I agree that the show gives off a gender-queer vibe. There’s some nuance in the scene where Hikaru tries to…
Thank you for the further clarification! I got the sense it was meant to be ambiguous (possibly for all audiences to enjoy), but I never know if things are ever lost in translation. Subtext is extremely important, and unfortunately lost on overseas viewers who cannot speak the language fluently.

I did, however, pick up on Haruka's line! She was talking about her "friend" at that point, but we all know when it was stated she was attracted to Hikaru AND his/their gender fluidity regardless of their choice of expression. That is why I see her as bi/pan as well. I don't know if I should call him genderfluid or not because the subtitles and other characters suggest/say it, but Hikaru refers to himself as a crossdresser and wants Haruka to see him as a man as well. I wonder if there is important subtext there too? 🤔 Where I am from, queer people usually use that term ironically (and "crossdressing" is an outdated term as my culture has mostly moved on from assigning gender to clothing).

I pledge allegiance to that height difference 🫡 The first episode basically didn't have a plot, but it starts to kick in at the end of the second episode. Now that I know that source material is basically smut, it starts to make sense 🤭 It's cute and polished.

Title Cinderella Closet Spoiler
From the beginning, he's always acted straight. In fact, even when he dresses as a girl, he claims that his friend…
Thank you. That's what I thought, it was a one-sided attraction on Shu's part (I guess they did have a "history," "one night" they said, but that's why it could not work). For the story, I suppose the FL's assumption that he was gay/bi made it more of an obstacle in the beginning for his confession to be taken seriously. The misconception gender expression=sexuality (and what defines masculinity) is something to think about.

As an aside, something about this show still feels queer on the FL's side. Haruka is attracted to his feminine "girl" side, too. Perhaps, the pan/bisexual projection she puts on Hikaru could be indicative of her own psyche. And part of the obstacle was her coming to terms with being attracted to him, as if Hikaru wasn't a hot cis gender male (her journey is so queer coded). Despite this, the show's chief concern is challenging gender roles, and the only confirmed character to be queer is Shu.

I was watching this on Bilibili, but it's not available anymore :( Does anyone know where to watch this?
It's currently airing on Netflix that's how I am watching. I hear others use vpn to watch on TVer. Or sail the seven seas on kiss**
On Cinderella Closet Aug 30, 2025
I am now caught up. I'm so excited to see them kiss in Hikaru's fem form, too. Did they say he wasn't bisexual? I don't know if I understood that part, not that it takes away from the show. Either way, this show gives off genderqueer bi/pan energy, especially in the fl's wedding daydream and after she cuts her hair. I also think they did the fl did a good job being in denial about her feelings towards her "friend." I hope I remember to watch ep 11 😅

not a BL but it does feel like it was censored from being more overtly queer. jieun does return to being a woman…
Thank you for this comment, I totally missed the packing scene while watching (the photo wall also included a pic of Ji Hun, too). That's cute. It's left ambiguous, especially about sexuality, but its nice that it confirms that Ji E/Hun is living comfortably with her sex changes and embraces that part of her. Even though this is a sci-fi gender bender, it's low key a positive representation of gender fluidity.
It's 100% not a BL, though. I feel like people who watched with that mindset are disappointed, but... the queerbaiting and fact that she'd still be/is a women was so clear from the start. I don't know how people got their hopes up.

Cute, funny, and heart-fluttering… but what exactly did this drama teach us? That mothers shouldn’t accept…
When I started this drama, I dreaded the possible homophobic and transphobic jokes that could've occurred. However, in the end I didn't see it as homophobic or transphobic, but commenting on their societal homophobia and transphobia. The drama didn't side with the mom at all, in fact her response was treated as the odd one out (Yun Jae's dad and sister were very welcoming, that was heartwarming to see). Characters respected pronouns, too. In many ways, the show was challenging kr's societal beliefs. Yun Jae being straight is not inherently homophobic either, that's just who he was—at first he was insecure, then didn't care how others viewed him with Ji Hun.
Though, what you said, "but there wasn’t even one hug to prove it," is a hundred percent correct. The filmmakers are still operating in a homophobic network ('i love you's were said and cut). Is it queerbaiting? Yes, I think so. Is it homophobic? No, unless you count the network censorship. For the show, it all depended on nuance. Ji Hun's portrayal was very respectful to me, never treated like a joke.

7/10. As a gender-bender comedy, this was really great! But as a romance, no. The performances from the cast make this drama worth while (even the characters I despised, I still appreciated the actors). Yoo Jung Hoo as Ji E/Hun was fantastic every step of the way and sold it for me. I never was bored when he was on screen (which he was a lot!) and he's the main reason for me to complete this drama (I'd watch more of his portrayal if I could). I recommend watching with the mindset it's a comedy and giving it a chance past episode 2.

So many? This is the first I've ever watched and I really liked it. Do you have any recommendations?
If you like this type of ML, maybe try these: Make Up with Mud, Otonari Complex (this one is good), Ore no Bijoka ga Tomaranai?! (not romance, its comedy, I liked it), Colorful Love: Genderless Danshi ni Aisareteimasu (I didn't finish this one yet, only saw first episode awhile ago), Princess Jellyfish/Kuragehime (i like the anime better but still good). There are a few cross-dressing BLs, but they don't really have the same "make over" element the straight ones do.
On Cinderella Closet Aug 28, 2025
There are so many crossdressing make up artist male leads, I don't how this became such a popular idea but I love it regardless. Ever since I saw kuragehime as a kid, I loved this dynamic. It's cute and special. I'm liking it so far, on episode 6.

I have a feeling this show might end in a cliffhanger, or at least there will be a few loose ends.

In a round about way, what the main character needs is acceptance. I just wish it wasn't from anyone else but her, maybe that's what will happen. IDK. However, she didn't turn back when she prayed to be a girl forever, it's when Yoon Jae did...so looks like she needs him. Meh.

Anyways, loved seeing Yoo Jung Hoo ❤️ 🙏🏻 I love his portrayal and its sincere. I'd want a season 2 of him as Ji Eun. Maybe the sister switches gender, and Ji Eun gotta teach her the ropes. And a Ji E/Hun +Yu Ri + Min Hyuk love triangle would go craaazy.

I'm at ep 3 and I have 3 questions! (I don't mind spoilers)1. why does ml let 2fl drag him around and be clingy…
LOL, no answers for you still, we are all wondering this and it's not yet answered as of episode 10 (only speculation in comments). MAYBE, the ml views 2fl like a close college friend he doesn't wan't to upset or abandon. She's still in pursuit.

I saw the same scene in the preview, Ji E/Hun says, "I'm getting used to living as a man." Not "permanently"…
Well, I understood that k-dramas used to film, write, and produce the show while it was currently airing. Very similar how they do it with American soap operas (which are confusing, imo).
I don't know if Korean network television still does this process, but sometimes episodes aren't edited until right before and go through last minute changes. They are indeed playing with our minds 😂
On My Girlfriend Is the Man! Aug 14, 2025
Even though I love "Ji Hun" because I love how the actor is portraying this character, and he is so cute with everyone that I'd love to see him forever ❤️, I don't want that for Ji Eun 💔 It's tragic. Maybe she'll turn back into a woman AND still dump Yun Jae. I don't know if his actions are forgivable.

The show tries hard to make it seem that Ji E/Hun does the same with all the girl characters, like the brief Yu Ri flirtation, now Min Ju in bed with her. However, it's just not the same in my eyes. Maybe that is biased, but I think Yun Jae entertains it, whereas Ji E/Hun does not. She is trying to navigate her special situation that causes this misunderstandings, Yun Jae has NO excuse.

I see this more of a light-hearted comedy, so I'm not going to be too mad if the main couple ends up together, as I don't take this show that seriously, but… I'm smart enough to not think they're cute together.

What did ya'll think of the grandma/grandpa storyline? The character and story is not about transgender people, but borrows a lot from their experiences and societal struggles, imo. It is surprising to me how the mom treated the grandmother, given they shared the same experience. Just interesting 🤔

i can't forget the preview of epi 8 i mean jieun said that she wants to be a guy permanently right ???? why she…
I saw the same scene in the preview, Ji E/Hun says, "I'm getting used to living as a man." Not "permanently" but she is having fun? That scene wasn't in episode 8 (I don't even see Ji E/Hun wearing the same outfit). Maybe deleted? It could've been that the network didn't want that on air? Or it's a different future episode.
I don't know, this episode's story is totally the opposite, she is so pained to live as a man. dw it is confusing. 🤔

Why is Minju’s behaviour towards Yun Jae and Ji Eun treated as comedic, but when the stalker student did the…
They should comment on the double standard. They set Min Ju up to be hypocritical and Yun Jae to, I don't know…infantilize her? All the other characters are so well adjusted except them. Those two deserve each other, imo. The major theme is performative gender roles and double standards with looks, it's right there, they are half way to commenting on this other issue. It'd be interesting satire.
