I believe he is smart and pretty logical. but he sees the people close to him in a different light. zheng shu and lady yu luo are people he somewhat grew up with. also maybe because zheng shu took care of his mom while he was away majority of the time.

I rewatched the episodes and I noticed that wei yan didn’t expect wei shao and qiao man’s relationship to be close. like he thought his plan was solid to drive them apart but i think he’s rethinking his plan now

the moment I saw him say that no one harms his cousin, I felt that he has no intention on harming those who were/are good to him.

honestly I don’t think they are easily manipulated. more like they are trying to give him the benefit of doubt. qiao man is already cautious and dislikes his behavior towards her but she has no proof that he is up to something. as for wei shao, I think he knows something is going on but won’t attack directly unless their clan is at risk. but we will see what happens 😅
