ok... I'm reading the web novel, never done so for other dramas, but I just can't wait for this one... but I've found I should treat the drama as separate from the webnovel
yes the events are similar, but the execution and all, the drama feels like if the webnovel was edited to remove or at least make the icks palatable/acceptable by modern societal standards...
and because of that, I can rest assured that the production will not go so far as to offend the general public, and yet stay true to the source
I still found the emotional scenes in the dram so heart-wrenching, so good job show!
I'm not a fan of historical dramas, and I hardly ever watch them. I tried watching this one because of Tian Xiwei,…
give it some months, because you'll be high on this that seeing the leads with different people might give you the ick, but I suggest ML's The Princess Royal (for the FL, New Life Begins)
if you can't stomach those yet, try The Prisoner of Beauty, oh you've watched that! ummm, then Youthful Glory or, this one I've found people either loved or hated: Love Like the Galaxy ----------
having watched my fair share of historical Cdramas, I can't say all are made as well as these... leads + support + story + production, the whole package really needs to have that perfect mix...
I've seen great actors brought down by storylines and vice versa, or sometimes the actors themselves, the chemistry is just not there
Someone already suggested Legend of the Female General, I second the motion, lol --- similarly, for that strong FL aura, A Journey to Love
oh, that sounds... extreme... I think, well , there is a line he says when he picks her up from town after she confronts the drunk meat shop guy, they were talking about how she got offered to collect debts by casinos, but here mom/dad said no, Yan Zheng said something along the lines of "go collect debts for casinos if you want" "don't listen to what other people say" anyway he phrased more beautifully and he was respectful to her parents--- so maybe the going to war won't be a huge contention
ok episode 7, the marquis' friend is here, he asks, who is Fan Changyu? Yan Zheng just fainted, so I am obliged to answer lol Fan Changyu is his (the Marquis') wife. He got married to an unknown girl from the hicks? Yes, not only that, she is a butcher. She is a butcher? Yes, not only is she a butcher, she is a great martial artist! What?? not only is she a great martial artist/butcher, she is the daughter of a general the marquis trained (and presumably admired as a child).... and he (the Marquis) not only admires the general, he loves the general's daughter wink-wink LOL
Hah! I know y'all are harping on how the story's morality is twisted, and yes, that is the case. But that's the point, isn't it? Not all stories are bright and happy, real life is seldom a walk in the park, right??
But actually... I’m skipping the scenes I can’t stomach and just here to brazenly watch Rui Chang. He definitely deserves more main lead roles, even if he seems to prefer choosing challenging, morally grey characters.
