Thanks for the explanation! I have to say as as an non-instrument player and a frequent WuXiao drama viewer. I tends to just ignore these issues and I did not actually realize it much. :-D
Actually not most cdramas are dubbed, it is more like most of historical/Xian Xia/Wu Xia cdramas are dubbed. A…
Somthing fun. In this episode of Day Day UP in 2017, the voice actor of Lang Wang Ji, Bian Jian, was one of the invited guests. Wang Yi Bo was on the side. Kind of funny, who would think of their connection two years later? :-D

You are welcome. :-) I love AvenueX's channel. A lot of informative videos about Cdrama and the entertainment industry.
The intro video about Hengdian mentioned about free of charge for filming crews. It is not totally true. From what I read, the free policy only started last year and only applied to certain types of dramas/films. Unfortunately the historical drama is not on the list. But one important thing is true, that the film studio is open for public. Tourists and fans, of courses noises, are everywhere.

Agree. When it is done nicely like here in the Untamed, it is great! From my observation, there are more and more historical cdramas starting to use voices of the actors/actresses in the last two years. From the big budget one like the Longest Day in Chang'an and Story of Ming Lan to the small web drama like the Romance of Tiger and Rose (ML is dubbed but FL and most other side characters are using their own voices) which is airing now. Nice to see the changes. :-)
I don't know why this drama is so popular. It is not bad with bromance and story but it is nowhere near the quality…
holding the flute on a chin? That is not flute. That is a traditional Chinese musical instrument, called Xiao. It is supposed to be put on the chin vertically. https://youtu.be/elkEHPf4lkA
I have a question, and it might be because I am naive in terms of Chinese drama, but I saw somewhere that there…
Actually not most cdramas are dubbed, it is more like most of historical/Xian Xia/Wu Xia cdramas are dubbed. A lot of cdramas with modern background, which have less exposure internationally are using original voices.
The reason for using dubbing in historical cdramas lies not only on the accent issue but also the on-site recording possibility and budget issue. Basically there are nearly no production team of a historical drama can afford on-site recording because it is just way too expensive. Not like in a modern drama, which might only need a flat or a shopping street. A historical drama team has to either rent the traditional buildings in the film base or build their own houses. For example, in the Untamed, from the BTS, we can see the Lotus Pier is a set built completely indoors by the team while other places like Gu Su Lan Sect or Nie Sect is the ready-for-rent buildings from the Heng Dian Film Base.
In the case of self-building, normally shooting and Set-Constructing are parallel. i.e half of the indoor studio place is used for shooting scene A while the other half is used for building sets for scene B. So when shooting scene A, the background noise of drilling and hammering totally dominate the recording. In the case of the rented buildings, there are always multiple production teams using the film base at the same time. When one team is shooting a peaceful scene, the team in the neighbor building might shoot wedding or war scenes. Again the loud noise in the background. Unless the team can afford to rent a lot of neighbor buildings together in the film base or wait to build the set after the shooting, on-site recording in a historical cdrama is just a dream. Then when it comes to using voice actors or not, the budget issue hits again. Since the voices are dubbed in the post-production, most of the actors or actress already moved on to their next jobs. It is hard to get all of them back for the recording. Plus professional voice actors are much faster in the work. 50 eps dubbing work can be done in a week and they are a lot cheaper than the actors/actresses. Money, money, money. Shooting historical dramas are just burning money.
Just finished this awesome drama which has become my favorite show of all time, and cried for a solid 20min after…
I like this deep analysis of the ending from this youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHoanJtuFr0 This channel really makes me appreciate a lot of the hidden details in the drama. Enjoy~ :-)
I really like that you shared this, and personally I am going to read all of it. So thank you. However, I'd like…
Yes, every Xian Xia novel or drama will use a bit different world setting. The glossary list ist just a general intro for the newcomers. :-)
The world setup and atmosphere in the untamed is more close to those old ghost hunting HK movies in 90s, especially when it comes to the horror part. The two directors are from HK, maybe that’s the reason.
What's the difference between Wu Xian's death in the drama and the one in the novel?
https://youtu.be/oM25SA9oYrk I would recommend this video from Avenuex. She talked about the difference of the death of WY between the drama and the novel and how LZ suffered in different ways. A very interesting video.

The Untamed will never pass the censorship of TV dramas which is way more strict than the Web dramas. :-D The web series are normally targeted at young audience only while the TV series are for family with all ages. The wider the audience, the stricter the censorship. That's why the audio dramas are the closest to the original novel since it has really the smallest market.
Unfortunately all these awards are open to tv dramas only. So far the most well known tv awards which includes web dramas is Rong Hua Awards. Rong Hua Awards 2019 will be hold on 26 Oct. The Untamed is nominated for the best tv/web drama along with other 19 dramas like Like A Flowing River, Go Go Squid, The Story of Ming Lan and The Longest Day in ChangAn.
The audio drama is really something! The new Season 3 Ep 12 covers the bath scene in Chapter 95 with kisses and the confession of WWX in the temple to LWJ is in Ep13.
I remember seeing pictures of the bruises on their lips but didn't understand the significance... are they implying…
Actually I tried very hard to find the scene but failed as well. There are some images on twitter about the bruise as well. I guess we have to be like the twitter owner who slow motion played the video while zooming the focus like that. :-D I just can't do that. Kind of embarrassed. like a stalker of WangXian. :-D
Honestly speaking, it is highly likely that we are overthinking too much but the imagination just went wild~~

Maybe even more than kissing if taking the assumption in that twitter. :-) But i don’t think there is any cut scene for that. They just gave some hints as bonus for novel fans for their imagination. Anyway, ep43 is definitely a turning point of their relationship. Finally WWX opened his whole heart to LWJ.

And this, a short intro about Hengdian Film Base/Studio
There is a very nice video explaining this dubbing issue by AvenueX on Youtube. You can have a look. :-)

It could be a big help for the audience who are new to the Chinese XianXia drama as well. :-)

Since it is the same voice for WWX in the drama, my imagination goes wild. hahahaha~
Honestly speaking, it is highly likely that we are overthinking too much but the imagination just went wild~~
Actually the VC of WWX in the audio drama is the same voice actor for WWX in the drama. So we can very much do the rest of imagination. :-)
