also, suspicious killing thoughts kinda KILL OFF any romance before it starts anyway; moreover, ML did NOT like/care for the (villainous) main FL, from the start, rememba now?

He only had eyes for his beloved sweetheart, aka the guest-FL with the scar on her face in the 1st 1.5 EPs.

He also guilted himself out for even noticing the main FL, after guest-FL's early demise occurring within the 1st 1.5 EPs, so chances of his ROMANCING her is next to nil due to suspicion especially.

hey, I just thought of something, like that Silver Terrace Sect = CULT, that SML's father = CULT LEADER, so it's hard for him to be a GOOD guy, after being part of a cult that kills/offs people for x-number of years.

also, I think HIGHLY of that Xu Tao actor, playing twins, SHEN CI/SHEN YAN, like he got a nice face, must be young, he's got 2 Series/Movie coming up as main lead that I'll try to catch once it's release this year. Waddya think of him?

the rating went down now to 8.2, like seriously?!

I sure hope U like it till the very end....

if not, at least from a coroner standpoint, it's pretty interesting.

also, lots of viewers prefer the 2nd couple. [they're unnecessarily kinda hung up on the guest-FL in the 1st 1.5 EPs!!]

THUMBS UP/DON'T BLAME THE SPOILER: I've been bashed down as a spoiler before, like whoever would read comments 1st before they'd finish watching the next episode(s), D'OH, like why would U do that?! SMH.

KEEP WATCHING, like it ain't too damn bad, but rather good, surprisingly...

**psst: U may need a re-watch, like I'm doing, cuz the answer(s) we seek are there somewhere.

ML NEEDS MAJOR THERAPY FOR HIS INNER TURMOIL!!-->πŸ₯°yes, everytime he addresses her, by looking deeply into her eyes, he felt COMPELLED, and he doesn't know why, like a DEJA VU of someone he used to know, but NO, IT JUST CAN'T BE, like I must be goin' mad, as he exclaims in his dreams....

ALAS, HE GOT HER ON HIS BRAINS WAY BEFORE HIS SUSPICIONS ARE CONFIRMED!!!πŸ₯°

SLOW BURN ROMANCE, artistically done, amidst many unsolved crimes that they'd be solving together, as a team, i.e. him/magistrate & her/coroner.

EP 17 is when his suspicion is finally confirmed that she's really who he thought she was/is...
EP 21 is when love, IN BLOSSOM, finally took its rightful place...

DATING GAME: Love is only recognized after suspicions are allayed, i.e. trust has to establish, as patience to finding out who the REAL culprits/villains are behind the scenes, in the way of their budding/impending romance to be acclimated/confirmed.

That's million dollar question 😁Depends on who you ask. Die hard fans would say yes, antis would say no.I'm…
CHINA = CANCEL CULTURE OF MEANIES = NOT OF GOODWILL!!-->I'm from USA, i.e. the Asian/English-as-2nd-language threads [bad grammar/wrong spelling] on this website-platform are very disturbing [and LAUGHABLE!] to say the very least, as there are lots of crazy, asinine fanfare, hateful trolls, etc. [EVEN ON CHINA'S SOCIAL PLATFORMS AS A NORM TO MISBEHAVE SO WAYWARDLY/OUTRAGEOUSLY, i.e. NO SHAME TO THEIR ENDLESS SELF-PROMOTING/BASHING GAME!].
πŸ”ͺ πŸ”ͺπŸ—‘οΈEverything U'd abhor/detest, from C-dramaland wars, in rearing its ultra UGLY heads of harsh/bitter reality of overhyped evil jealousies/envies/verbal attacks, etc. [SIMILAR TO STREET BRAWLS!]
πŸ—‘οΈπŸ”ͺπŸ—‘οΈLike they're originating from Republic of China, for Pete's sake, in their non-democratic hostility of over-spewing/over-hyping to practically nonsense & childishly immature behavior, tantamount to throwing temper tantrums of idol-bashing/body-shaming/reputation-slamming of both its main leads (JJY/LXY) here, bordering on the utterly ridiculous ironies/shameful baloney of the weirdest smarmiest hypocritical kind (just cuz JJY can act/sing/dance, aka Triple Threat, like JLo).
πŸ—‘οΈπŸ”ͺπŸ—‘οΈThey'd say JJY is so good as the villainess in 1st 2 EPs, so she should take a turn to act as one from now on; notwithstanding that if she can play a villainous role so well here [much like (Oscar-winning) Denzel Washington in TRAINING DAY]. So, this would mean she can really actually act [aka ACTING RANGE!], right?! How utterly ignorant & ironic to bash JJY here, while maintaining how great she was at acting as a villainess, like it's either or, wayward folks, but NOT both, m'kaay?!
πŸ—‘οΈπŸ”ͺπŸ—‘οΈTheir holier-than-thou uptight uppity PETTY/NEGATIVE/DEROGATORY attitude really sucks badly, like their lives must be so puuurfectly flawless somehow [NOT!!]. They act so miserly, as they must be terribly unhappy in their own miseries and/or having way too much time on their hands.
πŸ’–πŸ’–However, every once in a while, a certain mystery romance drama like this just grabs your attention; albeit, its upended cliffhanger really SUCKS, but alas, perhaps the 10-yr script isn't hopefully WASTED, if we can get a S2, from this sleeper hit made good from a rookie director & its low budget production for Youku.

That's just it:

IB has better ROMANCE/CHEMISTRY with its 2 main leads than BIA, aka A MYSTERY ROMANCE DRAMA, like that other one [IBA] is ULTRA-BORING, for its lack of both romance + chemistry. [see below from greenblood_spock!]

1) FYI: It's NOT "beauty in adversity", but "blossom in adversity"???
2) FYI: Bad review already over there, i.e. lack of romance/chemistry bet. their 2 main leads. [WHERE'S THE CHEMISTRY/ROMANCE? OOPS, NOT IN THE STORYLINE... NEXT!]
3) GOOD FOR U: We like it just fine here w/ IB, so no need to recommend/convince anyone that BIA's far better [*seriously not!*], esp. since it's to each its own/different strokes for different folks.
4) FYI: I don't happen to think that their ML is remotely better looking than/as handsome as LXY, cuz he looks gangly [very tall!] & goofy to me overall. [WHERE'S THE CHEMISTRY/ROMANCE? OOPS, NOT IN THE STORYLINE... NEXT!]
5) FYI: I saw that their FL over there in another drama before, and NOT that impressed with either her looks/acting. [WHERE'S THE CHEMISTRY/ROMANCE? OOPS, NOT IN THE STORYLINE... NEXT!]
6) FYI: JJY is NOT just a singer/dancer, like she's been acting since 2015. Her acting has been getting better-n-better, as she's probably getting better scripts, and like eliteles1, we think JJY is enjoyable to watch esp. w/ LXY as ML, i.e. as I'm re-watching EP 21 over-n-over, ad nauseam, like if only S2 can be shooting in the works, then it couldn't be even more sublime anticipation....
7) These forgettable/god-forsaken trolls are smoking some stinky/smelly stuff off their dysfunctional loudmouth pipes, calling this an idol drama, like I could say the same thing about SHENLI, esp. its 2 main leads are way too old for the roles, as they rec'd total blur-out treatment, talk about UN-ADOLIZING/AGING skin-smoothing into freaking oblivion/fuzzy erasure altogether, so much from having their faces on camera being "photoshopped" away, however their subpar, lackluster performances remain.

Dunno, like billion viewers can't be all bad or wrong, like even hateful, jealous idol-bashing trolls of JJY can't dispute that extraordinary record-breaking fact.

SML's father-n-son story is NOT compelling to me, as his father was too single-mindedly unrelenting, like why protect your son against such evil villain that once he's gone, the superficial protective veil is broken anyway, like why couldn't he redeem himself for once by helping out his son with the identity of the villain so we wouldn't have to endure the impending torture/death of SML?

That seems to be a gaping hole of logic in that particular storyline, but it doesn't take away the slow burn mystery romance of this drama, the good v the bad.
(We can't possibly enter the frustrating minds of a 10-yr-in-the-making of this drama by the hapless scriptwriters, still torturing us with an open-ended cliffhanger for a possible S2.)

REDEEMING: yea, Pan Yue's father was showing him tough love, but at least, he was supportive at the end when it matters most, even as his illegitimate son(?) vs. UNRELENTING: SML's father being absentee, fugitive and not very supportive to his own son.

How ironically different both fathers are behaving.

SINS OF THE MISLED FATHER: SML's father got misplaced hidden loyalty to his brother-in-arms villain, like why? It's admirable how he protected him/his son, albeit unsuccessfully in the end. Like there must be an underlying reason for that misplaced loyalty, aka unknown subhuman killers from Silver Rain Terrace code, like belonging to/protecting such an evil sect essentially means an evil lifer code of livelihood/ behavior, even after he was brutally attacked/left burned alive/living like a crippled fugitive by senselessly continuing taking orders from the master villain. Sadly, he's still a polarizing absentee father figure in hiding, not tending to his son daily, as if protecting him from the villain was merely enough, aka unsalvageable/unconscionable bad guy/father who can't seem to do the right thing even at the very end.πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

U're dead-to-rights, like they're missing out on things they'll never get to appreciate/enjoy, but then who cares/gives/knows what UNHEALTHY haters/trolls think/spew anyway... Appreciating the beauty of this slow burn sleeper hit drama means to enjoy it, LIKE MILLIONS DID [or is it billions now?! LOL]

LOST IN PERSPECTIVE: They hate it for whatever personal reason(s) -- Why bother with their constant annoying comments, which are NOTHING but big fat waste of time anyway. UGH/SMH: I just skim over, roll my eyes, forget about it OR I'd block em out so I don't have to see/read about em ad nauseam.

Haters will hate, i.e. sad, if not pathetic, human trait called JEALOUSY, appearing to mask their envy/inferiority complex for (temporary) trolling at its worst, like they need to spout/spew the green-eye monster off their rotten chests, but so what??

Doesn't matter much cuz JJY can act, sing & dance, aka triple threat like JLo, so she can continue to laugh ALL the way to the bank, as haters/trollers can hate ALL they want in their sad, little crying corners.
