" aspect of their accident... but the writing in this show is too weak. i think the actors are doing a great job & i'm curious if the many plot holes will be resolved. it's not unwatchable, but it definitely could be much stronger with better writing.
i KNEW that episode 12 was gonna be the turn into the depressing part, but i did not expect it to ENRAGE me so much after the past 3 great episodes. jiwon made NO SENSE in this episode. i felt defensive when many comments said she hadn't grown & felt that even though her development was slow & more realistic (which i normally hate) i actually liked it this time. but this episode was trash. i was impressed that park min young could say this dialogue & cry with the ridiculous lines they made her say.
tell me how i did not realize until literally the last 10 minutes that oh baek ryeon's name was a pun on "500 years"
this show was definitely on the meh side for me. not terrible or bad, but not great or amazing either. i didn't really feel the chemistry from this couple. but i did absolutely burst into tears for no good reason in the last "love room" restaurant scene LOL
i'm really tired of all the comments mentioning "perfect marriage revenge." these stories are both based off two separate webtoons that were written around the same time (i think 2021). there are 80 million stories with similar plots of the leads traveling back in time & it's also been the norm for as long as i can remember that kdramas with similar plots tend to air within the same year.
i remember in 2015 we had "kill me, heal me" but also "hyde jekyll, me" both about characters with dissociative identity disorder. in 2012 "faith" & "dr. jin" were both airing, about doctors time traveling to the joseon era. in 2018 "i am not a robot" & "are you human too?" both romances with AI robots. more recently in 2021, "beyond evil" & "mouse" were airing basically simultaneously & touched on police officers delving into the minds of psychopathic serial killers.
of course, all these dramas have differences & "marry my husband" vs. "perfect marriage revenge" are no exception. i loved both webtoons & i was insanely excited when i learned about both dramas. as someone who's absolutely interested in these revenge plots, i ALWAYS welcome another take on similar tropes!
why doesn't she break up with min hwan, he will end up marrying Soo min and a wedding will take place(as everything…
they tried to explain this one by one. first, she tried to break up with minhwan after returning & he got violent (remember they went to the police station). next, jiwon realized that to change her fate she needed to transfer it to someone else (sumin). they also showed us how sumin "acted out" when she got upset (the scene where she tripped jiwon at lunch).
now, she is slowly trying to push the two of them together while also living for herself: 1) standing up to the bullies gave her closure but also made sumin look crazy. so now sumin is angry & wants to get back at jiwon. 2) getting the makeover meant jiwon is getting all this attention & people saying how envious they are of her - how her & minhwan are the perfect couple. sumin is irritated by this which makes her want to steal minhwan. 3) jiwon hinted at sumin that minhwan just made a bunch of money on the stock market, & since we know from the past that she was motivated by the money from the insurance this will push them together as well.
sumin manipulates everyone to get things she wants, like how she is flirting with the gross manager to get a full time position. or how she manipulated the high school friends to bully jiwon. if there's nothing to gain for sumin, then she won't marry minhwan, which is why jiwon has to give her the reason to "take her trash."
I really like PMY and I'm loving her role here. I like to see female characters that fights for their happiness,…
i am with you on NIW. honestly when he was cast, i didn't think he fit the role of ji hyuk but i wanted to stay open minded. watching the first two episodes, i actually think it's nicer that they gave NIW room to grow (with his style & personality) because it actually is closer to the webtoon. ji hyuk's character is confusing at first because we only know him from ji won's perspective in the past - which is that he was a boss who expected hard work & rarely smiled. but ji won is already learning that ji hyuk's personality isn't what she thought, so NIW has a more difficult task of portraying a character whose words & actions can be interpreted multiple ways. whereas minhwan & sumin's true nature have already been revealed in the future, so ji won & the audience see all their actions through that lens.
i couldn't get through this show. i liked zhang ling he in the dramas i've seen him in so i wanted to give it a try. i pushed through 12 episodes & when i realized i wasn't enjoying it, went to the comments here & then decided to give up. i can absolutely understand why people give this show higher ratings if you want a simple youth drama, but this was not for me.
wow this drama did a really bad job of telling the love story... in the end i was just irritated. glad it was short! the actual dilemma of the female lead isn't uncommon, but there's a million dramas that depict these type of romantic choices in a much better way.
Huh? The whole point of CheongAh's backstory is to shed light on how deaf people are mistreated, not to suggest…
everything you said is accurate. plus i did think it was a really sad scene when eun gyeol was crying & saying that he felt lonely after realizing that his dad wasn't born deaf. though they are clearly a loving family, that doesn't mean it's not tough on someone to be the only hearing person. it's not surprising that as a teenager, your selfish thought process will be "if i prevent him from becoming deaf, then i won't be alone as the only hearing member"
The first two episodes really drew me in, and I decided to explore the webtoon as well. While I'm enjoying the…
i totally agree with you - i was very confused by this plot point & i was just hoping that when they introduce the grandfather that storyline will start to make sense somehow?
i also was a little confused by the route they took with yura. in the webtoon i thought the betrayal was worse since yura TOLD sehyuk to marry yi joo & she basically manipulated him & his sister under this veil of sickly sweetness/her money all the time. in the show, i'm struggling to see why sehyuk would even have a crush on her because she treats him like garbage? she is just throwing tantrums & acting mean to him when webtoon yura had this mask on that slowly unraveled as yi joo got her revenge.
i had no idea they were adapting this webtoon as well! i love it so much. obviously it could go in many different directions, but just in the first two episodes jung yoo min has blown me away?? she had to show such a range of emotions already & i'm rooting for her so hard! can't wait to see where this drama goes.
i agree with everyone's comments that from ep 7 i was skipping a lot more... lots of questionable character actions that were not addressed properly. overall i think this was a pretty good show if you are a sucker for a contract marriage trope like i am lol.
i just wanted to point out that i found the editing SO strange for this show. there were parts where they jumped around in the timeline, usually to reveal something later on, but the cuts were so abrupt that i kept questioning if i somehow skipped a scene.
as a drama on its own, i think this was pretty solid! it's a little hard for me to be objective since i read the…
but if iâm being super picky - i wasnât wrong in assuming that sejongâs jun just wouldnât have the same feeling as the webtoon character. that doesnât mean i disliked his portrayal, but i really loved how the webtoon depicted jun as the glue that kept the friend group together. how jun attracted people (including women) without really meaning to, because he was just that type of person.
i was one of the people who didnât want jun to end up with ira, but i was horrified at how they portrayed her character in this show? i wanted to skip every scene she was in because it gave me a headache. what was the point of giving him TWO childhood friend connections that had romantic connotations with jinju AND ira? iâm all for her relationship with jung hoon - that was super cute. but i got flashbacks to baek in ha from the cheese in the trap drama with how they depicted ira here lol.
suzy was amazing honestly. i sort of wish they presented doonaâs trauma in a better way. i didnât really like that the drama actually implied doonaâs romantic feelings for her manager were real. in the webtoon it was shown that jun believed doona loved her manager in a romantic way when it was clear she really saw him as a father figure since she was sincerely lacking parental affection. it was interesting that they added doonaâs mother being a piece of trash. i wondered if the show would add anything to make doonaâs situation âworseâ compared to the webtoon.
as a drama on its own, i think this was pretty solid! it's a little hard for me to be objective since i read the webtoon & watched the chinese animation adaptation, so i'm unsure if i'm subconsciously understanding character motivations from what i already knew... but there were clear differences for me & i still appreciated this show as a standalone. i'm surprised by the negative reviews; & i'm someone who dislikes the dramas that lean melo lol
Can you spoil the ending of the webtoon for me please, I really want to know before I delve into this.
you're definitely right; i can see the ending going either way. because there's only 9 episodes, i feel like they can't develop the full story in a way that would make sense... but you never know! as many people mentioned in the comments, there was a chinese animation version of the webtoon & that one stopped when joon & doona start dating, so i was wondering if they will go with that format. i also hope for a different ending in the show to be honest!
Does this drama consist of mystery or something like that? Judging by the trailer everything just feels so odd…
not really. doona's experience in the industry was not so positive & you kind of meet her when her mental health is at a low point. that is where the odd vibe comes from. when i read the webtoon, i kept feeling like something ominous was going to happen but later i felt like i was being unfair to the author. people can be traumatized by their past even if there wasn't one huge incident that happened to them - and that's kind of how this is written. it will be interesting to see if they change that to make it more dramatic for a show or if they keep the more realistic writing.
Can you spoil the ending of the webtoon for me please, I really want to know before I delve into this.
in the webtoon, joon & doona do not end up together. thereâs two time skips. one a few years later where we find out in flashbacks that doona & joon grew apart while he was doing his mandatory military service. they reconnect & doona lies to him about having a boyfriend so he can move on. then another time skip where joon ends up with one of the side characters ira who had always had a crush on joon. it was realistic, but not a super satisfying ending for romance fans lol.
