I was hooked on this show until episode 25 when the writing unfortunately fell back on typical CDrama tropes.…
to be fair, the web novel's ending is also tied up prettily, like yup, ML is Wei Yan 2.0 but nice version, happily ever after lalala but at least there was more substance (as in the battles were brutal) before the idealized ending, in the drama, yeah, same I started getting antsy at ep 25
FCY's characterization in the drama is not consistent. She's either super cheerful and blithely ignorant or deadly…
the actress, unfortunately, I think she's getting typecasted into "the cheerful type" (maybe because of previous projects) and the FL isn't supposed to be that, yeah, she should have been portrayed with more gravitas, which was how it was in the village, but afterwards, well... we've talked about that lol---- not saying it's the actress's fault, she's capable, at least at the start we see that, but the drama lost it's way
The plot wasn't progressing and not enough episodes are left so everything starts becoming weird from Ep.28
people who haven't read the novel seem to be fine, but I was so excited and the eps weren't coming fast enough, I just had to devour the novel midway, and this was the first time I've ever read a drama's web novel, and now I wish I had the strength to wait... maybe watching it as is, ignorant of the source, would have made it much more palatable--- quick question, this or The Princess Royal?

so true~ I was really looking forward to the generals' dynamics, but they killed general tang so early, and that was my first bad omen, like what happened??? the only convincing rival, even though it was short was general He's disciple and we didn't even get the kabedon scene, spoilsports

I started calculating around ep 25, like this is more than halfway and we're not even a quarter into the story, then I thought it would be like LLTG, divided into 2 seasons, but when I found it wasn't, I was like, the eps and story aint mathing
I love Miles Wei in modern dramas more than in historic ones. I think suits him better.
this! if Miles Wei is in it, I watch lol and I've noticed the same thing, he looks out of place in a historical... it's a bit better when he's a supporting character in a historical, but even then his face is just too modern somehow
Okay about this royal princess and ML's betrothment, we were told it was officially cancelled, after ML rejected…
same confusion, I had to re-orient myself that in this drama, Princess and Li were engaged, I totally forgot because I read the web novel in the middle of airing
Sadly they really are rushing the last episodes, and will now make LingAn arc look unnecessarily long at the expense…
My precious war scenes were cut! But they made the sweet scenes more tasteful than in the web novel, so there's that. Xie Wu also didn't suffer as much, so that was a relief.
It's good... the visual is there, the color scheme suited for its scenes, and the fighting choreography. But there's…
yes, I was expecting larger hammers, and wasn't Shi Hu on a horse at the start? ah! Centurion Guo! I was thinking something was missing, it's him, he's not mentioned at all
