Title Call It Love
Reminds me very much of My Liberation Notes. More dramas that feel like this style: My Mister, Just Between Lovers,…
i think the "my mister" claim is coming from the characterization of the female lead. there is a very similar vibe in the way ji an & woo joo dress/present themselves, the tone and manner in which they speak, and obviously the repeated unfortunate circumstances they are experiencing. it's a little early to say the dramas themselves are similar because plot-wise i would agree with you, but i certainly see the "inspiration" in the female lead character.

i feel a little ridiculous saying this since this is a drama centered around preventing people from committing suicide... but episodes 10-13 were rough to watch. especially because it was the same general subject matter three times in a row.

overall i definitely appreciated this drama & i understand the high ratings! i was actually shocked because as i got closer to the end, i was worried the show wouldn't execute the finale right (like most dramas, as i'm sure everyone here knows). but i felt this show had a satisfying ending & basically tied up every plot point pretty well!
On Alchemy of Souls Feb 6, 2023
at this point i've watched almost every hong sisters drama and i haven't felt this enraged since the ending of "big" ten years ago. after almost 15 years of watching kdramas, i try to set expectations low for the endings since so many struggle with wrapping things up. but nothing upsets me more than when an ending to a show becomes so difficult to get through, it starts to negatively color how you saw earlier episodes that you initially loved.

prior to watching this drama, i saw many comments from people saying they choose to believe it ended around episode 15 or something like that, and i completely understand where they're coming from. i love lee jae wook and jung so min so much that i thought being prepared for an unsatisfying ending would be enough to get over it, but it wasn't. i skimmed through season 2 and it didn't make me feel any different.

besides the ending, i just felt that the pacing of this show was completely off. there were so many secrets being shared with all the characters, but i couldn't help feeling like the timing of each person finding out some information wasn't satisfying enough. like person A has a secret from person B and you're waiting for them to find out, but then person C learns the secret and then two episodes later person D learns the secret but we're still waiting for person B to learn this secret and it was so FRUSTRATING.

the only thing that makes me happy is all the actors that will get more roles due to the popularity of this series. lee jae wook, jung so min and shin seung ho were amazing in their roles.

a lot of people confused by the main characters but the only one confusing to me is kyung pil, because i just don't understand if he's supposed to be a friend or antagonist. he speaks to everyone in an antagonistic way but he's never malicious? since moon tae yu had really similar vibes in hospital playlist/forecasting love & weather, i can't tell if it's just an acting choice from him or the way the actual character is written...

He never says he doesn't or never wanted kids. Though he may have some past trauma, it's not the idea of children…
i didn't take ha ra's explanation as saying she thought a child would fix everything. she said she thought their problems were because they DIDN'T have a child, which can definitely happen 1) if people are struggling with infertility but both want a child and 2) since most cultures expect people to have babies after getting married.

like you said, eun beom never said if he did or did not want them, so it seems like ha ra's mistake was assuming he wanted a child without greater discussion. not that it would have helped back then, since by their own admission he just did whatever she wanted even if he didn't agree. the way she said it was that she wanted a kid badly and thought because they didn't have one, that was causing stress on them as a couple and making them grow apart... because she was oblivious to the other things eun beom never told her he was struggling with.

i definitely get why some people find this drama boring at some parts, but honestly their speeches to each other in the last episode was some of the cutest & most natural acting i've seen in c-dramas. i liked that specific scene very much & was impressed by the leads. overall i thought this drama was good!

as someone who doesn't really love choosing shows that make you cry, i was hesitating to watch this (and waiting for all episodes to be subbed) but the fairly high ratings made me give it a chance. i was hooked immediately. it's so hard to explain, because the show is a melodrama and clearly the subject matter is tough, but it is still really heartwarming. when this drama makes you cry, there were many times i was smiling through the tears.

so if you're hesitating to watch like me, i say go for it! if you're not sucked in by episode 2, then move on. personally the large amount of scenes in sign language made this drama more unique and interesting to me. i would love to know someone fluent in JSL so i could understand the true proficiency of all the actors/characters haha.

SFL's parents seem really happy with him and his mother but they know nothing about them. I doubt SFL's father…
this is exactly what i assumed they're setting up. it will be all well and good until all their connections are revealed. it would be more shocking/interesting to me if they do subvert that expectation and have both her parents like him after meeting his mom. part of me also wonders if mi kyung doesn't want a guy her dad likes, since they seem to have a bad relationship.

i am definitely still rooting for the main couple, but i do hope this drama /genuinely/ focuses on their growth as people before they get together - and this is from someone who doesn't love "slow burn" romances haha. this is one of the first dramas where i completely get why the leads are drawn to the second leads, because at this moment in time both second leads are better matches for them.

the leads both have strong insecurities/complexes that make them terrible together right now. but i agree with the comments that their tension is really fun to watch.

i know there are other more important changes to complain about, but i was so upset they changed the scene where jinyoung faces the bullies because i don't think i've ever laughed so hard while reading a webtoon as when i read that.

"i've got weak bones so i'm confident they'll break from the slightest blow. i bruise easily because my skin's thin & i get nosebleeds pretty often due to my weak capillaries. you can try to beat me up, if you want..."

it felt like they tried to make jinyoung into a badass cool guy when the point of his charm is that he's unapologetically himself in an unexpected way. also really wanted to see jae min following jinyoung around & wanting to be his friend lol.

i wasn't horribly disappointed compared to other webtoon adaptations, but i do agree with the many comments that there was a significant difference in acting from the present day high school kids & seo ji hoon/so ju yeon who definitely have more experience.

the acting of the leads was really great for this drama in my opinion. it's really difficult to find dramas that portray people being awkward in a way that feels genuine. this lead couple was so cute and their dialogue but also their silence/pauses felt like realistic conversations. and even though i don't mind some of the overacting that happens in asian dramas, i really enjoyed the fact that this lead couple didn't really over-exaggerate much since it didn't match their characters.

i definitely really loved this drama & am genuinely sad it's over. but i also couldn't help feeling like something was a little bit disjointed - whether it was the writing or editing, i'm still not completely sure.

dramas will often use flashbacks to show something that happened in the recent past or far in the past to demonstrate plot twists or give us the "full story," but i felt like this drama didn't do it well? i also understood that they were trying to compile various things celebrities go through and while i think so many of the plot lines were great topics to address, that was another thing that came off disjointed? i watched an interview where lee sung kyung said the writer chose all real incidents that happened to celebrities, which was 100% believable and upsetting. so i think it made me even more critical that so many of the negative characters seemed thrown in there for 3 seconds and then we were quickly moving onto the next thing.

but they did the fluff well & i will be watching FMV edits of this couple for the next few days LOL
On Sh**ting Stars May 9, 2022
i did get a chuckle when the president had that line to lee sung kyung like "the worst thing to watch in a romantic comedy is a real life couple acting together, and even if it's true you should deny it" since lee sung kyung did that herself with nam joo hyuk.... and since so many fans feel the opposite of what he said LOL

EP 2 is definitely better than 1. I love the bickering and, wow did Tae Sung nail that photoshoot. I feel like…
the synopsis just said that it was a drama depicting a korean top star and the people who share his world, which sounds like tae sung plus the staff around him (including han byul).

i honestly have not cared much about the forecaster uhm family storyline but that scene with his daughter today suddenly made me so emotional... it was so cute! but if he listens to what his wife said at the expense of his daughter, i will skip all their scenes until the end because that's RIDICULOUS.

I just love how mature the main couple resolve their problems, can't wait to see them grow more together.
right?! i found myself really squealing at ha kyung's explanation at the restaurant in the end. "i would regret it more if you misunderstood me" - i'm glad the growth is happening for them!! my only hope is that they keep this up and don't get into a cycle of disagreements and apologies now that their exes know they're together.

Sadly, I agree. I defended this drama for the first 4 episodes from people who said it wasn't good. But now, even…
haha i felt so similar! i felt like i wanted to defend this drama & i still don't think it's TERRIBLE but there are many confusing parts. i didn't agree with the negative comments about ha kyung & si woo getting "together" so early, because i think there are many good ways to show their relationship due to them not only working together but also working with both their exes, but i am going to be annoyed if they make it nonstop misunderstandings until the end. i like when couples get together early, but when the conflicts actually do help them grow. not just miscommunication over & over until they're magically a great couple the last 2 episodes...
On Forecasting Love and Weather Feb 26, 2022
i like this drama/the cast and i will definitely be finishing it to see where it goes. with that said, i have mentioned this in another comment replying to someone but this drama has a really big weakness that is continuing with each episode - they're telling us everything instead of showing it.

everyone is saying si woo doesn't seem naive and ha kyung doesn't seem professional. at this point, i do agree - and i think it's because the synopsis set up the background of the characters instead of how they act throughout the drama. si woo was naive when it started, but he obviously has wounds from his ex (and it seems like they're implying his parents too). ha kyung was a high-achieving professional as a lower employee but now that she has more responsibility, she's a mess.

i am genuinely confused on if this show is trying to slowly reveal things or if they're just explaining them BADLY. in episode 5 ha kyung is talking to forecaster uhm about how he's changed from the person she knew years ago when she went to some training class he led. i was like "...what? where we were supposed to know this whole time that they've known each other for years based on the interactions they showed so far?!" if that was supposed to be some sort of reveal, it was not done right.

it's one thing if this story-telling device is used for some things, but this show is doing it too often. we keep hearing them describe how someone is when their scenes depict the opposite of that or they explain feelings without showing us that feeling.

but anyway i love minyoung so i'm crazy biased & wondering how ha kyung will change as a character over the next few episodes. if she doesn't change at all, i definitely think i will be a little disappointed lol.

yeah, i think it's fair not to like the show so far. i have found myself skipping some parts already, but i am definitely biased with park min young so i will watch until the end haha. i also felt frustrated by her indecisiveness but later on i thought maybe they are doing it on purpose - like she is overthinking/questioning her decisions because so far everything she chose so far turned out wrong.

i do think that song kang played the ML naive in the first 2 episodes (with how he talks back to superiors & how he was oblivious to his ex's unhappiness with him) but i agree that now he does seem to be more mature in episodes 3 & 4. this is not the first time the tags or description of a show seem wildly inaccurate though, so i guess i'm just used to it even though it's not helpful for viewers who like or dislike certain themes.

i will add though, that i think it's not surprising you feel this way since the drama is "telling" us the background of the FL instead of "showing" us, which is what film/dramas are supposed to do. so i think that is a bit of a weakness so far.

oh & she was trying to catch a taxi LOL they had the scene of her holding out her hand trying to get one while she was on the phone. but it seemed like they tried to imply the traffic was so bad she just got on the bus instead, which was also unclear from how they shot it.
