I started then stopped. it was funny but then seemed meaningless
agreed, it was literally LOL at first, never have I guffawed so hard while watching a drama, Nan Heng incredulous faces were *magnificent* but then, the plot ate itself
watched eps 1-5, so far so good, supportive ML, smart but a bit dense in love FL, only caveat is...
they made the wonderful Li Dai Kun a heartless murderer TTTTTT ofc he ate the role, he's MAGNIFICENT as a villain, BUT DRAMA GODS can we have more Into Your Heart and less break my heart from LDK???
Having seen them as a perfect couple in Princess Royal, I came in with A LOT of expectations. Which is probably why I dropped this.
However, if you are a fan of the enduring childhood love, coming-of-age kind of tropes, plus you appreciate nuanced emotional scenes, then, this just might be for you.
My heart could not carry the burden though. I watch dramas to relieve stress, not to add stress in my life. But if you enjoy heartache and subsequent fulfillment, watch it by all means.
People harping on the FL, but I am not. In other dramas, she is ALWAYS a supporting character, but she finally gets her own ML here, and a WORTHY one at that. So I am utterly happy watching them being sweet, granted the twists were FACEPALM, but the sweetness and tension are still SOLID. --- her makeup and styling were distracting at times, but that's part of her characterization as bratty heiress, so within the character description. Plus, when she has vulnerable moments with the ML, her outfits, whether bold or toned down, suit her. The beath outfit started as glaring, but boy, does she pull it off at the night picnic scene.
Second lead syndrome and my hatred of amnesiaAmnesia is already one of my most hated forced-angst plot devices.…
the last para! LYF was built up as this powerful being, but then he's basically an errand boy who's easily manipulated... they got Jeremy to act as shifu, and he's got this dignity of an omnipotent being just by existing, but he's written more like a fool, so freakin ironic
Amnesia is already one of my most hated forced-angst plot devices. But now it rose up the ranks. How dare Yin Fan kill MY Tian Zhixie??? (CZ's not claiming him, I might as well!)
I used to care about the main couple, but now, ZH-QK is otp all the way. At this point, I can't imagine CZ ever forgiving shifu. Although... TZX was the same person who turned uncle into a demon, so CZ's forgiveness threshold is basically whatever.
Back to amnesia. For the most powerful immortal, LYF is pretty weak. I love that he has never been taken in by that "fake disciple" (great actress btw, I totally detest her character). But in all his years of cultivation, how could he not realize the gaps in his memory until my TZX had to die???
Yes, yes, tragic second leads are for us fans, so we can cheer on the couple without coveting the ML for ourselves (haha). This reverse harem is stacked with 2nd male leads, so I thought, wow ~ buffet.
But no, I'm just here getting secondhand heartbreak for Uncle, Senior Mu, and now Zhu Hao too? If even pristine noble Qin Ke has to suffer, I'm going to grill the writers and pour spicy vinegar over all their blisters.
I'm still at ep 34, and boy, am I ready to throw hands! If Senior Mu suffers the same fate as Uncle, I'll probably turn into a demon queen. He keeps saying "I'll always be here for you," and if that aint ominous, I'll eat my imaginary hat.
Much as I love Jeremy, the second leads are stealing the show (and Chong Zi, if girlie's thinking straight). I know shifu's powerful and all, but if the choice is shifu VS ZhiXie & ZhuHao-QinKe (otp tbh), Chong Zi, my queen, pick the harem.
I'm steering clear of reading comments til I watch it all, but I gotta vent now. Also feeling that I might need to vent more once this all ends.
I've got one question. Is the FL annoying? Coz honestly that is a big turn-off for me. I don't know why but even…
watched this and got hooked on Jeremy Tsui, the FL's smart and not cringey, among the many cdramas, her character's quite refreshing compared to the cheerful/pouty variants
brutal senior mu vs possessive shifu, can't decide which one is better, this drama has always been reverse harem, with shifu-uncle-qinke-zhuhao and now senior mu and the demon king officially in the fold too
among all the 2nd leads, tian zhixie is my fave, sure chongzi was great with wanjie too, but he was more like an older brother (and he got a wife)... I thought tian zhixie was also kind of a big brother figure, but seeing as he skewered zhuhao after the hug, that just might not be the case...
shifu's crazy side has always been hinted at and intensified by the hear poison now, but senior mu's crazy is now in plain sight, and I'm reveling in it, he's like a rabid dog who'll pounce now apologize later but with more suave than any mongrel...perhaps my kink is crazy, anyway....
so, maybe because it's cz 2nd life that she kind of swept tian zhixie's manipulation of chu bufu under the rug... but, my question is, did uncle already know that senior mu = tian zhixie, and if he did, does it make sense that he never told anyone in the immortal sect about it?
im currently at ep11 n I happened to saw clips of her turning demonic n wanting to kill the immortal clan. kinda…
not sure if she turns back to pure n kind, but actually rooting for her to embrace more of her dark side... apparently if they follow the original source (haven't read it) there will be a happy ending
Yh when watching these things you shouldn't impose modern values of morality on them because the world of immortals…
I've always thought that the first incarnation was more natural, like a student getting a crush on her teacher, and her master on the verge of acknowledging both their feelings... the fl was more childlike, but I didn't really see that as grooming, some people are just you know, naturally innocent and naive, at least at one point in life, unlike others, I wasn't really asking for "more romance" it's a slow-burn after all... in her 2nd life though, I know master has been restraining his feelings and everything, but only he knew of their history, so he could manipulate Wen Zi/Chong Zi even unconsciously, it gratifies me when in ep 27 Chong Zi finally stands her ground and says he must go to her instead of him keeping her close and 'protected'--- now that CZ's embracing her 'dark side'--- I'm just looking forward to how they'll resolve the romance, also fine if they don't... rather than the romance, the portrayal of good/evil white/black is interesting, it's like a discourse on human nature, but in cdrama form (oh and, at this point qin ke-zhou hao is otp level haha)

and yes! let's start a harem for Tian Zhixie!!!
