this is the third and last part of the trilogy called "Hakodate Trilogy".
the other two movies are Sketches of Kaitan City (2010) and the Light Shines Only There (2014). all three movies are based on the works of author Yasushi Satô and are set in Hakodate,the author's hometown in Hokkaido,northern Japan.
Hakodate is one of the largest cities in Japan, rich in nature and history.

i enjoyed this film for what it is.nothing extraordinary is happening, it's just average people battling inner demons.
we all have a cross to bear ,haven't we?
life is a struggle and our personal issues affect the ability to cope with everyday life and deal with others.
aoi yu's character is annoying but her performance as a bipolar girl stuck on me

it was worth the wait. builds great moments of emotional payoff ,including epic battles

we've seen bold queer stuff from japan that broke serious ground but it's like they choose to deepen the mystery.the aesthetic and cultural values of japan come first and it's what makes the difference about them

japanese are best at fueling our desire and then leave us hanging!

i suppose that the film wanted to convey an internal monologue.
navigating with feelings towards same sex in the 1970's must have been tough.

7/10 for film aesthetics

i expected to see more fights and intense battles in and out the ring but this leans more towards a compassionate drama

i think nobody can legitimately argue that kim seon ho is so iconic here.
worth it for this nutcase

made me think of Stephen King's The Mist (2007)

shoot entirely on location in Japan,it's only essential to put it here.i don't think if anything like that ever happened before. surely a historical moment that has marked the beginning of other co productions
