zero predictability, fast paced. Psychological thrillers are not everyone's thing though, it's not for the kids.

Today 1/3 or more of new Viki offerings are BL so I think the women's rights issue is more in line with what sageuk writers and makers have originally intended to convey. Of course it's okay to watch these things from today's viewpoints too and read them as hidden BL/GL dramas. But with so many overt BL/GL dramas I prefer to read them in the historical frame.

Women dressed as men appear in so many fusion sageuks that it's nothing out of the ordinary. Sungkyungwan Scandal (2011) is one of the older ones. In none of these dramas did the actress really look like a man. I think the reason for this drama driver is not only to amuse but also to offer food for thought about the confined possibilities of women. In Joseon particularly women of higher classes had very limited possibilities to participate in the society. Sungkyungwan and scholarship was for men only, for instance. Maybe not everything has changed when it comes to women's role and tasks, even today.

Bad timing, almost simultaneously out with My Dearest. I find it unfortunate that this one has the same historical timing without being historically accurate. My Dearest was based on real historical events and this one is fiction but perhaps inspired by historical events. I don't know why we had to go to Shenyang again only to stay there for 5 minutes. It's disturbing to me to know all ways in which Captivating the King is not in line with actual history and the ways in which it is. The paranoid king, which is not King Injo, the hostage, which is not King Injo's son, the fate of the people sent to Qing, etc.

The story was good and the FLs were excellent but I thought he sucked in it lol

Seong Jun and Sang Min sitting on the floor after airing their grievances was priceless. The actors were excellent all around. Ryu Kyung Soo was damn impressive. (If you liked this drama, I'd recommend Confession).

excellent psychological thriller. I binged this in 2 days, there was that much pull and intensity. Not much gore, which I like. No filler scenes, no boring moments. The last episodes had some slapstick humour, my cup of tea exactly. 9.5/10.

This would have been so much better without the 2nd couple. Nana and JDY chemistry was fantastic.

I lost interest, and feel this one is quickly going downhill just like Love in Contract. How are they going to have enough material for 16 episodes? MLs behavior is a bit questionable, borderline obsessive. FL is not someone I want to care for and protect anymore bc the hugely expensive looking dresses being so irrealistic for the office work lol. This may well be just my problem, but PMY is still looking badly underweight to me and it just makes me feel uncomfortable. Will she be a role model for young girls? Is this considered a beauty standard? I can't get rid of these kind of thoughts. I'm all on her side when it comes to real life issues.

Ep 9 was so good. I kinda feel sorry for those who haven't discovered this yet. Uniquely charming drama, with immensely well written dialogues. Funny and heartwarming. It's 9.5/10 for me.

A very strong start. Can't wait for next episodes! Pls people avoid giving spoilers at all cost. The charm of the drama is in the mystery.

Very sad. How can people be that cruel. Is this even realistic? I don't know but the role of bystanders is highlighted, which is a good choice for an angle. Well worth watching.

Disgusting how some people keep bringing up unproven accusations against Lee Sun Kyun when the industry has finally come together and stands up for celebrities' human rights. I feel like that person is murdering LSK all over again. These are the kinds of accusations that fortunately today land keyboard warriors defamation lawsuits and in severe cases they do not get just fines but actual jail time.

Why would he or anyone else be wary of criticisms from Japan? History needs to be known. It was a gift that we got the first 4 episodes for Xmas hols.

What a great thing to do. This is finally a ray of light. Hope that Lee Sun Kyun Act becomes real. It's high time.
