Title The Untamed
I love this series. I'm just curious as to why they have voice actors? Wang Yi Bo and Sean Xiao have great voices…
There are some general reasons about dubbing in historical cdramas. You can check it out in Avenuexs video: https://youtu.be/q2wAzbgjt8A

But there are some special reasons for this drama. QCL is the drama adaptation for MDZS which already has two successful adaptations in animation and audio drama. The production side wanted to keep the IP production consistent by using Bian Jiang, LWJ’s voice actor in the animation and Lu Xingzhi, WWX’s voice actor in the audio drama. They are both top notch voice actors in China, have a lot of fans. Especially Bian Jian, who is also the voice acting director in this drama. Actually think of the bright side. The bromace genre in China is more like a treasure hunting program now. Since most established actors are not in this game, the chances are left to those good-looking, talented but less-known or underrated actors. With Guardian, I know Zhu Yilong and Bai Yu. With CQL, I know Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo. I’m really glad about it and looking forward to the next bromance drama with fresh faces. :-)

oh, i see your point. :-) Unfortunately in China, bromance dramas are not considered to be mainstream. Nearly all actors tried only once and then turned to other genres. So I’m not surprised see Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibos next work is a common romance or others.

I read a rumour from youtube that there is a rumour about xiao zhan co star with yang zi??? I am so sad when i…
Why sad? I’m happy for Xiao Zhan. Yangzi is a very good actress, even if due to her looking, she is kind of limited to rolls of the innocent girls, she never fails to deliver different personalities and characters growth. She is popular because of her amazing acting skills. Moreover she is career boomer for her partners. Nearly all actors after pairing with her get a huge jump up in their career. Deng Lun last year and Li Xian this year. So she is the best option for Xiao Zhan if he wants to have a romance drama.

Drama characters are drama characters. Actors are actors. They did one very good role does not mean that they have to fix on this kind of role or drama. Xiao Zhan has great potential in acting. The collaboration with some good actresses like YZ will surely help him a lot. Looking forward to it!

Douban Ratings:1. The Untamed = 7.42. The King Avatar =73. Go Go Squid =6.5Wow!!! I think The Untamed is most…
very popular Yes, most popular NO. The first two dramas are web dramas only and of special topics so their audience are limited online and within young generation. Go Go Squid is a satellite TV drama + online streaming. It is popular on a way bigger scale and among broader audience. GGSs viewing rate as the satellite TV drama is over 2%. It is a very very high rate. Normally over 1%, the production team already throws a party. There are probably one or two tv dramas reaching 2% every year. Therfore actually GGS is most popular drama in China in July. But CQL is the most online discussed drama for sure due to the contribution of its fans.

I can't be bothered writing a full review right now but I will leave a comment. For those who shy away from Chinese…
I found the focus on the BL element is an understatement for this work. There are enough non-BL readers falling to love the story. All the characters are rich and well written. The readers feel their joy, pain and struggling. The drama did a great job in conveying the core of the novel (struggling of Humanity, the question about good and evil, etc) with the delicate set design and the amazing cast. Why do we need to use explicit intimating scenes to define a BL drama? Is the hype over these elements the only thing for a BL drama to attract audience? Shouldn't it be the story itself?

I was the one that added the tag "Romantic Subtext", and I think it perfectly describes this drama: The feelings…
Are you sure you saw kissing or intimate skin ship in the Anime? There are a lot Donjinshi drawings after the anime, which goes beyond Bromance level. The Anime itself is also subtle.

I was a huge fan of Love O2O and want a new fluffy and easy-to-enjoy romance drama. How's this show?
I like both. They are all nice, cute, easy-to-watch soft romance dramas. Totally different story lines. In O2O, the ML is more dominant in the relationship in my opinion. In this drama, the ML and FL is more equal, maybe sometimes the FL is more on the upper hand. Just imagine if Sheldon falls in love with Penny in the Big Bang Theory. A lot of funny moments.

Currently watched up to 26 eng subbed and watched up to 30 in raws. Those that read the novels:Can you guys tell…
Regarding the dubbing, most modern cdramas record voices on site but most costume dramas ( wuxia, xianxia) use dubbing because the shooting site is too noisy with the wiring machine, big fans and the set construction for later scenes. Although dubbing but quite some subbing are using the actors own voice. Special cases are: the actor has weak ability for the line delivery; the actor has strong dialect accent; the actor voice does not fit the character. In this drama, it is more likely tencent, the production company, wants to keep their IP series consistent by using the voices from their anime and audio drama. Same as in their new released big IP drama, the King’s Avatar, which also has a successful anime already, they used all voices from the anime.

Hello, why is it so important for a man to wear a sword? Is it kind of a rule, a decorum for a man in wuxia world?…
Yes, cutenetizen is right. It is a Xian Xia drama, fantasy with immortals and demons. In the setup of this Xianxia story, sword is connected with the spiritual energy of the cultivater. And they need the sword to fly.

Title The Untamed
It is #1 amongst dramas that are currently airing so far. On Douban, it went from 4.8/10 (first week) to 6.7/10…
Actually 6.7 is already very good for such drama. As the others mentioned, historical or fantasy cdrama generally do not get high ratings on Douban. Last year’s hit drama Ashes of Love with a 7.7 is considered to be a good one already. Not to mention, ten miles of peach blossoms, aka, eternal love, which is rated 9 here on MDL, get only 6.4 on Douban. The Untamed is now higher than that. :-D. But overall the rating on Douban is way more strick than MDL. Over 7 is good. Over 8 is very good.

PS: Goodbye Princess was very well received in China. A 7.5 is very reasonable. It seems Chinese audience have higher acceptance on tragical endings than international fans. :-)

You are referring to the characters or the actors? If the characters, both should be at the finial year of uni.…
I think the common age for a Chinese 4th grade Uni student is 21 or 22. :-) The FL actress was two years older than this age. The ML actor was actually a 3rd year student in his Uni.

Does anyone know how old the main couple is on the show? I didn’t quite catch it also, who else thinks Gu Wei…
You are referring to the characters or the actors? If the characters, both should be at the finial year of uni. If the actors, the FL was born in 1995 and the ML was born 1999. Yes, he was just 19 years old during shooting. :-)

why it is related with a love so beautiful?
They are both from novels from the same author. In the novel, Si Tu Mo is Xiao Xi's colleague and her roommate in Uni. Fu Pei is Xiao Xi's boss and Jiang Chen's roommate in Uni. Remember the scene, Xiao Xi, Jiang Chang having steamboat with Xiao Xi's colleagues in EP22? They are Fu Pei and Si Tu Mo. But in the drama, they cut this connection out.

They both are dubbed but their original voice and line deliver are super. You can check the BTS, especially CXX,…
They normally chose the voice actor with a similar voice. :-) From the info on the Chinese website, her voice is dubbed by Lu Geng Yi. From the undubbed clipping, PXRs voice is also a bit more mature than the dubbed one.

@ninan and @dechen choden were right. They cut out the whole chunk of a very good story. The cut portion tells…
The scene of the 1st bro sacrificing himself to save LCY is really touching. LCY was really an innocent and kind boy before the death of his brother. Yes, there were two batch of assassins. The first group was from Minister Gao and the Empress. That's why they stopped stabbing the CP when LCY blocked their way since they were not allowed to hurt him. The second group was from DanChi. From what I understood, it was not really unplanned. The 2nd Prince was behind it. It looked like from real DanChi but from the talking of 2nd Prince, he was definitely in it.

https://youtu.be/jCvqZCcW62gBonus show ep2 with eng sub is out!!!!
He totally is! hahahahaha

I found these two short epilogues hilarious. For example, in ep1, LCY was really a tea vendor and XF called him Lao Wu. And in ep2, Pei Zhao guided the bridge. and the lines, LCY: do u know who my father is? XF: do u know who my grandpa is? lol.

Which scenes were deleted. Do you have links?
Too many deleted scenes...

1. Death of the CP, aka, elder bro of LCY. Personally i think they should put this 10 mins scene back. So many people complained about LCYs obsession on the revenge for his brother. This explained why.

2. XF first time in costume of Li and More scenes of LCYs aunt.

3. Sweet intimate interaction between two leads.
i.e. the aphrodisiac porridge scene.
