the new series is definately more accurate and closer to the novel's brutality but fails to offer the characters gentleness and warmth. blackthorne in the old version inducing more empathy. i still remember blackthorne's and mariko's warmth. i didn't feel the same in the new version

i didn't know it was shot in Canada. for me the old version was more effective at inducing emotions :) or i'm just being a little nostalgic 😢 but either way mdl should put it here as it was the first collaboration between us and japan that exposed japanese culture to the west, and for that and only it was revolutionary

some gay men are simply too close minded to process the concept of a broader spectrum of genders and sexualities and its sad. that reminds me of straight homophobic people's beliefs. perpetuating either bias places you firmly on the wrong side of history and further away from a world in which all humans evolve

i understand that it only creates confusion and misunderstanding but it's important to be inclusive of all genders and sexual orientations. no voice should have been silenced by the same queer community:)

as a member of lgbt community (on a personal note I like the acronym lgbtqia) and an advocate for trans issues and rights, i believe that it's important to amplify and stand up for all voices(including detransitioners) people who detransition need to be acknoweledged and be treated with more care
I genuinly felt it was nothing special. I was always waiting for something more which never came. Death of you…
have you watched the 1980's miniseries ? i don't know if it's because i grew up with the old version and triggers a happy memory of time but i believe it creates a more emotional impact
a beautiful piece of film that captures feelings. its quiet tone and natural conversations, the mundane settings use to convey profound meanings subtly yet impactfully.
final scene is pivotal, dying can enhance our lives in such a powerful way.
an absolutely bleak film that shows the cruel truth of our society and takes away all hope in this world. filled with powerhouse acting, has made my chest literally ache
by the end of the film, you’re left thinking that there's beauty in little things.we just have to open ourselves up to the extraordinary beauty hidden within the ordinary. it didn't go deep into character development as much as i'd wanted to but fulfilling the title in a profound way.

great screenplay by hamaguchi ryosuke who uses checkov's impactful lines to purge deep emotions.
