how do you identify idol from non-idol? I thought idol just mean pretty face???
Quite some idols are also professionally trained, more focusing on stage performances like singing and dancing. Acting is also in their training plan but not the focus. Idols are not all about pretty faces although good looking is almost a must for idols. The unique talent is the key to stand out. There are a lot of talented idols as well. But yes, in term of acting, the professional actors win.

i.e. Ep3, the famous interaction: Is it pretty? Perfect! It is not in the scripts!!! ZZH just suddenly could not resist, wanted to tease back because he thought it is ZZS's natural reaction based on his character. GJ did not jump out of the character because of the sudden change of the lines. He reacted perfectly as WKX.

Also Ep3, GH smelled his hand and rubbed his fingers after touched ZZS's face. It was also self designed..

Ep12, in the iconic sun bath scene, the stylist originally tightened and straightened ZZS's outer dress but ZZH pulled it loose, leaving one side hanging down the shoulder. He thought in this circumstance, ZZS was totally relaxed, thus the dress should look loose and casual.

These two strongly remind me of the actors in Guardian, also accdemically trained good actors.

no offense to anyone, but so glad they actually got real actors to play the roles instead of idols.
ZZH and GJ are all accademically trained actors. They both worked years in numerous drama projects before they landed in this drama. It does make the difference. Their interviews show their professionalism in acting when asking about their understanding of their characters. The thing impressed me most is that they were so into the characters that they designed some of the iconic lines or scenes spontaneously on site.

Anyone read the novel and can shed some light on who is the more powerful fighter? Obviously ZZS is dying so he's…
I remember reading it somewhere: they will be very much equal when ZZS was at his full capacity but if they were in a situation like the fight-to-death duel, WKX will win because WKX's martial arts is aimed only to kill. It makes sense. Think about the two famous skills from ZZS's sect, which is the special steps and disguise skill, they are more for collecting intelligence.

New fan here... can someone pls tell me if their respective agencies banned WY and XZ to speak or be in public…
Every time they have some interactions in public, it will be on the hot search. If it was in the drama promotion period, it is fine but now the drama was aired a year and half ago, such hot searches can only add negative influences and attracts haters and crazy solo fans. No actors want to be remembered by their relationship gossips instead of their work and acting skills. To avoid these hot searches, both sides want to lay low, therefore you hardly see any interactions of them in public. Of courses CP fans can always find their own fun by observing the moods of GG and DD when they showed up in the same event.

How can it be incest when they aren't even blood related nor live together. JianJian lives with her "adopted"…
:-) nice that you made it. Yes, all those comments puzzled me so much that i sometimes questioned myself: are we watching the same drama? :-D If they felt so uncomfortable about their intimacy, shouldn't they complain from ep3? Instead they are totally happy with it till ep10 or later. I'm with full of question marks. Really? really? that is how a 16 year girl and 18 year old boy behave as siblings in their standard?????

The chibi donghua version, MDZS Q just ended. If some of you haven't watched it yet, go watch it now. It was cuteness…
chibi donghua MDZS Q is gold. It heals my broken heart. You missed the audio drama. It is the closest adaptation to the original novel, yes, including nearly all the bl contents which are censured in the donghua and the drama. Not to mention its amazing production quality. Highly highly recommend!!!

Agree. Actually for me, it is not even just subtly implied. It is obvious. JJ's feeling to LX is more subtle for me but it is also tracable, especially when you see how differently she treats LX and ZQ.

How can it be incest when they aren't even blood related nor live together. JianJian lives with her "adopted"…
Wait. Which sister will be so clingy to her brother like JJ, koala hug her brother like JJ? Which brother will hold his sister hands and look at his sister like LX? From ep1, the moment JJ saw LX, with that sparkling eyes, i knew there will be romance between them. Not to mention so many breadcrumbs the writer dropped in their early years. They were never siblings. Honestly speaking, I'm very bothered when people consider their such intimate (obviously cross the line) interaction in teenage as siblings then their awkward interaction after 9 years separation in their adulthood as incest.

I think a lot of people think they are siblings because they call each other brother and sister. In western culture, the calling of brother and sister is limited to siblings but in Chinese or a lot Asian culture, calling each other Ge and Mei does not mean they are siblings. It is just endearing term for the close relationship among the same generation. Neighbor, colleague, even lovers. That's why the neighbors are talking to JJ father to get one of the boys as son in law. Nobody sees them as real siblings. Actually not even the fathers. Otherwise JJ father will not act like that when he saw the koala hug. If he really sees them as siblings, how could it be possible to just soft complain. Not to mention LX father is so happy to get JJ as daughter in law.

:-D I think you might need to have a bit culture background info. Basically in Asian culture, calling each other brother or sister does not mean they are siblings. It is very context based. Brother/sister in a lot occasions is just calling between the same generation with close relationships. It can be your colleagues, your senior/junior, your neighbor, your cousin or other distant relatives etc. In Chinese culture, it is not uncommon to call each other Ge and Mei between lovers. It is just endearing terms for the lovers. That is the difficulty of Chinese language learning. It is very much context-based. You can not take it as direct translation. Is this drama, Jian Jian calls Ling Xiao Ge. At the beginning which means big brother in the neighborhood but as their relationship changed, she calls him Ge with another level of intimacy inside which very much means my lover already. :-)

Review The Untamed
This is a beautiful review! Thanks for sharing!

As for the ending, they two are together. :-) Actually the real order of the scenes in the end is first the turning around and laughing scene and then in front of the waterfall standing together scene. But due to the censorship, they rearranged the sequences to make the ending appear open. More like if you get it, then it is it. In the special version and the Japanese TV version, they used the original happy ending version. I did not see them myself, but saw a lot of twitters about the comparison of them.

Anyway, I still like the current ending a lot. It is beautiful in a hidden way. A lot of imagination are raised afterwards. Weiying's outfit was not the same. He traveled back to the old place. Why? Could it be that he finally realize his feelings to Wang Ji? Throughout the drama, we saw clearly Wang Ji's the feeling to Wei Ying but the feeling of WY to WJ was vaguely presented. The separation kind of helped or forced him to understand what he really wants from WJ. If the ending gives so much thoughts, it is definitely a successful ending.

One of the best analysis of the ending is from Tian Mi Jun, https://youtu.be/DHoanJtuFr0. Strongly recommend. Be sure to turn on the cc. :-)

Some are dubbed by other voice actors/actresses but I know for sure Wang Kai did his own dubbing.
The two male leads Hu Ge and Wang Kai all dubbed themselves. And quite some others like Xie Yu, Xia Jiang, the two aides of Mei Chang Su, etc.

yes, but majority are dubbed by the actor/actress themselves.

guys isn't it 40 eps. how come it's 46 here and on all sites 40 ??????
As written, the main broadcaster for this drama was Hunan TV. During the broadcast time, they recut the 40 eps into 46 eps (same contents) to get more Ads money (30min contents+10min Ads). MDL uses the eps number from Hunan TV.

I feel that you are kind of expecting in the wrong direction. In the Untamed, villain is never just about one…
This drama is really different from a lot of classic dramas, in which the major conflicts happened normally between the hero and the villians. The hero here actually barely knew the major bad guy and had very limited interaction with him in the whole serie. The bad guy did trigger a whole chain of events which lead to the ultimate tragedy for our hero however his end target was in a way sadly never the hero. Anyway, I just want to say, maybe let go the expectations of the villian storyline, you might enjoy it more. :-)

Understand. In the early episodes things are just on the surface. The bad side does look obviously shallow. As the story unfolds, the conflicts are sharpened, the line between the bad and good will be blurred. Then comes the strong point of this drama, the depict of humanity in all situations for both "good" and "bad" guys.

I feel that you are kind of expecting in the wrong direction. In the Untamed, villain is never just about one bad guy like in a lot of classic dramas. The real evil here did not just come from one single super cunning and scary guy. A lot of stupid guys can create even a bigger tragedy. Although it is a fantasy story, it really reflects a lot of our modern society in terms of this topic. Very relatable. You will see what I mean if you reach later episodes.
