Pity about the rating but it doesn’t stop me from enjoying it . Pity that people don’t recognize the efforts…
Right! I am enjoying this so bad. Only on episode 5 and don't see any problem unless it was the producers/directors fault because casting it doing hell of a job. For her to be so young and portray such strong emotions isn't easy.
There are very few sequels in cdrama that goes unscathed.
100% if this was S+ cast with more known actors/actresses, I bet nobody would say anything and rate it a 10/10. Like I've seen people outright harshly criticizing Li Yun Rui acting and Huanyang Tian Tian, and they are only getting this treatment because they are the leads.
I gave this drama an 8.0 rating, mainly because I genuinely enjoyed the first half, especially the Thailand storyline.
The actor who played Jin Zhao did an amazing job. This honestly felt like his breakthrough for both international and domestic audiences, and I love that for him. However, for some reason, he doesn’t receive the praise he deserves because of Esther Yu’s fans. He didn’t become popular because of her, he gained attention because of his range and talent. But somehow they made it about her.
To me, Jiang Mu was not the strongest character. She honestly felt like a side character because Jin Zhao overshadowed her so much. Also, her character was tolerable, so I didn’t fully dislike or like Jiang Mu. I feel like if anyone else had played Jiang Mu, I would probably feel the same way. So it definitely has nothing to do with the actress, the character itself just lacks charm.

Thats why they rewrote the whole script. I read they removed the rebirth plot and aged up the FL. I know MZ fans…
yeah they screwed up w this one, idc how many ppl try to convince me, Meng Ziyi still looks older 😭 no where near giving youthful sweet vibes too me and I can’t even imagine her playing such a young playful role but hey the cast directors know best.
And Dylan Wang ain’t any better, I prefer him in modern dramas, he looks so unappealing in historical because of how modern his features are. Although he’s handsome, I also don’t think he’s as handsome as the novel said.
Genuinely, who's the villain in this storyline? Like every episode my answer changes, and I love that tbh. But who else thinks the black mask man is one of the six sects and not from the demonic sects? As much as I like Lord Qi, I'm having a bad feeling about him. I think it's because of the woman he loved, Cai Pingshu, feel in love with someone from the demonic sect, and he doesn't want Cai Zhao going down that same road as her aunt, trusting someone from the demonic sect.
They’ve been milking Zhao Lusi’s name for this drama for about two years, just for a new rumor to come out saying Yu Shuxin and Zhang Linghe might be the main leads.
No disrespect to either of them, but I genuinely don’t want to see them in this project… nor do I like their dynamic. Even though they’ve been in two dramas together, their chemistry still isn’t strong enough for me. Its giving recycle pairing…and it not a good look for either of them.
I’d rather see Dai Luwa and Zhang Linghe instead, if it’s not going to be Zhao Lusi and Song Weilong.

classic, rewriting the script just to fit the actress/ actor. I fear this drama isnt going to be good 😭and they don’t even do remakes of cdramas, such a waste that actually js irritated me.
Shen Miao, is supposed to look cute and youthful looking if I can remember. She also has this mature and cold elegance about her too. Another thing, is that they need someone who can act like a child than later on become a women—mature. So important to find someone who has a versatile face.
My top 3 pick would’ve been: Zhao Lusi, Song Zuer, or Tian Xi Wei
With all due respect, I don’t think people are hating on this drama for no reason. The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage is one of the most loved and popular novels in China, so expectations are naturally very high.
Dylan Wang and Meng Ziyi are both good actors, but this role needed more precise casting. Right now, neither of them really fits the characters from the novel.
It’s not about hating—it’s just about fit, and when a story is this beloved, casting matters a lot.
