Nah man. That ending wasn't it. I know some people want to read into that ambiguous hinting, the seventh day of the seventh month, but there's no guarantee that wasn't just a painful coincidence for him. His reaction didn't seem hopeful, just sad. Then the after credits shot was just pointless. I kept expecting more. I think in the final episode the show forgot it was a BL. It focused way more on het characters and their happy ending, etc. I just think after all that, it has no rewatch value. I actually was enjoying the schlocky, b-movie action stuff. It was a fun series. But the ending was such a let down. They literally don't even interact in the final episode.
Does anyone know the instagram of the actress who plays the prostitute (A16) turned nail technician? I'm guessing she doesn't appear much (or maybe again, after episode 3?) but I liked her so far, and she's not listed on MDL.
Oh my god, I'm so excited to see Lee Ki Taek in this. I loved him and had lots of feelings about him in The Devil Judge, ugh. I didn't know who he was when this was first announced, but I really need this to actually come out.
Damn i was hoping for prem and wad’s relationship to bloom but it never did. 🥹
Honestly, the way it ended I have to wonder if something happened behind the scenes. Their arc seemed to very clearly lean toward them as a secondary couple, then all of a sudden Wad pretty much just vanished from the show. I wonder if something happened with Fluke that prevented them from doing the full storyline.
I highly doubt they're removing them. I haven't seen a single official thing hinting at it, just a lot of fans…
Yeah, I haven't liked how many kiddos have tried to make it all about their BL pairing. That isn't what the show is about. To be fair, shared pairings in the spotlight are pretty common in anything that isn't straight. I do feel bad for people who haven't experienced this with BL and are only having this happen for the first time, because it's frustrating. Even now, BL will have random het couples taking up a bunch of time, like who is this here for? As someone who likes both BL and GL, I like having a BL side, but I do understand that feeling of disappointment when there aren't as many options.
Is this actually going to be R-rated or not really since it’s on GMMTV YouTube? I saw someone saying it was…
The same people involved did The Warp Effect, which was the most graphic thing GMMTV has ever produced. So here's hoping they'll bring some of that spice to Only Friends.
Heard g4 isn’t in there anymore and being switch out with another w|w couple, lemme removed it from my list…
I highly doubt they're removing them. I haven't seen a single official thing hinting at it, just a lot of fans jumping to conclusions. They may have heard the fan backlash about the lack of a secondary GL ship and added in new characters. Or maybe they had intended to all along, as I read that there are three GL pairings in the novel. A second f/f couple would be great. It doesn't mean Gemini and Fourth will be written out. Don't believe all the stuff you read on twitter. Wait for GMMTV to say something before you get upset. They're in the business of making money. It's very unlikely they'd remove a popular ship like GeminiFourth after hyping people up about them being included.
Not every series needs a 12 episode run to tell it's story. Telling a compelling and satisfying story is completely…
I agree, though I do find it odd that several of their supernatural shows are much shorter, while a show about a girl who has two different guys who like her has 18 episodes. Slice of life rarely needs to be that long. But I guess we can just view the shorter stuff as an extended movie and hope for the best.
After their chemistry in The Warp Effect, I really wanted to see Fah and Gigie in a GL together. I think they'd be amazing. I was so sad to hear Gigie left GMMTV though. Now the low chance of that happening is pretty much nil. Still, I hope we see her in some good stuff in the future.
I dunno, at least in the pilot trailer she does seem to be a large source of conflict between them. I can't stand…
Seriously! That's the thing a lot of the people who like to toss around the word "fetish" fail to see. Is BL realistic as a rule? No. Is romance in general realistic as a rule? NO. It's reflective of the genre, and it's heavily case by case. It's like, just because Twilight was an unhealthy m/f romance, does that mean literally anything that has het romance in it is unhealthy and kinky? (Not that the romance industry in general doesn't get its share of hate, given it's a form of media geared toward women and thus must be mocked and scrutinized.)
The genre wars thing makes it even worse and especially pretentious, like people who differentiate between "film" and "movie," lol. Like I get that it's a semantics thing, but it causes confusion and strengthens negative voices when some people insist BL only refers to the pure fluff and the smut, and others use it as a catch all term. I've been a fan of m/m media since BL was the term used for sex-free gay comics. The definition has definitely evolved. I use it as a catch all for Asian media with gay romance in it, but I know some people like to draw a distinction and call the more adult, polished, or complicated/action-packed stuff LGBT rather than BL, but I think that muddies the issue. (Anyway, that's another issue, and I could honestly write a few books worth on these topics, haha.)
Yes, it's been great talking to you! I added you as a friend, not that that really does much on MDL. Or maybe it does, I still haven't gotten used to checking in on feeds, so I have no idea. XD
Oh man, if you're a GramBlack shipper, this is gonna really piss you off, but they're actually end game in the novel. Both twins are bisexual in the novel, and I don't know if Gram was gay or bi. The show took a lot of liberties, and I'm honestly not angry that they didn't make GramBlack a thing, but it was like they crapped all over it too, making them fight over a girl and acting cold toward each other in the end. They made Eugene, who was an awesome character on her own, seem uncomfortable with Gram the whole time, which was SO weird, like why didn't they at least make her seem like she was into him too if they were gonna get together? He ended up seeming so predatory, opportunistic, and manipulative. And the fact that they played with the people who read the novel and knew Gram loves Black, then used that reveal (the note White finds) to trick the audience... It was so strange. Like no one in this audience is going to be pleasantly surprised that you mislead them and forced in a het pairing. I honestly would have been okay with GramEugene if Gram had been in love with Black too. Two friends helping one another heal over the jerk who broke their hearts, and along the way they fall in love? Yes please. I don't like most m/f, but I'd love to see a bisexual guy end up with a woman in a satisfying way like that. But nope, just two straight bros fighting over a girl that neither of them deserves. Eugene needed a better ending.
Anyway, sorry if any of this is incoherent. I'm sleep deprived. But seriously, I just wish we could get some more respect as fans. It's harder as international fans too, because our voices aren't as directly impactful. But there have been some positive changes in the industry in a relatively short amount of time. Maybe there's hope. I have my fingers crossed, at least.
I dunno, at least in the pilot trailer she does seem to be a large source of conflict between them. I can't stand…
Right? And even Not Me inexplicably straight-washed half the cast and shoved in a creepy, het, Nice Guy(tm) couple. I still can't believe they took a canon M/M couple and not only had one of them get with a girl, they had the couple FIGHT over her. It was so surreal, like who was that for?
Unfortunately, BL fans are quick to apologize for liking BL, and companies fully expect us to just be grateful for whatever, because we're not the target audience that they truly care about. This is a topic that I've written many rants on, because it's a complicated and frustrating issue with many facets. See, they're happy to take our money, but god forbid they acknowledge us as discerning viewers. Just have the guys take their shirts off, that's good enough. Why do they need a plot?
This is why we have to be firm on resisting things that treat us as unimportant chumps. They have to learn that we won't just tolerate it. These companies benefit from our views and dollars, while casting us aside for their more favored demographic. They can't have their cake and eat it too. Like this high school body swap that's coming up in Korea, where they took a novel about a kid who's bullied for being gay and ends up committing suicide, and while totally missing the irony, decided to remove the gay elements and romance for their adaptation. They expect BL fans to just watch and tolerate it, and I really hope Korean fans boycott that crap. International viewers don't make as much of a difference, sadly. (Oh, whoops! I wrote all that before reading the rest of your comment, lol. But yep, that's the one. I have to actively pretend that thing doesn't exist so I'm not filled with rage all over again. Korea has a long way to go with their rampant homophobia, and it really bums me out).
In the US, queer viewers and women in general are still very much second class citizens when it comes to media. I've been watching eastern stuff so much primarily because they actually acknowledge this other demographic, but it's times like this that remind me that the rules are generally the same everywhere. The fun stuff is made for straight men, and everyone else is allowed to come along and watch it as long as they understand who it's really for. We have a long way to go, and all I can do is keep hoping it starts to change. But when there has to be a female reward in EVERY damn thing, it feels like a long, uphill battle ahead of us. x_x
I dunno, at least in the pilot trailer she does seem to be a large source of conflict between them. I can't stand…
Gurl, don't get me started. It pains me to see so many exciting, gritty shows and ALL of them are het. They're almost never gen even, like only people who like mf stuff get all of these awesome action stories. I would probably be able to tolerate the oversaturation of het if even 5% of these polished thrillers and such were gay. Instead we get like ten action BL total, most of which are super low quality or fall victim to BL limitations (like Korea's notoriously short BL runtimes).
I dunno, at least in the pilot trailer she does seem to be a large source of conflict between them. I can't stand…
I forgave what little romance they included in The Gifted because I loved that the main character was focused entirely on friendship, so I'm with you there! It does suck that so many shows cannot just let men and women be friends. :(
That's why I emphasized that I meant the pilot version, because I'm hoping miraculously that this will change. At the same time, I'm not so sure. The official trailer made it seem much better than the pilot, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up and give it a shot, only for it to be exactly what I expect.
I hope you're right and they take out the love triangle element all together. But if they don't and it's the usual romance stuff, I just won't watch it. I'm actually glad they included what they did in the pilot so I didn't risk watching this and end up stumbling into that crap. But for your sake and the sake of other people who want to see actual content and not forced het and female-reward characters, I hope it keeps that stuff to a minimum! See you in a few months when I check back to see how it went. XD
