On Lesson in Murder Jun 11, 2023
I've heard stories about people getting up and leaving, because the movie was too disturbing, but this is the first time, I've witnessed it myself. And it wasn't just one or two people, it was more close to 10. I do understand why some wouldn't be able to stomach it, because this is a very dark and disturbing ride.

From the very beginning the viewer is subjected to some extremely horrifying scenes. Usually, I can handle a lot, but those scenes had me squirming in my seat. For the most part this story is more psychological dark, but it's the kind of darkness, where any inch of humanity is not welcome. I think, it's important to have this in mind, before going in.

While I found the premise very intriguing, I thought the whole setup fizzled out during the last part, and I didn't care at all for the introduction of the "girlfriend". Deftly handled cinematography and strong acting from Abe Sadawo in particular unfortunately couldn't carry this movie alone, and I left the theater feeling underwhelmed.

Literally, the movie started out so suspenseful and thrilling but when we got to the murder part it made no sense.…
Exactly. We went from "sorry, I'm leaving" to havoc, and no one knows how and why.

looking forward to this one
Unfortunately, no. I had the same feeling, only with the taller one. I've been trying to find these actors from their listing on Gagaoolala (An Jae Hyeon & Moon So Woong). My guess is, this is their first or one of few appearances/works.

I was vibing along with these Restart After Come Back Home parallels and was thinking: "all he needs to do now, is get this guy to pick some fruit very badly", and then the preview shows him manhandling strawberries. 😁

What a nice couple of episodes. I'll show up for these slice-of-life, healing, rural setting dramas every time, however similar they may be. The guys' dynamic is fun and entertaining right off the bat, and Yechan is adorable. I'm interested in finding out, what goes on behind that chipper facade, seeing how Sun Yeol's words visibly affected him.

But....I'm already suffering due to the short running time. It's comfortable and nice in this drama world. I want to stay there longer.

And Coldin just keeps releasing one strong OST after the other: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgpqJQMaSVE

I feel so much for Ji Woo and understand why he's acting the way he is, how much he's keeping it all in, how painful…
Ji Woo was already getting there on his own before he found the phone, but I think, he would have let Seo Joon slip away, had he not seen the messages. They were the push, that finally got him moving. And I think, if Seo Yoon had done, what most people would've and cursed him out in some of those messages (or to his face), Ji Woo would've withdrawn behind his walls again to continue his silent suffering.

Seo Yoon was really the catalyst in their relationship until the last confrontation, when we at last (!!!) got to see Ji Woo come to Seo Yoon. Emotionally and physically by walking across his floor and grabbing his shirt. I loved that parallel to season 1. That whole scene was so moving, even though Ji Woo kinda sounded like a kid, but the walls were at least gone. And I liked, how he was honest about not being able to try again and again, if Seo Yoon continued to push him away.

Seo Yoon may have looked like a pushover, but he was the strongest of the two. And yeah, I don't think anyone like Seo Yoon exists either, or they're as rare as they get. I mean, not even removing the guy's toothbrush for a full year after he did a "Sex & The City" on him, and broke up on a post-it, that's something else.

It's really a show/movie to be watched at least twice. The way the story unfolds with the viewer not getting to see Ji Woo's side of things and how lost and lonely he was in the relationship until halfway through, it's easy to miss out on all the cues and scenes showing how broken Ji Woo is over having left Seo Yoon. And they're there almost from the beginning.

I wonder, what would've happened, if Seo Yoon had not spotted his shirt on Ji Woo's bed by chance. And I wonder, if Seo Yoon will ever be able to fully trust Ji Woo again and be relaxed in the relationship. They're adorable together and my favourite couple, but they still have a long way to go and a LOT of work to do.

(Yes, I've watched this series....a few times....) 🤣😳

If you're picking this show based on the number of episodes and that cute poster, expecting something light and quick, you're in for a surprise. This is slow-moving, emotional slice-of-life and then some. Be patient, because it takes 30-45 minutes before the show hits its stride, but if you've stuck around that long, the remaining episodes are quite absorbing and touching.

Sota handles the main role well and is able to convey the quirks of his character without going overboard. Obviously, the story revolves around Ichito, but it's mainly because of every other character and how they connect to him, that he becomes interesting and engaging.

While the show revolves around compassion, connection and humanity, it also spotlights real issues and concerns about health care and how medical professionals often get stuck between their responsiblities towards their patients, their personal lives and being part of an imperfect health care system.

Overall a great watch, but grab some tissues (and lots of them) before going in.

Just....wow. Every new episode seems to try to outshine the previous one, that was already incredibly satisfying. The dialogue and acting is extremely moving and tender. I keep catching myself crying for no apparent reason. I'm trying to recall another show, where I cared this much for the characters and their well-being.

Everyone is excellent, but Hiroki Iijima really is something else. He had the same empathetic, warm demeanour in Bentoya-san no Omotenashi, and I wouldn't mind him spending a couple of years of his career being typecast in this kind of wholesome, comforting role.

Definitely one of the best series of 2023 right here. ❤️

lol, as a major fan of "Eternal Summer" (it's #4 on my top gay feature films list), I have to say I'm appalled…
Good thing I didn't then.
But it IS a really good movie, you're right about that part.

I had this show on hold for so long, since the first subber had to drop the project, that I forgot, how much I enjoyed it. Luckily another picked it up again, and I'm so, so appreciative of it. Yay for fansubbers! ❤️

The Ken/Ryo combo with their expressive eyes is something else. Whenever these mushy men get teary-eyed (which is every 5 minutes)....I just can't. Plus I forgot, Takasugi Mahiro is in this too. But this is definitely Ryo Yoshizawa's stage and he shines on it.

Title Star Struck Spoiler
The core issue is reminding me of the Taiwanese movie Eternal Summer (sans the girl in the middle). Check it out - it's really good!

Yoo Jae is so push and pull. However, it's clear he doesn't want to lose Han Yoon and the months apart hurt him. In the movie one character ends up doing something, that changes the whole dynamic, seemingly more out of desperation, than love/desire, and I'm getting the same vibes from Yoo Jae. Is he initiating things - like that kiss - because he has feelings for him or because Han Yoon keeps throwing these ultimatums in his face? He's so territorial towards Han Joon, who on the other hand is still in love, but seems happy and relaxed. Yoo Jae looks completely on edge and terrified, because his friend might actually disappear for good, if he doesn't act. I'm a little surprised by all the free passes Han Joon gave him, because he was being pretty disrespectful.

I'm aware this will end happy with Yoo Jae realizing his feelings and how to better express them instead of throwing that chocolate box away (WTF, dude. Again!). But with this slice-of-life vibe and less bright and shiny characters, I'd be into a more ambiguous ending. And I wouldn't mind this being mainly about these two close friends figuring out how to not drift apart, because one is in love, while the other isn't.

(I had completely forgotten Zuho is an idol until that karaoke scene, where a couple of girls looked like they were about to pull out some light sticks).

I am not sure if u liked them or just insulted them🤔
I like them, but I thought they were unnecessary for a long time, since the town is packed with eccentric folks already. So "clown" is a compliment. Sam Sik is the biggest clown in the entire show, and he's one of my favourite characters. 😊

I fought so hard to not fall for the whole shtick with the Men in Black salad duo, but that scene in the car, when 1st clown is yelling at 2nd clown to NOT stop for the 3rd clown, did me in. 🤣
They won.

I'm so bummed, this was the BL, Kim Yoo Hwan ended up being in, because his acting is good, and he deserved a much better plot and more screen time to flaunt these skills.

It all started with Ichika being open about her feelings but then took it back shortly after. Amane got disappointed…
Oh, interesting! I didn't notice this at all and will now have to look for this, when I rewatch the show. I love these kinds of details, so thank you for bringing this to my attention. The show highlighted and discussed gender roles in such a clever way, that it wasn't really until the later episodes, that it really dawned on me, how characters and events had been put into play to support this agenda. Maybe I was too focused on the food and the subtle romance to get the obvious clue.

Of course Ichika was the main event in that regard seeing as her whole story revolved around pushing against gender roles and how it limited her life and dreams, but Amane was not just a piece in her game. He'd been portraying a progressive view on gender norms though actions and words the entire show, but he really hit it home in episode 10.

I loved how casual he was about it too. Like the age gap - he wasn't the least "embarrased" to show off his older wife to his school buddies or how he did the dishes as his way of helping her and didn't even think about it being "a woman's job" - it was just one of the things, he knew how to do in a kitchen. And at the end when Ichika told him, she could run the restaurant alone and he was no longer needed. He wasn't hurt about being dismissed as a "man" by an independant woman, but because he loved her and didn't want to lose her. He was so gentle and respectful towards her, I felt for him, whenever he reached out and she withdrew.

I'm so with you here. I adored him as a character too and was thinking many times throughout the show, how the world needs more people like him (and please drop one off on my doorstep). :)
