I can't believe this was actually done by the same Mitani Koki who wrote masterpieces as "Furuhata Ninzaburo", "The Uchoten Hotel" and "The Magic Hour"! This..."thing" is absolutely *terrible*, URGH...>_____<
Thank you, pun pash. ;P You know I'm not holding that against you. ;) "some "10s" were most probably linked to…
Thanks again for that YT channel! (I had already found it yesterday by reading one of your comments to this very same article, and it's totally golden! ^___^) (in that particular video you linked I really loved the piece where she's commenting on an actor's too small improvement regarding his poor acting and she says he's gone from "stony" to "wooden", from "mineral" to "plant"...ROFL!!! I can totally apply that comment to some of my least favorite actors&actresses, LOL!)
Great article, congrats moodchild! ^________^ (I'm sorry, I know it's a lousy pun, but I couldn't resist! Verzeih mir ^_^;;;;...) As for me, I confess that the cast plays a bigger role (which makes me watch stuff I know beforehand I'll regret watching, LOL), followed right away by the story (if still in doubt, I'll usually check if I know the screenwriter(s) and if I've already liked some of their works)...genres and tags, as well as titles and covers, are mostly only relevant for me in a negative way (as in, there are a few things I tend to avoid)...otherwise, as you so aptly wrote, it's mostly a matter of mood ...^__- (Which, incidentally, comes useful to point out something I always admit: that all my votes and reviews are to be intended as purely subjective and very depending on the particular moment when I've watched that particular drama/movie...some "10s" were most probably linked to the fact that I was in the mood for something like that so I really appreciated it...were I to rewatch some of those now, my votes might be different though ^__^) Ratings, but also suggestions, are a gray area...sometimes they can be gold (particularly the latter, when they come from like-minded people! ^___-), sometimes they can be totally misleading (especially the former, when they come from "groupies" of this or that actor/actress, or from people who maybe comment writing something like "BEST FRACKIN' DRAMA I'VE EVER WATCHED!!!" but then you check and they've watched, like, 5 dramas altogether, LOL) p.s. Still ROFLing about the almost identical covers! ^__________^
As promised in my review, here's a coupla more things...^__^ First, the plot holes: 1) the subplot with the evil brother and his corporate bimbo was left hanging (honestly, I wouldn't mind if they'd gotten rid of it altogether, as it didn't bring anything to the story and those two were really annoying) 2) the situation with Wenqi and the royal bethrothal was kinda solved behind the scenes...they flee, and after a few episodes they invite Wenqi as if nothing had happened...a bit weird...>__< Secondly, the minor changes I would've made to the ending: I think Wenguang would've been a much better suit for Baizhu (c'mon, those two were perfect for each other, LOL!) and that would have left us with another perfect pair: Wenqi and Xiaoli ^___^
She's absolutely great both in "Waiting For You In The Future" and in "My Assassin Girlfriend"! ^___^ How comes her filmography is so short? /.___.\ I really hope to see her soon in some new drama!
I wish they'd subbed also the ending credits couch scenes...anyway, this is my interpretation of the ending: please note that the bakery (actually, "Boulangerie", so as to contribute to that "Amélie" feeling I wrote about in my review ^__-) is called "RENCONTRER" which is French for "to meet again", and it's btw "Est. 1985"...now, ask yourself what überfamous time-related movie is from 1985...oh, yeah: "Back to the Future"! So, they actually meet again in the future, she's been waiting for him (and more so the other way around, actually!), and the weird reaction she has is just because she remembered well his line "when we meet again, don't hit me" and decided to play a joke on him, so as to show him that she hasn't changed a bit and is still the same "old" self (faults included!) he's fallen in love with...^__-
Thanks for the review. It made me watch it and I'm happy with it!But I don't get what your problem with the ending,…
Hi faarian, I didn't like how they kinda switched genres (from romance to silly comedy) in the last minutes; had I written the script, I wouldn't have put that silly nude scene plus the fall (which reminded me of Kitano's "Getting Any?" aka "Minna Yatteru ka" with its absurd ending), and would have kept it romantic instead...^___^;
If you're interested in the true story which inspired this (imho, poorly done) movie, be sure to watch the NHK World documentary "The Phone of the Wind" - it's easily found on youtube ^___-
Fukuhara Haruka is adorable, the scenery nice (does anybody know where this has been filmed, BTW?) and there are a few good scenes here and there. It's so cheesy it could have been made in Wisconsin, though...^_^;
I'm so disgusted I can't even bother to write a proper review, I'll quote "Fantozzi" instead (this is one of the most famous scenes in Italian cinema, LOL - he basically says "TO ME, THAT'S A LOAD OF CR@P!") https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylWHvrCtczk
Yep. Among the many things I'd like to do if I could ever use a time machine to go back in time, there's also…
Haha don't be so drastic, there are plenty of good movies from France after all! ^___^; For example, I think they're very good at hilarious comedies, from the old ones with Louis de Funès ("Oscar", "Hibernatus", "L'Aile ou la Cuisse") or Jean Paul Belmondo ("Tendre Voyou", "L'Incorrigible") to the more recent ones (masterpieces like "Le Dîner de Cons", "Bienvenue Chez les Ch'tis" and "OSS117 - Le Caire, Nid d'Espions"). Try any of those (I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find English subs for them) and you'll see for yourself! ^___-

Yeah, I was referring to the 60s French "new wave" that such a nefarious influence has had ever since on many scriptwriters&directors (generations after generations of people who mistakenly think that showing actors spewing nonsense and doing weird stuff make for a good movie...it doesn't, guys! A well-crafted script, brilliant dialogues and respect for the audience make good movies! - All imho of course, if other MDLers here think that "A bout de souffle" is the best movie ever, don't take it personally guys, let's just agree to disagree, LOL ^__^;...)
Actors were good, especially considering what they had to work with; but I think the scriptwriters and director…
Yep. Among the many things I'd like to do if I could ever use a time machine to go back in time, there's also this one: MAKE SURE THAT "NOUVELLE VAGUE" DOESN'T HAPPEN. LIKE, EVER. ^__-
