I envy the folks who will be able to watch this and form their own opinions without this discourse influencing…
This is an excellent point.

People are forced to conform to peer pressure and public sentiment in order to survive and not be branded social pariahs.

Sometimes this even means people conform to what happens to simply be the most vociferous noisy part of the crowd and not the actual majority because people are masters at guilt tripping and shaming others into following their own line of thinking.

I despise that heavily.

Whether it is a cheap drama, a terrible drama, a fantastic drama, an intricately written drama, an abysmally written drama, a boring or “mid” (I dislike this term too. It’s like throwing the term average as an insult when most people are in fact just average and it’s not a crime to not be either spectacularly good or bad and neither is it a crime to enjoy something that isn’t spectacular in some way).

Whatever it is, if you enjoyed it, you enjoyed it. If you didn’t, you didn’t. End of story.

And here I just got done complimenting lo_ve for her previous serious article……..

How is this sillier than the trash dating gossips this writer has posted before?

I think I am also dating Soo Hyun and Ji Won because I took a selfie in a black shirt the other day. Threesome anyone ?

Disclaimer: I clicked on this article by mistake, just seeing it’s about Queen of Tears, not reading the title

I think they only payed a part of the "fees". 65k for all cast members sounds a measly sum for a month of filming…
65k for about 34 or 48 (I’m sorry can someone kindly do the math? My brain is short circuiting today) cast only members right?

119 cast (not including how much the crew is owed as this article doesn’t specify) in total between both drama projects.

If we assume that the bigger casts have already been paid and it’s just the poor extras and bit roles, who’d be paid for varying work hours, the pending amount could plausibly be around minimum wage.

Somehow this puts into perspective their release of the statement that they are removing BL content because it is not as profitable.

Wonder if this affects any principal or supporting casts or just the poorer unnamed cast and crew that don’t have a good agency speaking up for them and need the money more desperately.

These industries are toxic work places, where everyone’s afraid of speaking up for their rights nor protect anyone else.

I’m glad the union is planning to take action. I’d like an update for when this does happen, and hopefully see some positive change in the industry.

On that note, I think there was something similar about taking action on the borderline slavery contracts in the idol industry? Did anything come of it? Anyone know if there’s been any good changes in that industry?

you clearly didn't understand that he doesn't plan to actually date a girl now, he wanted the double date for…
I know age gap logic can get messy with a supernatural setting.

I’d rather just prefer he not be with anyone until his physical age is a wee bit closer to his mental age and thus he can court more older people that are mature adults and not poor silly teens.

It won’t kill him to abstain. He didn’t seem to have a problem being single when he was physically 47.

As for the exact definition of pedo, I don’t particularly care but as far as Koreans go, they would call a 50 year old flirting with a 17 year a pervert.

We’ll have to agree to disagree.

I do not condone a romantic relationship (any other pure relationship is fine, but romance demands partners to be equals in a sense) with a huge age gap particularly when the younger one is as yet closer to childhood than adulthood.

47 x 17 is a crime for a reason. Shape shifting, soul shifting notwithstanding.

If there absolutely Must be a romance, then I’d be far more comfortable after the younger character was 25+.

You are clearly far too quick to defend pedophilia or an otherwise problematic relationship considering you clearly didn’t read through my entire comment and hastily jumped in to comment one minute after I posted.

I said there is a clear difference between 17 and 47.

I did not negate the difference between 17 and 9 and 5.

Korean age system. 19 in Korea can mean 18 or 17 internationally, depending on the exact birthdate. And that’s not even considering the “fast birthday” system in schools that confused even the Koreans enough to abolish it.

The man still has contacts from his past life, contacts that by the end know who he really is and thus treat him with the same loyalty and respect before. In short he still has access to a position of power which he otherwise wouldn’t have as a normal teenager.

He also has an entire life’s worth of experience and a hell of a lot more adult maturity and wisdom than any normal teenager. Which he also repeatedly demonstrates by successfully parenting the two troubled teen boys around Yi Heon.

It’s the main reason he is able to defuse situations and why is able to command authority from say Dong Cheol who only knows him as a kid/baby nephew but inevitably ends up addressing him as “Hyungnim” without understanding his own meek behaviour.

(Plus now the other kid also knows Deuk Pal’s real identity, knows that it is an adult his dad’s age that is possessing his previous classmate’s body.)

It’s NOT as innocent as YOU are making it out to be.

One of the biggest problems with huge age gaps/ adults vs children is in fact the vast stark contrast in maturity. Your brains are at an entirely different stage and it is why it is so much easier for an adult to negatively manipulate a child even without exerting authority and demanding obedience.

Think about this scenario:

47 year old man possesses a 9 year old’s body and then proceeds to have a romance with another 9 year old. Maybe they put off sex for some years, like a good groomer. But still fucking creepy or not? Can you honestly say it would be not an issue just because physically he looks 9 too?

Replace 9 with 5 now. Absolutely weirder still or not?

Age 17 and 9 and 5 are all very different from each other but so is a ~50 years old middle aged person vs a barely adult.

Title Hierarchy
This show demonstrates what a bad end Kdramaland will end up with if it continues to agree to submit to the will…
☝️☝️👆👆👆👆

The first episode was also really underwhelming imo, not just the rest of the drama.

The characters and school didn’t even feel like they were actually teenagers or in a Korean high school.

Death’s Game I understand because of its part 2, but in what timeline is Twinkling Watermelon a 2024 drama???

I swear voters on mdl voting lists be blind sheep

I haven't seen such a toxic comment section in a while. There are some people who are hanged up on relationship…
As far as the characters in the drama are concerned, I would like to say that they ARE in fact minors. Atleast for the duration of the main plot that takes place in highschool.

I know they say “19 years old” but Korean age system is quite different from international.

The drama makes clear the legal age of the characters multiple times:

•The bullies are sent to juvie, not adult prison.
•Se Kyung and Yi Heon fail to book simple hotel rooms on their impromptu trip to the beach because the hotel needs permission from adult guardians.
•Deuk Pal often brings up his soju cravings but can’t actually buy it as Yi Heon. Neither can Se Kyung.
•The term “minor” is actually said in some episode.

Someone sounds bitter that some BL fans have standards and won't stand for censorshipI thought you've "already…
Serious Question: Have you not been to the pages of like any other drama on this site?

There’s like literal cat fights and hair pulling in some of the pages with fans and antis calling each other dumb for liking or not liking a drama.

And many of them are nowhere near as controversial as this drama.

Besides, who else would defend a drama or a celeb if not a fan or person that likes them?

—about their comment quote lol, I guess it’s a fan that hasn’t completely let go yet. Unsurprising, as it’s only been a week, even if we’re all watching other stuff now.

uhh sorry that argument doesn’t work

A fan is far more naturally likelier to revisit their favourite drama’s pages than someone who is not interested in even watching the drama in the first place.

We can't say for certain whether the producers/production team are/is homophobic, but we're certain that the decision…
You realise the audiences you talk about, commenting here are just the same as you? Fellow reviewers?

We are Not representatives for the drama or its production company. WE do not make a profit off of sharing our opinions.

So you can’t call someone else (in this case, the producers) two-faced for something someone else said (in this case, a part of the audience denouncing the webtoon).

—-

You know that American shows didn’t dive off the deep end either and started showing only explicit gay/lesbian material in a conservative society from Day 1 ? It took time. And plenty of ambiguous relationships representation or slight hints or a whisper of a minor character here and there before they started to go full out mainstream, and even later excessively aggressive representation and inclusion.

You can’t expect every society and culture to be at the same level as yours and for them to match your speed or expectations.

If you care SO MUCH about gays in Korea or Kdramas releasing mainstream BL genre already, then go ahead and finance it and spread pamphlets door to door about your cause.

Constantly, obsessively commenting on an already low budget little known drama will do little to achieve the huge spades of progress you expect.

Okay but the company has not called the source material problematic has it? Then how is it being two faced ?

If they don’t have the budget to produce another BL and would like to test the waters with a wider audience with a BL vibe bromance, and both they and the source material make money from that, then it is not being homophobic.

The author of the source material could’ve easily insisted his work to only be adapted as a proper BL. But if their work being adapted at all and it being successful is more important to them then it doesn’t hurt their original work. As far more people have now heard of and taken interest in their previously no name BL novel/webtoon.

Read 1 overlooked comment here and just confirmed this:The production company No3 Pictures behind this drama has…

And this^^ is from under the Namu wiki page for this drama. Describing what they think of the foreigners’ response claiming the production company hate BL.
