i am currently watching and i am loving the characters and the plot. kinda sad its ending next week !
Have you been watching since the beginning? I'm also a bit sad that it's ending, but everything great has to end in a good way. If they dragged it even longer, it might not be that great anymore.

I'll try to answer short, but there are obviously usually longer explanations to your questions. And I'm not gonna answer the questions others already have done so splendidly.

1. Why are Chinese historical dramas so long?
For the producers to get the maximum profit that they can get. They get paid for each episode, and that's why they like to drag things out.

3. Why do Chinese historical dramas have problematic families?
Firstly, because it makes the drama more interesting to watch- if everyone was friends with one another, then there wouldn't be all these misunderstandings and fights. Secondly, in historical dramas the emperor usually have many concubines, meaning that the emperor could have maaaaaaaany sons and daughter, which you (and I) quite frankly don't want to have a proper introduction of. It would drag everything out even more Also, it's just a Chinese drama thing that you have to get used to. They like to throw you in to the middle of the story, so that you, on your own, slowly figures everything out.

5. His title is automatically a prince or am I wrong? Can you give me an exact chart of how the titles go?
I'm also watching I will never let you go, witch is amazing by the way! I cannot give you an exact chart, but I can explain what you asked about, concerning Chen Yu. Yes he is a prince, even when he was Heir Apparent. Heir Apparent, means that he will success his father when Seventh Prince dies. When his father dies, then he simply becomes Prince of Dongjin. His father the Seventh Prince is the brother of the emperor. The Emperor had also a number when he was to success his father (he didn't have to be the first born). I hoped it helped a little.

6. How do I know if it’s an item, city or a human if I've never heard the term before?
Continuing in the spirit of I will never let you go, you simply have to follow the drama. I'm also confused, even though I've watched plenty of Chinese dramas. But you can think about the way they talk about Biluotian. They need to have items to get to Biluotian, and they have to have the enchantress/sacrifice in form of a person (Hua Buqi) to get the treasure to rule the world. It gets easier to get the whole picture the more you watch Chinese dramas. I promise

8. Are there any dramas that match my description? Also, why are dramas filled with so much negativity? Yes, there are. If you, or anyone, else would want a list of Chinese romance dramas, then write a message. If no one is interested, then I wouldn't want to use loads of time on it here. A tip from a Chinese drama binge-watcher, skip some of the extra couples. Usually Chinese dramas, especially wuxi and historical with 60 + episodes, they usually have a main couple and a supporting couple. If i'm not interested in the supporting couple, or they get more screentime than the lead, then just skip their parts. Then the drama becomes shorter, and you don't feel as if you miss anything.

9. Do you understand the Chinese idioms? I myself aren't Chinese. Though, I am trying to learn Chinese, my language level is limited. That's why i also have english subtitles on. The Chinese language itself has a lot of idioms, which means something in real life. And then there are these OLD idioms that are a bit harder to understand, because they aren't used as frequently. My suggestion, is to watch on viki. They usually explains the idioms in the subtitles. Sometimes I understand and sometimes I don't.

I sometimes binge-watch Chinese historical dramas with 50-60 episodes in 3 to 4 days..
At last I find another person who does this! We're family haha! ^^

Ashes of Love is one of the best dramas this year - period! However, I wish that some of the other dramas also get a legit chance. I've watched all of these nominations except one or two of them, and in my opinion Ashes of Love should not win all of the nomination categories. It sadly always becomes clear which dramas the audience in here watch, and which they don't.

I looove scarlet heart! That was my first Chinese drama, and nowadays I only rarely watch korean dramas. The Chinese and Taiwanese dramas are just so damn good and well made! And I know, half-bald guys aren't that hot but when you have watched several dramas from that time period you start to enjoy that look. At least I do :D

Oh my god! This is now one of my favorite dramas out there! Even though I've only watched the 6 episodes that are subbed, this really took me by surprise. First I stopped after 5 min, and thought "what the fuck is this shit!" It was so weird! But after giving it another try I would definitely recommend this! I've been unable to skip any parts of these episodes, though I usually tend to skip a lot in longer dramas. However this far, haven't there been any "fillers".

The characters are also amazing, and well played too! In this drama there isn't the cliché whiny female character, she has many sides to her! The only thing is the hairstyle ;). Either you like it or not. I find it refreshing and very artistic. And the guys, oh boy! Lots of eyecandy! Another thing is the "bad guys" they play it sooooo well. With many dimensions to them. At first you feel resentment and at other points you feel devastated because of their background! It's so well made!

Another thing I reaaaalllly liked about this is that the roles are reversed! It's the princess who has a lot of, what I call them, manly concubines. This is a whole new concept, which I've never seen in any asian drama before! This also makes the drama very amusing to watch!

I could tell so much more, but I would rather let you guys experience this master piece four yourself! I truly hope you would give this a try, even though it has 52 episodes. The first 2 episodes will give you a hint wether you will like it or not! If you watch from now, you only have to watch the 7 episodes out there + one episode per day. I hope you find this helpful!

And I genuinely hope that they won't ruin this plot and their characters
