Not banned. Limited. Banned would mean they will not be able to air costume dramas ever again, there will not be any more costume dramas project, everything's shelved. Limited means they're limiting the number of costumes able to air every year. This situation was originally planned to be initiated back in Q1 (with rumor of this plan going as far back as December last year) but it wasn't able to be done, so in Q2 it is. If you're reading the many posts on weibo reporting about this, this will only affect Q2, meaning from April through June.

Yesterday I opened weibo, happy to see many posts mentioning this drama (I thought it finally has a date so people are excited)...only to have my hope crushed once I read the actual content of the posts :'(

Either after June like the info mills going around since yesterday, or sometime after October (after the commemoration). Now what makes me worry is that there's bound to be many tv dramas piling up and only so many tv slots available...

I wish I have happier info to share :( but if you're the type who likes to hold onto hope (lol), then the rumor about this being scheduled for May is still going on XD

That thing about the commemoration is just a speculation, something about gaining back our culture and identity (chinese), so probably more republican dramas during this ban. NRTA is likely not going to explain their reason for this decision. Strictly webdramas I feel will still have a chance to be able to air this year, but for tv dramas... well... I try not to think on this worst case scenario

I have never heard that there's a go ahead for season 2. It's also been so long. This is similar like with Legend of Chusen 3 which supposedly started shooting in 2017 if I remember right, but nothing, not even director or scriptwriter were attached to the project.

If you're asking if Liying will be back to reprise her role (if the project is happening). I highly doubt it. There's a drama behind the production, and rumor has it she...was offended/doesn't like the production team because they're changing things without her consent or whatever. This is just a rumor though. But I'm more inclined to believe it considering what a mess the later half of the drama is.

I wish I were joking. But weibo is hotly discussing this, and flaming sarft/nrta. Everyone is mad, especially the fans of the dramas specifically mentioned to be affected by this (by the marketing numbers' posts).

I wrote a comment about this situation a few months ago here (when it was still just a rumor). Never expected it is nrta themselves who's doing the banning...

If what's going around weibo today turns out to be true (and it probably is true), this will not air before June, because starting from now until June, there's a....ban of sorts for costumes dramas for the networks (cnetz are speculating because of the 70th commemoration of People's Republic of China). So all costume dramas are affected, including those that were originally supposed to start airing next week (like Ju Jingyi's Legend of the White Snake).

Oh well, guess I will find out if I like it once I start watching. I also haven't read the source novel so perhaps that'd help me enjoying the 'adaption' as it is.

Chen Yushan, the producer, responded to PM, probably will set up date for Q2 (does not necessarily mean it'd start on the first month of Q2). I hope she doesn't 'lie' again like the many times before, hahaha

The booting ceremony was held on December 27 last year, but the starring actors only started filming on February 24, 2019. According to the cover poster, this is only 'season 1' of the drama. This is still happening? There has been no news for so long, from the last time I saw the staff booting ceremony (back in 2017 I guess). Even the movie version has finished filming and set up premier date...

Imo it gets worse, pacing gets draggy as heck. The only thing that kept me watching is my curiosity about the secret of the village massacre. I was not disappointed once I got to that part.
