it's been a while since I read the novel, but it is very different, the main characters are similar but the story and how it's told, it's like they skipped some chapters or rearranged them, added some subplots, removed some details... like throw the elements of the drama into a blender, sift through the mixture, and add garnishes--- better to treat them as different stories with characters sharing same names

because he IS immature, it's part of this character's personality, thing is, he is consistently immature, which is props to writers--- he also acts as the foil to our mature ML, but that is too much dissection of the writers' characterizations lol

oh this! more interesting in the 2nd half! yes! so few dramas can qualify

he is well-written, right?? he has character development, but then they manage to keep him consistent in his traits... and strangely enough, in Ye Xian's case, consistent means volatility lol---- I think most of the characters are well-written, except that it is definitely operating under the haze of reverse harem, like the center of the men's lives is our FL, not realistic, but we are here for the drama not the realism 🤣🤣

in all fairness, she understands why Ye Xian lashes out, because our FL is temperamental and prone to fighting others as well, just that she is much more calculating than Ye Xian who is more unrestrained

but the cinematography in the veil inside carriage kiss scene, it might have been a non-kiss, but the cinematography, the colors and angles, chef's kiss

I think that relationship would only work if Yanyun is killed off lol, that sly schemer---- because even if took longer for Yanyun to have developed/realized his feelings for FL, if she had married someone else by then, with some maneuvering, our Yanyun would have been plunged into this villain era, again, but that is a different drama altogether 😉

in my understanding, yes, marrying him would have had benefits, Ji family are merchants, Gu are a bit higher in the social strata being lower tier officials, Chen is definitely elite type, she need not have married Yanyun, any association with the Chen's would have been an immediate boost in respectability--- plus at that time, she liked him, and to her, marrying someone she likes/approves of is quite beneficial
