Even though I love "Ji Hun" because I love how the actor is portraying this character, and he is so cute with everyone that I'd love to see him forever ❤️, I don't want that for Ji Eun 💔 It's tragic. Maybe she'll turn back into a woman AND still dump Yun Jae. I don't know if his actions are forgivable.
The show tries hard to make it seem that Ji E/Hun does the same with all the girl characters, like the brief Yu Ri flirtation, now Min Ju in bed with her. However, it's just not the same in my eyes. Maybe that is biased, but I think Yun Jae entertains it, whereas Ji E/Hun does not. She is trying to navigate her special situation that causes this misunderstandings, Yun Jae has NO excuse.
I see this more of a light-hearted comedy, so I'm not going to be too mad if the main couple ends up together, as I don't take this show that seriously, but… I'm smart enough to not think they're cute together.
What did ya'll think of the grandma/grandpa storyline? The character and story is not about transgender people, but borrows a lot from their experiences and societal struggles, imo. It is surprising to me how the mom treated the grandmother, given they shared the same experience. Just interesting 🤔
i can't forget the preview of epi 8 i mean jieun said that she wants to be a guy permanently right ???? why she…
I saw the same scene in the preview, Ji E/Hun says, "I'm getting used to living as a man." Not "permanently" but she is having fun? That scene wasn't in episode 8 (I don't even see Ji E/Hun wearing the same outfit). Maybe deleted? It could've been that the network didn't want that on air? Or it's a different future episode. I don't know, this episode's story is totally the opposite, she is so pained to live as a man. dw it is confusing. 🤔
Why is Minju’s behaviour towards Yun Jae and Ji Eun treated as comedic, but when the stalker student did the…
They should comment on the double standard. They set Min Ju up to be hypocritical and Yun Jae to, I don't know…infantilize her? All the other characters are so well adjusted except them. Those two deserve each other, imo. The major theme is performative gender roles and double standards with looks, it's right there, they are half way to commenting on this other issue. It'd be interesting satire.
can't even feel bad for minju at the end because that's literally what she does to yunjae, doesn't take no for…
Yes, she was single white female-ing her. I was genuinely afraid for the characters around her. She is not in the clear, yet. I see Jieun forgiving her too easily because she seems to be a well intentioned, slight push over. Min Ju needs to have a heroic act or completely change by the end to help her case.
Why do people keep calling Ji Eun "Ji Hoon"? It's so weird to call her that.
Well I ship as her as the woman she is with Yu Ri, I think others maybe doing that, too. That's what I'm trying to say. It's not black and white for me at least, I don't automatically see her as a man (unless she starts identifying as such). I use "Ji Hun" to relay the brilliant efforts of the actor in his character. He makes his character his own. I wouldn't be complimenting Ji Eun/A Rin in that instance. The characters also differentiate the persona of "Ji Hun", Yoon Jae included. So we are also talking about the male persona she puts on for others. It's really just an easier, better way to communicate.
The writers knew they needed to humanize Min Ju. The stalker got a stalker. Hopefully, she turns a new leaf. Maybe she'll see through the curse and realize her new friend should be treated with respect.
What's causing the constant switching back and forth between man and woman is the ongoing mystery that Yoon Jae and Ji H/Eun are trying to figure out (the kissing debacle came from them theorizing a kiss would transform her back like a fairytale). Kim Ji Eun's family has a generational curse where one of the women turn into a man in early adulthood explained in episode 2. It happened to Ji Eun's mom. The parents alluded to it being a curse from a witch when they were kids, but a faulty gene when they were grown ups. It's not clear but that's what we have so far.
I can’t get behind "gender bender." Manhood and womanhood aren’t costumes you try on and discard whenever…
Well, if you think about it, the genre is called gender-bender, but it isn't the characters switching gender. Gender is social construct. The main character is switching sex. She still identifies as a woman even when she's in a male body. Her BF still acknowledges the gender she is. It is sometimes a struggle for him to look past sex=gender, but he is and this situation is challenging his perspective. He's just also an awful character that we can't even appreciate when he does see her for her 😂
This drama probably hits like crack cocaine if you like boys and girls. Who can be mad at cuties Ji Hun and Ji Eun? (We band together to collectively hate on Yoon Jae).
The way I was giggling and rolling around at the NK joke, omo. And we got our Ji E/Hun & Yu Ri kiss ❤️ Edit: also the sis applying mascara to her lips by accident was hilarious as well.
Finally finished this! Abe Alan is now one of my favorite Japanese actors because of this series. So much comedic talent. There were two episodes (4&6) that were a little bit of a let down, but not enough to sway my overall opinion of the series. It's a great comedy.
I finally get this show. This isn't about Yoon Jae loving Ji Eun even if she looks like a dude, it is about Ji…
Right! I'm kind of glad when the show becomes more about Ji Eun/Ji Hun, and her/their issues with the curse rather than the romance. The romance is basically a farce (thank god, because I don't want to take Yun Jae seriously. He's a man child 😭).
Not me being messy and shipping Ji Hun and Yu Ri… 😭 The transformation won't be permanent, and I will have to mourn the loss of Ji Hun. I'm not ready for that.
I think it's cute, nothing spectacular. Not a lot of romance, it's more of a comedy of errors playing upon gender roles—which is probably why I'm liking it so far. I don't know how much longer I'll keep watching, but I like what Yoo Jung Hoo is giving to his role as a male counterpart. The only eye roll is the absolute panic about kissing a "man", even if the BF is a straight man—it's just a tired comedic trope that is 2000s pilled; however, Ji Hun's character is respectable, and balances out the gender-bender tropes with some nuance. It reminds me of "A Good Day to Be a Dog", a little.
I'm kind of hoping for more plot, and for Ji Hun/Ji Eun to continue to out-stage her boyfriend. Tbh, I wouldn't call this a bromance/bl, it's squarely in the gender-bender genre. If this wasn't a romance, and the plot just centered on Ji Hun/Ji Eun navigating their curse, this would be so much better, imo. Sorry, Yun Jae. He's the weakest link for me. But, not totally bad that I'd write him off just yet.
