I think that's the result of a broader problem with GMMTV shows. Over time they've produced so many bls that the common tropes are all well known, which makes them bypass what I see as necessary backstory. Instead of showing us each character's struggles, we're meant to "guess" them, and later on these guesses are confirmed by the actors on livestreams. But we never get actual confirmation in the shows!
If I take Jack, I would've liked flashbacks from his relationship with Dean, since every action of theirs right now is based on previous experiences they had together. But instead we're served awkward and unrelated scenes like them delivering flowers to a random person, something that adds nothing to the story and is probably just meant as empty fan service.
I think that's why I like RomeRaffy the best, because so far every scene they've had was actually supporting the story. Fanservice works best when it actually moves forward the plot, and it's not what I'm getting from the other couples... And why I would like more of these twoã… ã…

BL couples are the bane of BL series... Angst, NC and red flags is literally the concept of Only Friends and what made S1 so fun in the first place. Removing this for S2 by creating explicitly clear boundaries between couples was a mistake and explains every complain for this show. Tension is barely tensioning, only RomeRaffy are somewhat exciting as we can't predict how they will reconcile even though we know they're set to be together. But they can't save the whole thing by being sandwiched in between JackDean, whose story of "ex to lover to misunderstanding to lover again" is as predictable as it is boring, and ArnoldTua, who are just too sickly sweet and innocent to fit the original tone of this show. Pretty disappointing overall.

You're so right about JackRaffy... They could've made some flashback scenes where Jack flirts/sleeps with Raffy after his break up with Dean and frame it as some sort of rebound. For the first point I was talking about the rookie actor who was exposed by BTS for having sex with the mayor! His scene is paralleled with CSA, and while she was so traumatized by it that she still has PTSD, the rookie's reaction to it was brushed off and he is later shown to fake his tears in front of the media as if he didn't care for the situation. This kind of idea that men would "want" to be sexually abused by women in order to gain something is sexist and really hinders men to actually denounce their abusers.
As for The Handmaiden, I am well aware of it, but I think the subject matter of the film and its director all played a big part in being "socially" accepted. Park Chan Wook is known for dark, twisted films. The Handmaiden takes place in the 1930s, when SK was under Japanese colonization, and you can clearly sense the disturbing "influence" of Japanese culture in the film. All these elements make it that the lesbian relationship could be interpreted as a twisted, evil, or strange anomaly in a disturbed universe. Combined with Park Chan Wook's reputation, this was a somewhat accepted portrayal of a gay relationship.
But here in Climax, CSA is portrayed as a mainstream melodrama actress. The lesbian relationship seemed to be the sole focus of her film, which is described as a regular romance set in present time. There's no elements of fantasy, no precise historical context, no exterior evil influence... I honestly doubt something like that could be released and acclaimed today (although I'd be happy to be proven wrong). We've seen the reaction for Love in the Big City, and it wasn't great...
