lol to be fair it was like, person a loves person b, person b knda like person a, person c don't give a shit about person a, person a also don't give a shit about person c, but in the end person c and a would end up together. It's a different algebraic formula.
I've just watched this, now I understand why many people love this, I watched the first episode before I stop, it didn't start well, and episode 4 or maybe 5 is where the magic began. What would happen if you put many great supporting actors in the cast?...great characters...Interesting characters, that have great back stories, perhaps this drama has the best back stories in any drama I've watched. My favorite is the back story of the president, it's so detailed and well done; ken yasuda's character is quite interesting too.
My only complaint is that no back story for odagiri's character, which makes his character quite mysterious, I even felt that he is not one of the main role here and even more Sakaguchi kentaro. Kento Nagayama's should be the main role instead, and I love how he played that character, one of the best I've seen from him. Kuroki haru has been the most subtle actress to me so it quite surprisingly seeing her in roles like this, it's like seeing yuya yagira in aoi honoo.
Aside from well known supporting actors there were lots of fresh faces too, I'm quite excited to see more from that mangaka lady, not that much potential but I do love her aura and she's drop dead gorgeous. That bob cut haired middle school girl got quite a potential and I really love her character, she looks like a manga character LOL.
The music was on point too which added up to the emotions of certain scenes, I think there were 2 scenes that made me a bit teary-eyed.
I watched this with the expectation of knowing more about the manga world specially the editing side, that alone makes this drama worth watching, but I ended up getting more, the message each of those character left in me.

Man that episode 2 is perfectly done, those pictures almost got me teary eyed especially the one she sends to the teacher. This live action is different from the anime version, they even remove the plot twist which only makes sense cause most people that will watch this probably have seen the anime version. I wouldn't mind the changes as long as the fillers were this great.
The guy who opened my eyes that there are some Johnny actors who can act. Comedy is his forte and my boss my hero until now is the funniest drama I've ever seen, those LOL scenes with him are until now engraved in my brain. I really miss this guy so I will definitely pick those later dramas you've mentioned.
BTW have you seen his movie with mayuko fukuda, I really like that movie it was based I think from a foreign movie but I forgot the title.

There have been no subs for those you've mentioned, dramas or movies. As a Yamada fan, one of my biggest disappointments was that I don't know Japanese that I am not able to sub this. It looks so damn interesting, they won't have 3 seasons of drama and 2 movies if not.

I say give it a try, I understand your reservations but those will be gone on later episodes. You might be surprised that as the story progressed you will love a certain character that you hate in early episodes, and that talks alot about the character development in this drama, it is well done. The cons are that supporting characters can sometimes become annoying.
