I have mostly seen Wang You Shuo play saintly characters, which he does well btw. However, here he played CGH really well. CGH's transformation from a goody two shoes general to a demented man gone absolutely bonkers was a treat to watch.
I love TPOB to bits, but the fight choreography in that drama was a huge letdown. In this drama, the fight choreography was so beautiful, especially in the final few episodes. So, one of my theories turned out to be true. NF had indeed transmigrated. I thought it was a curious detail that they show NF's eyes closed as he is getting his makeup done. At first his annoyance at SXY taking his sunglasses off threw me off. I think NF had previously assumed his very peculiar dream to be a figment of his imagination. However, upon seeing SXY's quite visceral reaction to his indifference made him realise that they had both lived as SYM and NH respectively. Also, both the historical and modern world portions were scripts. The female scriptwriter belongs to the actual real world and the script within a script is her original creation. I guess this was done to pass censorship.
Schedule last episode photo is black sunglasses. NF didnt put sunglasses down in first episode. OMG...
This had seemed odd to me too but I have come across people in real life who wear sunglasses indoors and inside cars and are absolutely insufferable. So, I assumed they were playing into his insufferable attitude.
Its a fantasy romcom and not a suspense thriller for it to concentrate of that aspect. Queerbaiting? In that sense…
Preach! The west has absolutely destroyed the understanding of male friendships. Two men can be tactile with each other to express their bond/brotherhood without being gay and two men can be together romantically without PDA. SMH at the silly stereotypes.
Check the endings of Chinese dramas recently, you will have your answer! π€£
I meant look at the endings of other dramas from China that have recently concluded. Many of them have very dissatisfactory endings. Hence, I feel that this plot point is a comment on how scriptwriters change the drama ending of novel adaptations to an open or a sad one one inspite of the story ending happily in the novel.
Whoβs rewatching while waiting for the end? I rewatched ep 1 and 32 wedding procession scenes - amazing how…
Me! The wedding and the three-way-stabbing scenes have actually ended up being so iconic! The BGM and the song placement are so well done. Tbh, I felt apprehensive when it was announced that this drama is going to have 40 episodes and had totally expected it to derail halfway. The stunningly strong pilot and the equally strong subsequent episodes hadn't allayed my fears. I so hope they stick the landing.
THIS! I went back to watch the iconic 3-way stabbing scene and modern CGH (he is pissing me off in recent episodes,…
Exactly! She had grown to care for the Song Family like they were real people stemming from her own desire to have grown up with her parents. So true! If you consider Hollywood, this phenomenon happens so often! Some of the child actors I grew up with, either want nothing to do with showbiz or are stuck doing supporting roles. If you are familiar with the show Malcolm in the Middle, the three child actors who were a huge part of the show's success, went onto pursue different careers as adults.
Omg literally did the same thing after watching the latest episode! That look NF gave SXY definitely (hopefully)…
The SML seemed a little bit of a people pleaser, ngl. I feel you on the "lazy" part. Common folks like us have to work to the bone. π I don't know if any of my theories would be proven right. π I'm hoping for a decent enough finale with a happy ending, no matter how ludicrous.

Did you notice how there was a slight flicker of annoyance on the SML's face during the meeting? But then who in that room wasn't annoyed by NF's attitude?! Also, the huge support staff he absolutely cannot do without? Probably a foreshadowing of how NH has his own crew of helpers. *cough* Nightwalkers *cough* Honestly, I don't know anymore. π I had come up with another theory a couple of hours ago which I had written here. I'll just copy and paste it here. (I haven't been this obsessed with coming up with possible theories since Lovely Runner.) What's a CDrama without a childhood connection trope? π What if Nan Feng and Song Xiao Yu had already met as children? NH as LSL protected her from the fire both due to the mechanism of the script and because he genuinely wanted to. What if the fire that took away SXY's parents also somehow involved NF? In the first episode, her manager told her that the only reason she got to star as the female lead was because presumably no big female star was willing to star opposite NF due to him being difficult to work with. What if it had been made to seem that way? NF is a big star and for the right price perhaps he could have gotten someone of "equal" stature to star opposite him. What if NF had a role to play in pulling some strings and casting her? Also, she was a former child actress. So, there's a possibility that little NF fell for her then. It may be that NF's already existing feelings for SXY are magnified when within the script as NH because NH fell for SXY the actress and not SYM the original fictional FL.

Great minds think alike! π Exactly! That meeting is both meta-commentary and foreshadowing of what's to happen in the last few episodes. I remember thinking that it was absolutely hilarious to have LYN's character, NF, be such an arse.
