The tricky part in this particular situation is that nothing he is being accused of would have been illegal at that time in S. Korea. This in truth is about what constitutes ethics and if it is ok for an adult man to prep (groom) an early pubescent young lady (which is evidenced by the tone of the military letter) and proceeded to date her right after his military time. Because it is a question of ethics and abuse of a minor outside of legal parameters, it is imperative that we as beneficiaries of this artist make an informed decision for ourselves as to where we draw the line.

That’s right. Odd. Inappropriate for sure, but not a sweet love letter. It was with the post card that we first know for sure they were dating, when he said “I love you”. This was a few weeks after his release from the military, during which he also took a trip to the U.S. Strange timing as well. The postcard is the timing the agency chose as the beginning of their dating phase.
What we do know about that letter is that there was a “relationship”, though we don’t know the nature. It is far from definitive “proof”, though much can be suspected. Given the tone, close-ness and the fact that they dated right after the military period, it does point to grooming. While assuming that tone of relating may be seen as unethical, problematic and emotionally destabilizing to an early pubescent young woman, I have yet to see anything that makes it illegal in Korea, at that time. (Which doesn’t make it right.)

I 💯 do not support cyber hazing, and hate lists, regardless of how I may disagree with certain people. If someone is sending death threats or these kinds of things in the pm’s they need to be blocked and reported, certainly.
I want to add that i am informed, have a clear opinion (completely against child abuse and grooming, see clear implication in this case) and simultaneously do not wish to engage in polarizing behavior online that leads to more harm through veil of anonymity.

This seems to not be uncommon in the culture given the age gaps in the dramas, which always nauseate me. I also noticed one of my favorite kactors recently married an adult twenty years younger than him. The issue is if a person makes such comments, then engages in inappropriate relationship with a minor (ie army letter) and then dates that person (let’s assume when they were an adult for sake of argument), it points to at the very least grooming of a minor, ie emotional manipulation using power dynamics on an early pubescent child, not even looking at the fact that they knew each other since she was 13.
Now, I believe it’s important we don’t devolve as humans to get our point across online, it does nothing for our “cause” anyway, whatever that may be.
In the case of this post the intention was a bit hazy when i read it. On the one hand there was a desire to stay vigilant and not take sides, but then offered “evidence” from only one side of the narrative, stirring the pot of people that have been busy researching and are highly activated by abuse dynamics, some of which may have personal reasons to be triggered. If we want to speak to “evidence” we need to come informed and aware of what is currently available to the public, discerning through the false claims. This is time consuming, but important if we want to engage the discourse at this level and be truly heard.
I would like to support your main point of not sinking into personal attacks and cyber hazing to prove a point. Perhaps the evidence pointing towards how “both sides” are doing this, and why it’s harmful, would have been stronger than mixing it up with one side of the story in the midst of the controversy.
