In ep 17, I really liked how thet made ZL very human faced with a moral dilemma, making a mistake and suffering for it. It was a very painful growth with ZL losing so much. It also paved a way for new realizations, that he is now in a position where he can choose to be someone who can protect not just himself and his loved ones but also all those who are just like him, born low, easily trampled on, dispensable.
Ep 18: 4th rank ZL is 🤯. The transition from ZL in episode 17, the grieving soldier, to this ZL with such presence and murderous aura is amazing. And despite that, he's still soft for his FTY, still giving her fireworks for her birthday. I loled at A'sen's disappointed face upon seeing him. And dang! A'sen is suddenly all grown up!
Episode 17 has really brought some wonderful acting from the cast! Enxi was wonderful in that FTY and YJX (Mr. Shameless) scene. DYX! I particularly loved that scene between ZL and Commander Wang. The shift from grief to anger to gratitude to detemination, it was all beautiful. And color me surprised by Commander Wang! I didn't expect that from him at all. 👏👏👏
And Yucheng... 😭😭😭 That was so shocking and painful I was sobbing. 😭😭😭😭

FTY would have had a different outcome in the Yu household. Firstly, Mrs. Yu liked her and respected her intelligence and resourcefulness. Mrs. Yu has nothing but disdain for FYK. Second, FTY would more likely be able to help YJX in his path as she has better knowledge and adaptability in navigating the social circles. Unlike FYK who was shown to lack such skills by her choice in gifts for the matrons and poor judgment in presenting gifted food during gatherings. Also, YJX may have eventually developed affection for her once she sees how FTY values knowledge and history as much as he does, unlike FYK who treated her father's precious books as nothing more than a source of money.

This was filmed Jan - April 2024. DYX finished filming earlier than the rest of the cast (late March 2024) and then immediately started filming Fight for Love for roughly 4 months. By July - August 2024, this was already slated for an August release and there were already some promotional materials. He really did not have the time to do the dubbing himself.
