winning a cannes doesn't mean much... you do realize many of the cannes winners are pretentious, artsy nonsensical films? bargain received a 7.4 because the plot is nonsensical. i mean, i agree that some of the scores are inflated like crazy, but the lower ranked ones (especially the dramas and not the films) are often ranked low for a reason.

fs in beyond evil? kingdom was not fast paced, it had many build-up eps. but ok, fine, stranger, through the darkness, the guest, the king of pigs, children of nobody, life on mars, strangers from hell, nobody knows, white christmas... like cmon now. even imbd has rated this poorly.
you're forgetting that k-films first hit international stage with their thrillers, not their rom-com.

no, no i think u're misunderstanding me. like people were saying hellbound was only lowly rated because it was a thriller, then i watched it and the writing was absolute garbage. i think there are thrillers that are well written with high quality and those will be loved almost universally, but ones with subpar writing, acting, directing, etc will not be rated highly. in other words, i have yet to experience an incredibly high quality thriller that wasnt also well received.

i dont get comments like this. if a drama is well written, well directed, and the acting is good, people will rate it highly, for example, signal and beyond evil.
if there's issues in any of those three factors or more, it typically wont be well received.

i liked him for train to busan and king of pigs. hellbound, peninsula, and the rest were ass to me. this guy is known for hits and misses. he literally ruined the save me series 😭😭. we can be ambivalent about someone without being a hater.

uh, the part about failure is just my evaluation for how successful his "hopeless" movie was. but yes sjk himself has claimed he wanted to pursue international projects in an interview and that's why he was doing an indie project for free.

when the wife news came out, some of the k-netz, especially the female netz, went crazy and started spreading malicious rumors, hating on sjk, etc., while most just lost interest in him. given that atmosphere, given that he wants to pursue projects internationally (but failed), and given that he's working with rookie screenplays at his caliber, i don't think it's presumptuous to assume he's at least greylisted.

i never claimed there was any problem. i never claimed/insinuated that starting your own agency is problematic either. i never claimed to know more about sjk in the forums than others. stop reading between the lines and read properly.

true but it was a small indie movie project, so i dont think that counts. it also didn't do well domestically or internationally either.

i think production companies just arent sure. there are projects that have flopped even without any controversy so the slightest issues can become a big fear. if he features in a successful project and many people flock to his movie/drama then other companies will probably have more confidence in hiring him. problem with korea is it's too small with too large of a talent pool.
