I waited for this drama with deep anticipation as a fan of the Hong Sisters. What I LOVE about them is their capacity to create rich fantastical world for their characters to occupy, full of metaphor and meaning. In this instance, the psychological inner world of Mu Hui took that place in the narrative, inside of an otherwise very mundane world. This psychological landscape, however, was neither innovative, fantastical, rich, and neither did it lean on realism. While it added depth to our FL, there was nothing that could not have been accomplished through character development in the otherwise real world. Further, it felt incomplete in what it aimed to accomplish, relying on an external plot at the end of the 12th episode that we never find out how it ended. It feels to me like this time the Hobg Sisters tried to play it safe for the international Netflix audience and neither achieved their usual artistic brilliance, nor psychological intrigue. I am certainly disappointed.
Positive points, Stunning Visuals. Go Youn Jung was wonderful, a bright portrayal of our Mu Hui. Fukushima Sota as Hiro also brought in a wonderful arc to his character portrayal. Kim Seon Ho as Ho Jin did excellent work with the language, but it was average or even below average performance. I did like the chemistry of our leads, however, it was sweet.
Worth watching if you’re a Hong Sisters fan, and as always form your own opinion.
Remember when people complained the body switching in moon river served no plot purpose before watching all of…
for me personally moon river worked, and this one I was just so invested in characters as they were, would have had more than enough intrigue to continue the story from there. and will miss some of the simple human elements of connecting, without the layer of body swap.
still, I’m along for the ride, very curious, and have enjoyed all four episodes so far. 😅
He did some chasing. He went to the farm looking for her.
haha, I think you misunderstood me. first, the og post said FL, and you wrote about ML. I was pointing that out. as far as the chasing, he was the one chasing her in the relationship, while she protected him, sometimes by running away (not chasing). doesn’t mean she didn’t care for him 💯 the whole time 😅
yea, i got that. that’s fair. while i really liked her portrayal, i was dismayed by the writing of her character and her development arc overall. she was written to be smart on one hand, yet continuously making poor choices. to me, the acting choice to deal with this paradox was to play into her innocence, which i can understand.
because its gorgeous and she deserves an award for her performance. her co-star did receive one and it is one of my all time favorite works of art. i thought that since you were cementing your thoughts on her as an actor you may have seen that work, which took my breath away more than once.
