First Life (Ep1-8)
Bai Qian - a Deity, a nine-tail fox, the only daughter of the fox king with four brothers, a disciple of the High God Mo Yuan. Basically she is a member of the most powerful family from Qing Qiu allied with the Heavenly Realm. At the end of this life, Mo Yuan scarified himself to seal the Demon King. Bai Qian became Goddess and the queen of Qing Qiu.
Ye Hua - a lotus spirit with some hidden background which will be revealed in the later story. Mo Yuan planted the lotus in his garden. At end of this life, Ye Hua disappeared redundantly to reincarnate into the grandson of the Heavenly King.

Second Life(Ep9-27)
Bai Qian - At the beginning she tried to re-seal the Demon King. The job was done but she was also hit by the curse from the Demon King, lost her power and memory, became a mortal (Su Su) in the human world. This life is actually her love trial for her level-up to the High Goddess. She survived with a broken heart and returned to the immortal world as a High Goddess. The identity of SuSu is considered dead by all people including Ye Hua.
Ye Hua - Reborn as the grandson of the Heavenly King and the crown prince of the Heavenly Realm. A black dragon. Fall in love with Bai Qian in the Human world without knowing her real identity. Since Bai Qian could not remember her name, YH named her Su Su.

Third Life(Ep28-58)
Bai Qian - A High Goddess, Queen of Qing Qiu, Fiance of the Crown Prince from the Heavenly Realm, aka. Ye Hua. has no memory of the second life.
Ye Hua - Crown prince of the Heavenly Realm. Was shortly in the human world as Liu Ge Zhao when he was punished by his grandpa for breaking some stupid rules. holds the memory of the second life.

The wrong is how fast the rating of 1 increases. For example, NIF was at 9.2 or 9.1 for nearly three years. Then suddenly in one night the rating dropped to 9.0 with over 90 ratings of 1. And i happened to check the rating just the day before, there were over 70 ratings of 1. One night 20 people all gave 1? Are u kidding me? As a 2015 drama, NIF did not even get 20 ratings in a week now.Lol

During the latest round of attacking, top rated kdrama were also affected. The No. 1 drama My Mister was dragged down a lot in one day as well. But now everything back to normal.

Well, in Chinese Mythology. Deity is achievable by cultivation. Through cultivation, a spirit (plant, animal even a stone) can be a Deity as well as human. Deity has levels. In this drama, there are fours levels: Deity, High Deity, God/Goddess and High God/Goddess. At the beginning of this drama, Bai Qian is a Deity already. She is a white nine-tails fox. As a member of an ancient mythological creature clan, she was actually born as a Deity. Then she was brought to Mo Yuan and cultivated under his guidance. She will go through all levels till high Goddess around 20+ep.

Not every Deity could advance to High God/Goddess level. The later levels are much more difficult to reach (there are totally less than 10 High God/Goddess in the drama). The moment of the leveling up is always the most difficult one, either level-up or death forever. Living through the powerful lightening strikes is believed to be the most common trial given by the heaven for the level-up moments. The worst is what Bai Qian will endure in her second life: a love trial when she is forced into the human/mortal world. A lot of Deity could not get over the lost and suffer during the love trial and lose their lives.

Another common concept in Chinese fantasy dramas/novels are the realms. There are always different Realms. Most common ones are: the Heavenly Realm, the Demon Realm, the Human Realm. There are also Realm for Monsters/Spirits. For example, in this drama, Qing Qiu is such place, lead by the fox family, dominated by spirits of animals, plants and other non-human beings.

Agree with your saying here. I think the drama did not really clarify the XiLing part. In the novel it is more clear that XiLing is divided into three power groups. One is the judgement department, more like Inquisition institutions in our history. One is the temple lead by Wei GuangMing. And the other one is more a group of prophets. The first one is the dark side one. The second is actually the good side of Xiling. Wei GuangMing was respected by many people. In later part of the story, when the whole world was trying to kill SS and NQ after SS was revealed as the kid of Hades, Wei GuangMing's followers (not just a few but a lot of people) used their lives to help SS escape. Stupid in a way yet very touching. Yes, I hope in S2, the drama could dip a bit deeper into Xiling instead of making them just like a group of killers.

Very well said. I agree with nearly all of your opinions except the final one. I found Ever Night has its own way of interpreting good and evil. Most of the characters can not be simply categorized into villain or hero. Even our ML, he is also not traditional righteous hero type. It is more kind of collision between beliefs. A lot of people did horrible things for their devotion to their beliefs or for their loved ones.

lol. The historical drama is very special. It is hard to get all the tradition/titles/relationships but once you are in, it is too addictive. :-D This drama has such beautiful costumes and set design, I could stare at the screen just for these elements. I want those clothes~~

NIF was at 9.2 for a long time. TMOPB was at 9.1, then dragget to 8.8.

There are seriously some haters there. NIF was dragged to 9.1, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms was dragged to 8.8. My gosh! What's wrong with these people?!

You are sharp. lol. In the original novel, the Ghost King is about to marry him. For the censorship, the drama changed to this step son thing. Actually in the novel, the Ghost King is good looking and the disciple did later have some complicated feeling towards him. :-)

I think Mark’s career focus is always film. TMOPB is his testing step into the drama zone. In some interviews, he showed his surprise about the popularity of the drama and also the puzzling about some overly enthusiastic fans and crazy media. He is a very low profile actor for years even today. He even mentioned he will not consider another such IP drama in the near future. At that time, i already have the feeling that he might not be in the pillow book.

Rumors are that Yang Mi will show up as the supporting role but no Ye Hua. It is easy to understand. The sequel is also a production from Yangmi’s company Jaywalk. Yang mi will definitely support. Mark Chao obviously focuses more on films all the time. TMOPB is his first drama in the last ten years. He is a very low profile actor. In one interview he mentioned that he was shooked by the popularity of the drama and also a bit overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of fans and the media. It is a love story of Ye Hua and Baiqian through three lives. Till where u watched, it is just their first life. BaiQian is the disciple of MoYuan, a high god and Yehua is the golden lotus in Mo Yuan’s garden and was took care by Bai Qian. Yes, the ML did not show up as a human or god till ep9. lol. The first life is mere introduction to their background and characters. Also it lays the foundation of the affection of Ye Huan and Mo Yuan to Baiqian in the later eps.

Liu Haoran is great. But the casting of a character is not only about the acting. Otherwise basically we will watch all dramas played by just a handful of skilled actors and actresses.

In this drama, obviously the casting team made their compromises between the acting skills and the temperaments of the actor himself. Actually maybe the later is more important for them. If you look at the rumored second NQ, Dylan Wang and CFY has so much in common. They both are very young, tall, good looking, with a physique of 20+ man. They have the right charm between a boy and a man. They all have a sincere look yet from time to time radiate some bad boy attitude. The casting team clearly knew what kind of traits they are looking for for NQ and they want those traits come from actors charisma himself not by acting. Liu Hao Ran or Leo Wu were not in their radar because their charm and temperament are totally different. Basically CFY has the look, the fair acting, the charm and good chemistry with others. I was sold by the whole package.

I found CFY’s NQ is convincing and i’m also looking forward to the next NQ.
