From time to time I need dramas like this cause once mystery hooked you it will be entertaining from start to finish, it doesn't really matter if the ending is sh*t or not. It's not a masterpiece in terms of writing, world building or character development, but it's engaging, fun and a times funny. I like how they made all these characters SUS if they did that in other dramas I will hate it but here it serves its purpose, but got to admit I can't watch this type of drama all the time maybe 2 of these in a year is enough. I can't rate this yet since I treat season 1 and 2 the same.
I hope the movie is very good cause if not they would waste the potential for this story as a whole. For a drama that serves as a promo for the movie this is very good I just wished eps was longer but just like I said it's a promo so it's understandable. I'm surprised the story is based on the manga given the topic is well researched, grounded to reality and it being non preachy.
Acting is very good this could be among Arimura Kasumi's top 3 performance but it's Ishibashi who steal the show looking baddass with that hair. Lastly before I forget trigger warning there are scenes that might disturb you so definitely not for everyone.
I've only seen 3 asadoras but I think this is one of the most serious and deepest one. I've heard news in Japan where there is a debate whether it's better to just relocate people who reside in dangerous areas and there is part in this drama where they tackled that beautifully that's one, the other is how they approach the mental health part which felt stronger from middle up to the end. There is a character which only appeared a bit, we haven't even seen his face, but when everything is done and you look at the drama as a whole you would feel his addition is genius, subtle yet so powerful.
The characters are also more grounded than other asadoras no one here felt caricature. The main lead is not the same cheerful asadora heroine we used to see a bit timid especially at the start but Kiyohara is really a wonderful actress able to show her character struggles with subtle acting, the best is her scenes with her sister and sensei, those have really wonderful writing. I will remember this drama as the time when Kaya Kiyohara and Makita Aju met two of the best young actress in Japan, hard to believe those 2 are just 19 with how they played their character effectively. Lastly if you are looking for romance then I bet you would love this drama, it is much better than most jdramas in that aspect, no piggyback ride, a guy chasing a girl inside a bus or other larger than life romatic scenes, here it is just dialogue between mone and sensei, slowburn, innocent and mature love.
I didn't realize mone's dad and asaoka were partners in the drama Kinou Nani Tabeta until they met, there's a bit of fanservice too, I was like this scene seems familiar lol, but that episode ended up one of the best and an important episode, very emotional and well written too. I see it's the same screenwriter from that drama kudos, this is shaping up becoming one special drama.

I've seen norwegian wood I didn't like it as much. I think it is much better if they just adapt his short stories than full novel. Yes you have to be in certain mood, the best is after work, you are tired, your brain is empty, so you can just absord what you watch or read, it also helps when it's raining atleast it works for me but not just for murakami but all slowburn festival films.
Question: Ok so I read the short story sometime in the summer this year and have largely forgotten about it. Should…
The main plot is drive my car but he borrowed elements from, kino and Scheherazade (short stories that also in the same book). The stage play also played an important part. With that said even with elements from different murakami shorts and added multilingual play based on chekov's uncle vanya, the film doesn't ended up disjointed infact it just strengthen the core theme in the end.
If you watched burning this film is more loosely based compared to that but if you love murakami both gave the same atmosphere same as when you are reading his books. Both are masterpiece for me.
It seems it was a good novel to read, colorful characters and fascinating setting, I wonder if it's available in english. As for the movie it is very good, the ending sequence is genius just made me more curious what would it became had they put more time on those characters, adapted it into 8-10 eps drama or maybe an anime adaptation.
just looked at your list. looks you live in bubble of kdramas. you should watch more and more jdramas. they shows…
I think it's the China US relation that happen in episode 7 why the ratings fell most people in Japan favor US than China. Sadly even in Japan people are not logical whenever they watch something on TV. I don't like politics in any media I consumed but what happened in this drama is logical for me I actually see that happening if it became a reality.
One of oguri shun's best role to date if not his best. There is also Japan sinks anime that I watched but this one if focused on the political side which is a really fresh idea but the best thing about this drama is the pacing, they cut all the unecessary b***sh*t that are present in every disaster type of stories.
