Apparently the kiss scene at the birthday party, which was filmed as a reciprocal kiss, between the leads was cut during the license review process. It was supposed to be a pivotal moment in that the FL lead returns the ML's kiss. What we see on-screen instead became a force kiss rather than a sweet moment. Arghhhhhhh

I'm glad it's finally getting noticed. There wasn't any promotion at all when it aired 1/20. Just a few announcements on the official Webio page and some of the main casts. Tencent didn't even make posters or advertise on their site too. Now that the show is picking up viewers Tencent finally start posting something. I guess it's better than nothing.

Let's say put it this way. Assuming that the ML doesn't know her being a spy (which is untrue, based on the novel) and her being just a normal governess. ML is in love and right now unrequited. His father just unilaterally announced his engagement in front of their guests and then he caught another guy kissing the woman he loves. His behavior might be rash but to him, I think, given the circumstances it might be the only way, albeit not the best way, to let the FL know he is sincere about her and will work out everything. You can say this is his last chance before someone snatches her away. Since ep 8, he's been honest to her about his feelings. For her, having lived in his house for a while now knows how ML's father and family are like to ML. They seem to understand each other from their various interactions with each other. Of course, she has the right to reject him too. However, from all that's built up to this moment there's really no best way to convince her otherwise, as she's always been resistant to his confession.

No, having read the novel I have to disagree on your assessment of the ML and him being led easily by FL. He may love the FL but that doesn't mean he has to abandoned his family for her. Nor will he turn a blind eye to his father's shady business either. Having said that, from the first episode to the latest ep 16, his action has always been measured so for him to suddenly turn coward and easily be led is not in character.

Since we audiences have God like view of the characters why do we analyze the leads relationship based on typical love drama. FL has her agenda, she's not willing and freely able to love while he is still in the dark about her mission. At the same time there's pressure from his father. Don't forget his father is still head of household and does have the power to make FL disappear. Guess you forgot ML conversation he had with his dad? ML doesn't have power and cannot do anything at the moment, the best strategy for him is to retreat and reassess the situation. We've seen how cunning he is when he's able to manipulate his father to give up the opium dens.

You have to consider they are two different characters with very different background. You can't equate Ou XiaoJian to Rong JiaShang. OXJ is very expressive character while RJS is the opposite. Watch it without precondition. If you dont enjoy his performance don't force it.

I'm a bit puzzle. His character is supposed to be cold, arrogant and aloof based on his background. Just got out of military school, the eldest son with a lot of responsibility pushed to him, his family doesn't care about him. So, is he supposed to be happy or easy going? 😕 Read his micro facial expression not just read the Eng sub. He will be "ok" beginning the episode 3.

There will be side stories but more or less the focus is on the main couple.

You'll find out later she's his step mother. His mother was the first wife. Yes, her plan doesn't seem to go according to plan. She didnt take into account Rong JiaShang.

I love ZhouZhou's performance in this drama. Cannot wait to see the next parts.

I think the King will make small appearance but will not dominate screen time like the first one. Prequel was horrendous, scriptwriter basically kill the original work to dumb down everything.

She'll be angry but as she doesn't have feelings for the sml additionally she works for him (workplace harassment right here) she'll continue with her spy work.

The leads kiss in ep8 when he confessed to her under the tree. The kiss in the trailer for this week (VIP) is to get the ML moving so they can continue with the revenge plan.
