Yeah. It is sad that almost literally the only thing that comes out of Chinese dramaland anymore is idol dramas - the lowest common denominator for teen and early twenties girls.

I feel like a lot of writing in recent Cdramas is... procedurally generated. They only generate one scene or setting after the other, with barely any coherence or storyline holding it together. So "scene where badass assassin bleeds in the snow, sounds good" then "jealous love rival" sounds good, "surreal spirit world with gothic clothing" sounds good, "ancient immortal spirit and innocent young lover" sounds good... no matter that the "young lover" was "crazy blood soaked assassin" just a few episodes ago. Who remembers that, between their bouts of doomscrolling and watching other drama? That seems the way they think. Sucks

I always took it to mean that to her he had an air of a young animal. "Bushy tailed". Lively, confident and possibly fleeting.

I do think they are human souls. They are human souls, chained to the obsession they had during life. They can move on after all if they want to, with IMO heavy implication that they will be reborn. Think of the soldier who was guading that pond

I found that smell and touch thing the boring low point in the series, personally. But I skip and fast forward through any number of scenes with just about any Cdrama, this one included

I liked the acting of the forced kiss scene... DX seems possibly pleased, then notices her cold and strange behavior and tries to turn away. But Simu clutches his head and so he gives a look of injured resignation and longing. All with only one eye visible.

You make good points. I also was taken aback but intrigued by her 22 lovers (I read the novel). I also assumed that they were exceptional men and in the novel she sounds as if she loved them! But in the novel she says their face are fading from her memory... Anyway. What makes DX special? You know how I answered that question? Nothing is REALLY so special about him: She just loves him most of them all. Not because he is a greater hero, or more devoted or more powerful. She just likes him most of all, its all her whim or mood or taste and not really about him.

Are you sure it's not all these cdrama running into each other? This is not the most unoriginal drama but its also not the most original... maybe every shot reminds you a fraction of every other fantasy drama....

I wanted to comment on chemistry as well. I feel that chemistry is subjective, except when its absolutely, mindbogglingly extreme. Which is very rare... otherwise it's a thing you feel or you don't feel, and you can't explain it either. And it's not obvious things either. The touch of little fingers can be infused with chemistry, as can a makeout session. And here, I think the chemistry is medium strong... and therefor it makes no real sense to try and talk others in seeing or not seeing the chemistry in this couple... or any couple.
