that's why I was taken aback when his identity was revealed and he showed up that she was very dismissive and kinda hostile towards him.

it seems pretty clear from how ep 28 ended; aunt xiao was gonna say she did it because of her husband. so I'm assuming the princess royal extorted her to kill JS's mother or she would ruin 2nd uncle's career or worse kill the entire jiang family lol. rinse and repeat present day with attempt to kill JS
