IF they're truly slice of life. Some BL (not just JBL) are set in a school or office and have absolutely no plot or even have nothing to do with the setting. I love slice of life j-dramas, they're the best.

Ah, I guess that could mean he studied abroad then had to repeat his schooling (as in, transferring credits, not sure). If so, he's most likely functioning at a ~20-21 year old adult level (though, his coping skills were effected by his trauma given the kleptomania and emotional attachment to his teacher). I'll stop overthinking that quandary now lol.

I may be a little lost in the story. How is the student 21 years old? Was written down on his counseling sheet? Was he held back a year? (IMO, the age of the student is not the issue, he's a student. This is fictional and well-done so far, so this is not a complaint of the show, the taboo of their inappropriate relationship still stands and the show can still be good, two things can be true at once). Anyway, it would be interesting if he was indeed held back a year and to learn the reason.

It's not a bromance, it's more like a censored BL (or a straight? adaption of Wuthering Heights...which does not make sense to a sane person).

The mother makes this a full-fledged soap opera. I feel like I'm watching a boy's love version of Japan's Glass Mask.

The generational thing is always the go-to excuse instead of admitting ignorance/fault.

The mom talking about discrimination with her friends is kinda real, that's what moms do, love it or hate it (if I was Natsuki I would've cringed at being made a PSA even if she was coming from the right place).

It did get heavy handed when even Riku and his grandpa had something to say 😅.

That's one of the most romantic gestures, more romantic than in most k-romances, I've seen. I JUST saw this room full of candles trope be done in another Netflix romance (My Life With The Walter Boys between the main straight couple). Just because this happened between two characters of the same gender, we're suppose to accept it's no longer a romantic trope? I don't ship them or think they're gay now (even though I was thoroughly confused by the first episode), but I'm not going to pretend it's not romantic. Christ, I wish BL was this romantic lol.

I feel like this show could do well with multiple seasons. There's enough of a supporting cast to keep renewing the plot, and So-chan's family is still something interesting to explore. It's a cozy little show, please have a season 2. 🤞🏻
