I loved the format of this episode! The two producers were hilarious with narrating the showdown, and the subtle gag of them eating three mountains of fries made me laugh! Then the karaoke version of the childhood commercial… I didn't want to laugh because it was so stupid but I ended up laughing anyway. 😂
Might be reading a little too deep for what kind of show this is, but I thought it was interesting that they differentiated peace and happiness when it comes to being open about sexuality, and when it comes to being openly gay and happy one is ultimately forced to forfeit peace. Very nuanced.
I don't understand the MDL audience...Let gay men have rampant, pleasurable sex on screen, and out come the pearl-clutchers,…
I understand. To me this reminds me of Happy of the End, but an idealized version, more along the lines of fan-fiction and the show itself completely forgets that scene, it has no factor going forward. Tone is all over. That aside, there are other things to find entertaining so I continue to watch.
Nothing will ever top Sing in Love (kill your gays, tragedy porn, r*ape fantasy, etc), and the "cultured" crowd who praise it. I still watch things I have criticisms with, fluff and melodrama alike, no matter the quality, as long as those shows are self-aware of what they are. This show feels self-aware, that it is basically fan-fiction. If that is not your taste, if you just can't stand clichés, don't waste your time on this one or wait to skip'n'binge.
Ratings here are never based on meritocracy. To be honest, this case isn't the worst I've seen, by far, because at least this show has redeeming qualities (good production, humor).
His ACTING is indeed BAD! The character,Han Jiwon, is supposed to be shy yes, scared yes, anxious yes, but Yeom…
You have the most leveled-headed point of view here, my friend. Others should learn to do the same without personal attacks on the actor, aka "twig" comments that just show immaturity.
I needed to watch this right after taking my adderall. There was no time for characters to even breathe. It's not the worst of the reels, but I hate this format with a passion. Why film and make it look like a legit drama but then put in a vertical aspect ratio that turns it into a crappy i-phone short? I really don't understand this pointless workflow. Just shoot it on i-phone to begin with, the vertical ratio already makes it experimental, not doing so just turns out a final mismatched product.
It's used in youtube crack videos all the time so young gens know about it that way.
Yup, the fandom version of crack, lol. that's the exact meaning. It's originally Irish slang. the test card used for laughs still perfectly works in this show's context, imo, cause its so silly. 🤣

They use it basically as a transition between clips. Its not really used as a censoring tool but its become a joke. I also mean crack as in the Irish slang, btw. I realize that might've sounded confusing to others, another way to say it is funny compilation videos. Sometimes people use it after someone says something outlandish to mimic cutting the cameras, but it's more so used to make a quick cut (example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l57cInZ4Wg). They use this and static interchangeably. So, if anything, they might think its the same thing as tv static. It's really just a marker to let people know the video isn't serious and isn't meant for perfection, hence the mimicking of a weak signal or like flipping through tv channels. This test card and the tone sound are still available effects in most editing apps. I doubt they know the full context of it being used to test broadcast settings, though.
Okay, this episode was hilarious. Taking him to a buffet and making him sleep on the floor 😭 "Is it hard?" "I'm too hot" I'm just enjoying Wu Suo Wei being a tease. Sometimes I buy that Chi Cheng likes being denied, other times I don't know how this game will plausibly continue.
Agree. Also he's not just saying "I don't wanna", but "I want to, but I don't feel ready". He was so scared, thought…
Yes. Others are saying his hesitation is due to self-hate and internalized homophobia when the main reason is that he is a famous public figure. At that stage, it is not as easy to avoid defamation and harassment. Jeong U is not at that level of fame yet, and doesn't know. Ji Won wants to protect him, not hide him. Even in America, today, in the liberalist of states, openly gay male athletes have it extremely hard and their careers are threatened.
Both characters disagree on how to maintain privacy while trying to be together, and to be honest, their open communication is great. There is nothing wrong with either characters' behavior, I agree. This is more nuanced than simply "being stuck in the closet" for Ji Won, who literally just discovered he was gay. Ay caramba…
I like this series, even though I’m critical of certain aspects, and I really like the main actors and their…
You pretty much nailed it on the head. I really don't understand the shy criticism. Ji Won is avoiding public scrutiny and scandal from the press and social media. He is laying low. That's the whole point of that hat, guys! Be serious now.
HOW is this sitting at 7.6? Lost In The Woods is one of the best Thai BLs I've ever seen. It does what so few do, show off the beautiful, diverse Thailand in all its majesty. The original music is a reprieve to the ears from that usual copyright free slop. A slow build that fleshes out the characters as they overcome adversity with poignant themes of rejection and self-love. Both leads are handsome, with my personal favorite flashy city boy and stoic woodsman combination. Amazing budget, production design, cinematography, sound, acting, everything really… We need a season 2. I know it doesn't have much in the way of sexuality, but the romantic tension and bonding is through the roof! If you appreciate salient coming of age romantic dramas then please watch this. This was so so good.
Still unfamiliar with c-dramas, so the dubbing really tests my patience. It feels so antiquated, shooting without sound is a practice that ended in the 50s, and ADR is only used today to fix mistakes in post. These new crop of c-bls feel like taiwanese dramas pre 2015, both in terms of sound quality and story. The step-brothers, lets say fascination, is getting old at this point. Tbh, this is a quick drama that isn't too offensive so completionists, or those curious about the new c-bl wave like I was, might as well check it out, but don't expect anything remotely close to Revenged Love.
The trailer and synopsis really tempered my expectations for this drama. School settings and music themed BLs always seem doomed to be bland. Moreover, typical tropes apply to this story. However, after watching the first two episodes I think this drama has a lot of promise.
We get to examine the main character, Hayakawa, at the points in life where his uniqueness pales due to societal norms and customs where the concept of music mirrors sexuality. He resents Konno who never faced those inhibiting experiences, yet admires him at the same time. Konno is an observer and exists outside of societal pleasantries, his camera represents a different viewpoint. His authenticity helps Haya embrace self acceptance.
Extremely relatable and complex feelings are tackled with nuance both in the actors' ability and story. Usa Takuma as Hayakawa Shuichiro is especially great casting as he can externalize his character's innermost feelings—something a factory-made BL actor can not do. So far, this is contemporaneous with j-dramas as a whole, who focus on mainstay motifs of ambivalence and dissonance rather than obvious external conflicts.
In terms of fulfilling BL demands, glances and touches are keyed in to create intimacy. There is also an intriguing element of voyeurism with cameras and perspectives. It is both sexual and represents the characters' focus on others and false perception. The cinematography and lighting is also good, reframing the usual drab walls of classrooms. Sexy, yet tasteful, imo, and less fantasy.
