Finallly watched it with subs and what can I say what a great film indeed. Japan has a way to make you feel suffocated with its grounded portryal of family problems but at the same time give you that much needed hope in the end. Brilliant perfromance form its cast, Mieko harada is darn believable as a woman with alzeimers and Ikematsu and Tsubamuki represents the type of person, how we act when we get hit with similar situation. The subtle change in Tsubamuki's facial expression from the film's climax to its ending sums up the whole movie.
Taiga would really be the guy if he suda masaki nakamura tomoya in this drama. I've seen that happen before and I see that happening here again. It's just sometimes drama gods would reward the one that gives more effort.
Japan has fair share of visual novel type of mystery in their dramas, Anata no Ban Desu, Nippon Noir and the uber popular 3 Nen A Gumi for example. Its an acquired taste not everyone will like it but if the mystery hoook you there is a chance you will love it. I hate nippon noir for a fact that I don't give a damn about everything in that drama which is a total opposite of what I feel about Kiken Venus and it also helps that I love the chemistry betweeen these two leads. As a guy I can easily say Satoshi Tsubamuki is such a good looking guy, he looks atleast 10 years younger than his actual age but damn how can you be so lucky with Yoshitaka and Nakamura anne at your side, two of the most gorgeous Japanese actress IMO.
I was a bit worried at first when I saw Araki Yuko in this type of role, she may be a mediocre actress but has enough range to play the role and more importantly fits the character really well. I shouldn't doubt WOWOW, they never f*cked up casting even once, other japanese tv station should learn from them. The drama is great so far, very engaging first episode, great veteran actors, I love that severus snape looking detective so freaking badass, music is superb btw, WOWOW managed to hoard these great composers.
I would say it's an acquired taste, I ended up liking it. The mystery part hooked me already. No wonder big actors such as Tsubamuki Satoshi agreed to this.
Sakaguchi Kentaro is a huge miscast in this drama. He is 10 years younger than Shibasaki Kou. I guess they need ikemen power for ratings sake even Ai Hashimoto seems to be miscast too. Well atleast Honami/Shibasaki combo is nice, they are both great. Typical jdrama where theme/message is more important than anything.
Sono got some really gooooood amateur talents here just saying, they are only amateur by name but I guarantee they know acting more than any cute but mediocre mainstream actors on TV, heck their names aren't even listed here on MDL. It just goes to show how f*cked up casting policies in Japan, or the rest of the world for that matter, because for people in suits making movies is business first before Art. More than gore Sono is known for his random well constructed narrative but also for putting his own commentary in his movies, in particular criticizing the whole society, here it felt so timely that when he breaks the fourth wall in end, it just hits you different.
Tanaka Taketo showing some promise in that trailer. He could really be something big in the future. Japanese auteur directors keep casting him and that says a lot for his potential.
