Literally! This was my first K-Drama and I really enjoyed the chemistry between Ryeoun and Jo Yoo Jung. I loved…
The miscommunication lasts about 5 minutes max.
And the characters are pretty mature and have good communication than most kdramas. Especially in the ending for the couple and the friendship.
They have more hilarious miscommunication than anything frustrating. Example:-
Girl dolls up to go visit boy's house. Calls him: Her- "I'm coming over" *blush* Him- "uhh...but I told you no-one's home today" Her- *blushes more furiously* "I know. But I guess I'm feeling bold and crazy today." Him- "uh okay... sure..." Her- *a little later on the phone* "Don't be shy. Open the door already!" Him- "HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TELL YOU NO ONE IS HOME!" Her- *slow realisation* "wait... you're not home??" Him- "?!!?!!!!! What are you even doing at an empty house??"
They just a little bit of hard time transitioning from lifelong best friends to romantic couple. Add in a fake-dating trope, it gets a little more complicated to figure out your own feelings let alone the opposite person's. But there's a lot more honesty than you might expect.
That's an interesting take, I never considered it that way. Still, even you admitted FL was a device :D Of course…
I mean, the screentime was balanced fairly well according to the billing and character designation.
The first lead is Eun Gyeol, the second is Yi Chan his father, the third Se Kyung/Eun Yu and finally Cheong Ah the mother.
[Considering it does have romcom as a genre, the typical billing in those first lead couple then second lead couple. Not so different here, except the father-son relationship is given more weight than either of the girls or romances.]
Eun Yu isn't a bad character. She has valid reasons for her motivations. And her plans, whilst not too sound, do make sense for POV and for her character. She primarily does exist to serve as a foil and healing for the main character, but unlike many heroines, she maintains her agency and depth. She's mostly definitely needed to motivate the main character to live for himself, because if not for love, he's got little reason to stop sacrificing his life for his family.
I think my biggest issue with this drama was how often the ML's problems were overlooked and with too much almost unnecessary stuff happening to him. Like, why is this poor kid almost dying in the hospital and then no one, not his family, not even himself, ever know about it.
However I liked On Eun Yu's character. She's surrounded by even more endearing characters, so it's a little hard to warm up to her or care about her struggles. But I don't believe she's not needed.
She's different from her mother, more friendly, more chaotic. Which allows Yi Chan's superficial crush on her mom to conclude with a better resolution. Instead of the hurt or embarrassment that would've been inflicted by Se Kyung. Eun Yu also served as a device for them (the boys) to have an excuse to be silly and to work hard for the band (in the case of Yi Chan who was still in the process of differentiating between infatuation and love, and needed time to mature up in order to truly love Cheong Ah, as opposed to just sympathising her for her disabilities).
Lastly, I really feel sorry for characters who are going through some supernatural event like time travel all alone and have no-one to truly relate with. So I'm more than glad Eun Gyeol has a partner who can share in and relate with his experiences. This boy has had enough of a lifetime of feeling left out and lonely amongst his own loved ones.
I was confused What's the problem? why this rating? and now that I'm watching it I'm really enjoying the story…
Those MDL's own gossip rag news writers? A big part of the problem.
Allowing people to rate dramas and episodes that have not been released? Since when? Nonsense.
They've stopped caring about spam voters and fixing that.
Some troll users say extremely disgusting and offensive about artists or other users? Report button is a cute decoration. The trolls and their harassment comments stay forever.
Unfortunately all the features of the friendly user interface, along with the long established name and community, still makes this the best best site for East Asian drama lovers to congregate at and to share reviews. IMDb for example- the other most widely known review site, is a somehow worse option.
Kinda sad, that acting doesn't seem to matter, only body size. At least two men from your list are awful actors…
I haven't heard one of those guys on the list. But atleast 3, maybe 4 of those named, are average actors.
But I don't think it's only height discrimination (don't doubt that it does affect popularity, atleast one of those guys wouldn't be much loved if he was like 1.70).
She is Chinese. A korean speaking Chinese basically. Wang Jihyun by her original name. Korea stole her from China,…
Ah, yes, the woman born and raised in Korea who decided to earn her money in Korea was stolen from China, the country that loves stealing land and other things from all its neighbours.
And yet his shelf is full of all the acting awards he won this year 🤣
Disclaimer: I know nothing about this particular actor or his family or their wealth
I just want to bring to light that most models/actors/idols are actually living paycheck to paycheck and without a luxurious lifestyle.
It's only the really successful A-listers that are stinking rich which gives the false image that all celebrities are automatically rich and living the dream life. When it's not true for the actual majority of people in the industry. They are people with jobs just the same as anyone, only their jobs subject their face becoming known by strangers, (who think knowing their face and name gives them a right to their life and decisions.)
There's a recent article about a fairly well-known supporting actress living in some tiny ass apartment with mould, working part-time at a cafe because her job as an actress does not bring in steady income (and actors can't even always escape high rent areas by moving away to cheaper cities because they have to be nearby the industry in order to score roles and act).
One thing that bothers me about the second couple is that, when they go to the convenience store the clerk tells…
The FL's sleazy ex-boyfriend? He said he stole or got the alcohol from his older brother and underaged drinking is... quite common everywhere really. Depending on the legal drinking age (18 in my country, 17 year olds sneakily getting their hands on alcohol wouldn't even be a big deal)
I don't know about the condoms but I've seen another kdrama that also showed 17 (Korean age) year olds being able to buy these standard condoms but not special ones. (A kdrama special titled: Everything and Nothing)
Underaged sex is... it also happens in every culture. If it is happening then it's best that they have access to protection rather than no protection at all.
Yeah, but Cheong Ah was always a Chaebol child. So that wealth was theirs anyway.
Also, Ma Joo was uber rich and successful even in the original timeline and was about to adopt Eun Gyeol for their career so even in that timeline they'd have ended up super wealthy in a few years max.
And having money does make quite a difference on the weight that's laid on Eun Gyeol's shoulders. Since he doesnt have to be forced into being the only connection and protection between his whole family and the world.
Eun Gyeol wouldn't have escaped "Nepo" allegations by his media even in the OG timeline when MJ's CEO was his deaf dad's childhood best friend and the renowned Yoon Dong Jin was once part of the same band that his father was the frontman of.
Like, for people who just want to hate on people, they don't need a reason. Wealth, connections, disabilities, genetics, looks.... anything and everything can and will be used against you. Since it's not going to make a difference anyway, might as well claim what belongs to you already (in this case Cheong Ah's wealth is returned to her and her family when in the OG timeline a witch came and successfully stole that).
This was one of the first dramas on my watchlist which was years ago and I only watched it recently which I regret...…
Douban looks like a Chinese site and not quite heard of for international kdrama fans, so mdl or imdb is still where we flock
mdl has had rating issues since forever actually, only the mods in the past years are corrupted now, so the bigger issue is the posts of cheap gossip articles over user editorials and filthy users not getting banned or their comments deleted when they make personal attacks
I wasn't expecting such an immature and tone-deaf line in your review:"Her sob story doesn't justify her feelings…
•She's felt trapped and like a marionette for her dysfunctional mother her whole life. Like, the woman wouldn't even let her eat? (Controlling her weight to fit into a silly dress? Even the stylist said that teenaged girls are naturally 'chubbier' and that she'll lose that naturally in college). We don't even know if Eun Yu even likes music for herself or would rather choose to purse something like photography if given the chance. We know how her mother grew up and what lead to her becoming a dysfunctional adult, but she's forced her own vision on her daughter.
•A close friend of hers took her own life. This is actually something that can and does trigger people to follow in the same path. And when you're barely 16 and it's that time of life when every problem feels larger than life? Having a close peer suicide is bound to heavily impact your own mental health.
•Then on top of that, she's not even allowed to grieve her friend properly because her mother lowkey talks like a sociopath and tells her to use her grief for her "cello performances". Which leads to EunYu temporarily experiencing psychological deafness.
•Her parents have been bitterly fighting for atleast half her life and her dad (the only person who occasionally gave her relief from her mom, has moved on with another woman back in US after their divorce the past year). Kids from bitterly divorced homes often blame/resent themselves for existing and for their parents relationship.
uh, sorry, but do you know what were the stats for the movie Parasite?
Thank you for the stats
I'm trying to compare and understand the statistics you shared for this (King's Warden) film vs a bunch of other films; because the only internationally widely discussed Korean film I knew of was Parasite.
This is my first time watching Ryeoun and oh my god has he always been this charming with stellar screen presence?…
If you want to watch Si Eun's best friends interact with each other in another drama. I'll recommend Twinkling Watermelon where Suho and Baku have an amazing relationship.
(Watch without spoilers to get maximum reaction effect from the narrative twists).
What kind of a fucked up person would wish a pedo a good life? This actor abused a minor and filmed it and was…
See, This is why I'm saying the human justice system is deeply flawed at its core. As for an alternate justice system, I never once suggested public's vote. Democracy is another deeply flawed human system and public in general can be quite ignorant and overly emotional.
I'm not suggesting any alternatives here nor want to discuss that right now (least of all on this page). Just made a point that the current system is flawed and requires thought on alternatives.

As for your first query. It was just a stress induced nightmare lol. Not an actual future.
The first lead is Eun Gyeol, the second is Yi Chan his father, the third Se Kyung/Eun Yu and finally Cheong Ah the mother.

It's in serious need of a management overhaul and some bare minimum of modding
But I don't think it's only height discrimination (don't doubt that it does affect popularity, atleast one of those guys wouldn't be much loved if he was like 1.70).
People that get called out on always resort to saying "it's not that serious" "it was just a joke" like some juvenile bullies......

"Her sob story doesn't justify her feelings to suicide"
I'm sorry. Misery and hardships is not a comparison game and the drama even makes sure to explicitly say this for Eun Yu.
You don't have to like her character or to empathise with her but you don't get to negate and decide someone's feelings for them.
People have taken their lives in real life over far "simpler reasons".
The character has got plenty of reasons to be depressed:
I'm trying to compare and understand the statistics you shared for this (King's Warden) film vs a bunch of other films; because the only internationally widely discussed Korean film I knew of was Parasite.
But some agencies just need to be buried and forgotten in the ground.
That shit agency was where Kim Sae Ron started out in too.

What kind of bullying behaviour this toxic fan has ????!!
