It was good until the finale episodes when the third rate writer wrote some outrageous scenes to get to the confrontation…
FANTASY FICTION: In America, we're known for big budget blockbuster action movies/series *without* any logical realistic storylines, like mega-hits/multi-versions FAST & FURIOUS, for instance vs. C-dramaland's costume dramas' fictional-fantasy storylines are simply the basis of everything, from beginning to end, so it's kinda surprisingly disappointing to me, as its international audience, let alone its own Asian audience at large, as to how *badly uneven/disjointed/open-ended* these 3rd-rated scriptwriters/rookie director coulda written/directed what they did here in this drama, esp. for their 10-yr still lackluster *unfinished* undertaking.
BEWARE OF SCREAMING ALOUD: Twas a low budget production, of 10 yrs in the making, that made a sleeper hit for Youku vs their Token #2 was introduced however steathily/sneakily, mistreating its audience's intelligence, like we can't possibly follow their illogical misdirected reasonings/directions at all?! -- perhaps, these 3rd rated hapless scriptwriters are trying to tell us all that it's a BIG FAT EVIL CONSPIRACY going all the way up to the Emperor/Empress/ROYAL MEMBERS OF THE COURT, like they musta gone thru some major brain fart period, aka EP 14 needs a rewatch of that fireworks of a different flavor!! ❤️🔥LOLOL!!❤️🔥
🗡️🔪THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY: I like the coroner/M.E.-minded FL/YCW vs I dislike how the master villain, aka Token #2, stays HIDDEN all the way till the end, like EP 28/29(?!), like these rookie director/SNEAKY scriptwriters, w/ their 10-year-in-the-making, can't direct/write a better SOLUTION/SCRIPT than a bloody cliffhanger, hanging up everyone? Keeping us in the dark stealthily & pulling the plug at the end of the tunnel, like it's BAD form to mistreat your audience's INTELLIGENCE, so I like to think that they failed to see things through properly instead. They can rectify these shortcomings by tying up loose ends w/ a proper S2 is the least that they can do!!🗡️🔪
PERSONAL ENJOYMENT, LESS BRAIN FART! But then again, I came only to watch its main stars, LXY + JJY, so I can take my simple light-hearted enjoyment from them in this drama alone without any further fuss or muss, like I would with *any* USA/British movies/series, esp. since most of us likes to watch our fav actors/actresses anyway, i.e. being the main reason why we watch what we like to watch.
1. Why didn’t they ever show the Emperor? Even at the promotion ceremony at the end (which you would think is…
well, these poor scriptwriters/rookie director rushed out on their low budget production, leaving a poor bad taste in its Asian domestic audience especially involving face-swapping trope being the frontal premise vs big fat serial murders conspiracy with Ripple Token Organization being the backdrop.
I'll re-watch, simply for my own amusement/enjoyment purpose, but not to belabor upon a poor-writing scripts, like when nothing makes sense, along with last-minute hidden surprises, as it's no longer about its 3rd-rated scriptwriters/rookie director.
also, Pan Yue's father clearly favored him over his 2nd son, then why was he so badly tortured/traumatized in some locked up dungeon in his childhood anyway, like did we forget to connect the dots from a poorly disjointed missing-in-action scriptwriting somewhere???
that's right, tx for reminding me of how Token #2 hurts his hand by saving Crown Prince [still rewatching only up to 26 now!], but it still doesn't add up to a whole lot of beans, IMO, cuz there are just still too many unexplained gaping holes everywhere, leaving its international/domestic audiences BLOODY SCREAMING!!
however, I've learned to leave the unexplainable aside on that cutting room floor of the messed up scriptwriters/rookie director, as I, too, blatantly avoid their lack of reasonings and just watching my fav main stars' interactions. I even began to appreciate the fatalistic 2nd couple now, in EP 26, even tho' I don't care for the SFL all that much personally, as she's the WEAKEST female I've ever seen, who can't fight & kept on following SML around like some sick puppy dog, KINDA REVOLTING, but it is what it is, a FATALISTIC SHORT-LIVED ROMANCE.
I'm also annoyed that they killed off the princess. Seems like a quick and easy way to get rid of the marriage.…

1) UNMENTIONED/UNKNOWN: never saw the Emperor(?!). 2) DUNNO: didn't even notice, will have to re-watch, like JJY/YCW was in the crowd staring at Pan Yue. 3) SCHOOL MASTER: that man was the school master where Shen Ci attended-tortured-killed by his wayward son. 4) NOT SURE: I can only surmise that the bad guy safeguarded her was either in love w/ her(?) or knew her previously from their hometown(?), as she was a crucial witness to Pan Yue. 5) BIG, FAT, UNKNOWN CONSPIRACY: I don't believe it's the Crown Prince(?!), like why would he need to smuggle salt illegally for his rising army against his own father/Emperor when he'll inherit the crown anyway(?!), unless it's the UNMENTIONABLE 2nd/3rd prince(?!), like so many gaping hole(s), so little time, eh?! Also, it's not Pan Yue's dad cuz he seems too righteous/timid as being the most rigid/politically correct official.
🗡️🔪 I BELIEVE IN UNVEILING MASTER VILLAIN/TOKEN NO. 2 AT THE LAST MINUTE [EPs 28/29] LIKE THEY DID STEALTHILY TO THE AUDIENCE, BY THOSE SNEAKY SCRIPTWRITERS/ROOKIE DIRECTOR, THIS TELLS ME THAT THEY'RE GONNA INTRODUCE SOME NEWLY UNKNOWN OTHER OFFICIAL(S) AS TOKEN NO. 1, POSSIBLY IN S2, TO SURPRISE US ALL AGAIN, GIVEN HALF THE CHANCE.🗡️🔪
🥰Twas a nice light-hearted entertaining drama series for me, by ignoring all those gaping holes, as a fantastical fiction, esp. after the highly disappointed Judge Dee's mysteries, so I enjoy binging-n-rewatching this drama ad nauseam till something else comes along!!🥰

**SPOILER ALERT: MY 2-CENT TAKE** -------------------------------------------------- 1) they musta ran outa moohla due to its low budget production, like they coulda tie up all loose ends had it gone up to 40 EPs instead of 32; 2) twas a chained-up scene of JJY/YCW walking with the 2 royal guards?! 3) killing off the princess was a setup by its scriptwriters (a) to involve her sister/aka master villain's wife (b) by implicating JJY/YCW, (c) as YCW was (still is) the original killing target (alongside her father, 10 yrs ago), (d) as well as drawing out Pan Yue in the open, designed to implicate him as a poor magistrate to the Empress; 4) Yunchang musta escaped thru the side door of the carriage while the fire was raging on [twasn't shown, like details musta escape poor scriptwriters!]; 5) I believe SML really do care for SFL, but he was infatuated w/ YCW for the longest time, so love for him was distracting, if not a temporary relief from their hookup, so perhaps, in time he'd recognize real love w/ her vs infatuation w/ YCW, but he never got around to that.
💔while I luv the artistry, visual, slow-burn romance, coroner-investigative mysteries, chemistry bet. 1st & 3rd couples [2nd was just too fatalistic!], there are gaping holes to this thriller mystery romance, but nothing is perfect in C-dramaland, so I enjoy this drama series for what it's worth to me personally.💔
🗡️🔪I like the coroner/M.E.-minded FL/YCW vs I dislike how the master villain, aka Token #2, stays HIDDEN all the way till the end, like EP 28/29(?!), like these rookie director/SNEAKY scriptwriters, w/ their 10-year-in-the-making, can't direct/write a better SOLUTION/SCRIPT than a bloody cliffhanger, hanging up everyone? Starting to ep 24 was good but then the romance part got a bit basic. I wanted more!! More longing more romantic…
me 2, ***THE OL' BIG TEASE TRICK***: They coulda gone up to 40 EPs, too rushed/shortened, ending w/ a bloody cliffhanger, like they musta ran outa moohla for its low budget production, leaving us thirsting for more without knowing the ultimate mastermind villain, aka Token #1, getting gypped if S2 doesn't come thru by Youku...
I’m on ep 3 and just want to clarify… the girls have already switched bodies so that the mean one can marry…
**spoiler alert, IN A NUTSHELL, AKA beauty-n-brain = unbeatable combo!!** *********************************************************************************** 1) BACKGROUND/PAST: Bad guys already killed off YCW's father & slashed/scarred her face 10 yrs ago! 2) BACKGROUND/PRESENT: Bad guys now aim to finish killing off YCW/ZHHZ at her wedding to Pan Yue! 3) FACE-SWAPPING1: SZ/JJY desperately switched out her face/body with YCW/ZHHZ in order to marry Pan Yu! 4) FACE-SWAPPING2: However, they killed off SZ/JJY instead!!! ----> [🗡️🔪 🔪 she already face-swapped over in YCW/ZHHZ's body, leaving her own villainous SZ/JJY's body now with YCW's soul! 🗡️🔪 🔪] 5) FACE-SWAPPING3: Dead scarred-face woman, inside the ice coffin, is really the villainous SZ/JJY, who got killed incidentally by bad guys thinking that she's actually YCW!! ----> [🗡️🔪 🔪 not aware of body-swapping face!! 🗡️🔪 🔪] 6) NOW ARMED W/ BEAUTY-N-BRAIN: Taken over in pretty villainous SZ/JJY's body as the only female-coroner YCW, she sets out to find out her killer! 7) NEXT, she suspected Pan Yue to kill her off at 1st, notwithstanding as to why. 8) THEN, Pan Yue also suspected her, as he's now looking at villainous SZ/JJY's face, behaving like his beloved YCW/ZHHZ, facing conumdrum of the heart vs the mind. 9) TOGETHER, as magistrate-coroner CP, they set out to unravel big serial-killings conspiracy ring calls RIPPLE TOKEN ORGANIZATION.
**CONS**: Still confused? Blame the 10-yr-in-the-making poor scriptwriters & its rookie director for its face-swapping/soul-altering trope & upend us with a bloody cliffhanger ending to boot.
**PROS**: 💞💞STAY FOR THE INVESTIGATIVE MYSTERIES/SLOW-BURN ROMANCE/LXY-JJY CP, i.e. it's way better/less fragmented than Judge Dee's mysteries!!💞💞
bailu, zhang jingyi are amazing when it comes to kissing scenes, most of the cdrama actress are bad at kissing…
BLAME THE POOR SCRIPT/ROOKIE DIRECTOR: JJY wasn't too bad here to me at all, like no other opps but that 1 hot kissing scene, so blame the 10-yr-in-the-making scriptwriters/rookie director for its lack of SPICIER kissing scenes, not JJY!
MORE POWERS TO JJY: JJY is not stiff here at all over so many other C-actresses who's wooden & unbankable OR can emote but still unbankable, in a perpetual guest role like that ZHHZ; in fact, JJY can emote just fine to me, being a very likable, BANKABLE MAIN STAR in this drama, so I have to disagree with U on that frontier. She can even act, well beyond her normal range, as the villainous SZ in the beginning as well, KUDOS TO HER!
MORE THAN A PRETTY FACE: Hating on her being pretty is useless for she can also act-sing-dance, aka BEING A TRIPLE BANKABLE THREAT, so great for her that she'll laugh all the way to the bank regardless. GO, JJY, GO!!
NICE MAIN LEADS' CHEMISTRY: Besides, I like her chemistry with LXY just fine-n-dandy, making this a great sleeper hit out of a low budget production overall, a win-win drama to binge on.
NICE BINGING DRAMA: Twas a SLOWBURN ROMANCE with investigative murder-conspiracy mysteries, but if U expect spicier kissing scenes, IB ain't it for U.
RECOMMENDATION FOR U: SHENLI w/b a better *non-JJY" watch for U especially, as it's spicier with a full-blown makeout session with its 2 main leads over there.
💗💗Lastly, for me, it's a female-centric story of YCW/JJY, being the only female coroner, aka female M.E. [= med examiner, from Patricia Cornwell's books], faring well (from scarred-familial tragedy to beauty inside/out) beyond its male-centric storyline of its 2 male leads, devoted/smart magistrate & hapless/fated young master of Silver Rain, respectively.💗💗

For me anyway, the master villain, aka Token #2 didn't show up till EPs 28/29, not too draggy at all, but whenever it comes to S2, it's totally UNPREDICTABLE in C-dramaland, like if U expect it to happen, it won't vs. when U least expect it, it happens...
Omg what's up with the ending?? Did I miss out on anybody who could be the number 1?! Like I watch all EP and…
yup, the work of poor scriptwriters, only took10 yrs to come to fruition, alongside a rookie director whose hidden intentions to keep his audience engaged till the bitter end, like it's up to Youku's profit margin to tie up loose ends, aka bloody cliffhanger, for a possible S2, since this was a major sleeper hit off of a low budget production to boot in early 2024.
I have quite liked JJY, ever since she was excellent in Legend of Yunxi. But her kissing scenes >~< *cries*.Actually…
PERSONAL MORAL CODES? Funny U brought up these C-actresses' *passionless/half-hearted* kissing scenes, like it's some kind of *repressive inside-trader* moral code that they'd be kissing *close-mouthed* on cameras, except a few A-listers like Fan Bingbing/Yang Mi/Bai Lu I find to be better at kissing on screen; however, JJY isn't too bad with ZZH in Yunzi/Blooms of Ruyi Pavillion, for instance. Maybe it's how *COMFORTABLE* they'd be with a certain male costars?!
KISSING CLOSE-MOUTHED ISN'T NORMAL! On the other hand, most, if not all, C-actors can really really kiss, like *ALL* their kissing performances are simply superb & *NORMAL*, not half-hearted close-mouthed like their female counterparts. It's almost like JJY doesn't date or that she, like so many others, don't care to *OPEN* their mouths at kissing scenes, perhaps stated/written in their contract or something, who knows?!
LOLOL: No kissing academic acting classes available for these C-actresses, like even their hapless quick pecks would land awkwardly on the side of the actors' lips purposefully.
NATURE OF THE KISSING/OVER-DUBBING BEASTS: Kinda like repressive kissing under duress for these C-actresses or over-dubbing by any means necessary, like acting in C-dramaland is *NOT* by any award-winning stretch, as we all know that they're merely acting, for we can only gauge/digest from what little we do see (or not!).
NOT TOO BAD: Granted there weren't too many kissing scenes here, but 1 major kissing scene where it wasn't too bad, like she did alright in keeping up with the sexy, handsome, alluring, elegant, dimpled LXY, like who wouldn't? LOLOL.
MAD REVIEW IS IN FOR SHENLI, FYI: For once, I agree wholeheartedly with AvenueX’s critique on SHENLI, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOPhs3SXkpI&ab_channel=AvenueX…
Have complete faith that we will, as he looks very busy on his personal MDL page.
Kill Me, Love Me looks like a killer drama, note the word "Kill" in the title, may not be a happy ending.
I personally ship this JJY-LXY CP a lot, and wouldn't mind seeing them in some modern romance drama, even tho' I like her as-is "typecast" in perpetuity in costume dramas, but I'd make an exception for such an outing bet. these two in the nearest future, should it ever happen!
Anyhoo, he's just a puuurfect leading man, elevating his leading female co-stars.
His Pan Yue character is neither impatient nor disloyal to his YCW, from start to finish, searching for her endlessly for 10 yrs, being deeply in love with her inside/out, as he was finally blessed/rewarded a reunion with the same YCW in a remarkable face-swapping change of fate.
