It tries to be a detective drama or maybe not, but either way, the cases are poorly executed. There's basically no suspense or logic, Li Lianhua is omniscient, and Fang Duobing keeps suddenly solving the cases in his long explanations with conclusions out of nowhere. Also the fight choreo is pretty mediocre.
Anyways, had some expectations with how popular and highly rated it is on douban, but not my cup of tea. Could be the contrast with Strange tales of Tang dynasty that I watched recently.
Xue Huan only guest actor this season, just like the Princess and ex-Crown PrinceHe only appear in the last case…
Rolled my eyes instantly when he showed up out of nowhere π The lack of involvement of the princess and crown prince really made the cases less interesting in this season.
Half way into season 2, and it's still as good as season 1, though the cases in season 1 were more interesting and deeper. Have to say I'm glad that that annoying kid Xue Huan isn't in here so far.
It was funny to see some interesting guest stars. Li Zongheng and Zhang Baiqiao during the Mo's Inn arc, they're huge on douyin. And especially He Gang during the last arc, he always plays Di Renjie in the webmovies.
I've been waiting so long for a Jin Yong (like) wuxia and this couldn't be better. So many episodes and so many familiar faces (luckily barely any idols), I so can't wait to watch this
I get that they have no budget to have european style armor and (cgi) background, still kinda yikes though. I wonder if they even have orcs/demon races cgi'd in here.
This english title makes me puke. Was excited to see Johnny Zhang in a main role for a minute, but looks like he had been replaced by a newcomer ages ago.
Been wanting to watch this for a while, but still not sure if I want to stare at the manchu/qing hairstyle for 40 episodes without it being a palace harem/historical.
A solid drama, very slice of life-ish set around the store of the group of friends. As for the plot, the first season is more of an initial setup introducing all the parties, and their alleged involvement in the event that started everything and which everything is connected to. As for the wuxia part, don't expect flashy and many fights, I could count it on my hands. But the wuxia elements are definitely sincere in here. This season raised a lot of questions. Hope for a quick season 2.

A very nice travel map made by a bilibili user, showing the cases and the locations which you can also follow when watching: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1AEvXeNEjP/

This material might clear some things up, as it can get somewhat confusing with the timelines and the many names involved. (Contains spoilers)
