On a metaphorical level, their relationships / ending are explained by the crystal ball too. XY and Jing are going…
Yes lol I have never been this interested in the mental workings behind the different individuals in any other xianxia so far.

If TSJ was the male lead, then nobody would question all the tropes TH used to show clearly, he is Xiaoyao's one…
Unfortunately this IP has not been translated officially into english. The known english version is done by a fan called koala? You have to ask around for the link because I read the chinese version.
Her translated version has some mistakes but it is the best version out there.

The novel is really much better, much 'meatier'... and in novel the amount of dialogue Jing says will really surprise you and you'll find out just how much the drama cut out and made him a 'silent' man LOL

In fact Jing has chunks of dialogue that can even rival Xiaoliu sometimes. 🤣 and after he got back together with Xiaoyao, he finally became the humorous and witty Master Qingqiu he was before - which was hardly evident in the drama.

S2 really dropped the ball in every aspect - from Cangxuan to Xiaoyao to Jing.

It definitely benefits the IP because cut and dried stories without controversial ships don't perform as well...
Apparently the novel fans have argued about this for the past decade... so this MDL page is just a little taste of how things had been online in China..

When there is fanwars, there is engagement and 'heat'.
Even complaints or cursing during the drama viewer as 'screen comments' are now lauded as a big breakthrough record... since they don't care about good or bad comments.

I think modern day marketing really don't mind negativity or scolding. What they are afraid of is, nobody talking about the drama.

I see the point you are making, but that phrasing almost makes it sound like XL never gave XY anything. When he…
Xiaoyao interacted with Xiangliu with fear at the base of their relationship. She was always 'cowering' or on guard that he would hit her.
I wonder about her reckless behavior to keep teasing him while she was aware that he may retaliate with force, but this was exactly how she said that she used to play with a snake demon even when she knew it wanted to eat her...

What is this 'thrill seeking' Xiaoyao, being so bored with her life she look forward to any excitement even when it risks her own life?

Even by the time she was hanging with Fangfeng Bei or after she went into her coma, the xiaoyao in drama even said " He can't see me why am I afraid?"

I believe that was the implied idea... because that person wrote that Cangxuan and Jing made wine for Xiaoyao but she never made anything for them, but made delicious poisons for XL...

But how about Xiaoliu made a medicine pouch ( a known lover's token ) for Shiqi and made the sachet ( also a lover's token ) for Jing and Xiangliu never got anything close except for that precious moments snow globe farewell gift?

They also forget she used to make the poisons taste horrible when she was annoyed that she cannot beat him with her poisons.
To Xiaoyao, XL started like a challenge, and after FFB teaching her archery and XL saving her life, she was hoping 'General Xiangliu' would see her as a friend.

yeah those were Xiaoyao's little postcard moments...
But like when I was writing to my male penpal, I don't think I was falling in love with him by sending out little mementos from my life..
When you are making friends, you just do these things sometimes...

if XiaoYao truly deeply loved XiangLiu, but feared to admit it - who was TuShan Jing then....a handy substitute?.....in…
If TSJ was the male lead, then nobody would question all the tropes TH used to show clearly, he is Xiaoyao's one and only love.
From the tropes of 'saving his life', troubled courtship, to numerous deaths, TH adhered to the typical xianxia plot while making sure TSJ remains a 'pure' and 'deserving' lover.
Compared to Eternal Love's male lead, who even made the female lead dig out her eyes during their 'misunderstanding arc', the entrapment of TSJ can't even compare.
But TH still made sure that Jing would still hurt Xiaoyao's heart a few times, from their breakup to his 'death' - isn't that typical writing for xianxia?

Xiaoyao already said more than once, both in novel and drama :
the first time she ever liked anyone - TSJ
the first person she offer her kiss to - TSJ

There is no doubt in this, except for those who pity XL so much and hope that he can be more.

On one hand they acknowledge that Xiaoyao cannot trust anyone, not even the person who tried his best to get her to trust in him, yet they also think that by some logic defying mindset, that XY would 'give her heart' to her 'true love' when that XL gave her nothing to go on at all?

Lost You Forever is still just a xianxia, it just has no reincarnation cycles.
You don't even have to look very hard and all the tropes are present.

The one true love saved by the female lead - Tushan Jing ( now second male lead )
The one who will eventually become corrupted to get her- Cangxuan ( male lead)
The one ( usually the second male lead ) who loves the female lead but its one-sided

What LYF did well is really in the characterization of all these characters, so that their actions and thoughts are realistic and makes sense. Their decisions have accountability.

yes still mourning over the loss of our possessive and obsessive CX who has been toned down to a ''good guy''
Saaaame!! Its like they want them to act out the iconic scenes but don't want CX to be holding the pot so they threw it over to poor xinyue
even though Xinyue did try to kill Xiaoyao twice but her plotting at least made far more sense than this lame plot which caused TSJ to become collateral damage

Actually he doesn't love XY as much as he loves himself?
Everything he said was an excuse to justify his own actions, to keep her for himself, to trap her by his side...

If CX really loved XY, he would never have intentionally hurt her deeply again and again... and his betrayal was the worst for her, because she thought he was family she didn't have to 'guard' against...

Ideally it would have been great if existence of XY could bridge the gap between two countries. XY was daughter…
Well they already sent the ex-King of Chenrong, Fenglong's father to do the negotiations. It still failed. Xiaoyao can't be the one to negotiate for peace, because her father kind of betrayed Chenrong in the end by choosing her mother.
Her position is very awkward. Chichen was hated by Xiyan and even Chenrong clans because he killed many of their own, but in the end he still chose his love.

The weirdest moment in the drama was, when even Hong jiang faltered in his convictions and asked Xiangliu was he doing the right thing.
And the drama let Xiangliu have the 'final call' and tell his foster father they have to forge ahead?

Did the drama tried to steal the thunder from Hongjiang even in what was his defining trait and gave it to XL? But now it made no sense. XL didn't seem like he wanted to die, he still seemed to enjoy life... yet he was also constantly ready to die, and live like there is no tomorrow...

I was rewatching Blood of Youth and the character said " as long as someone is out there to remember you, then that person is not dead."
So why won't XL choose to live and remember all his fallen comrades with all his heads? Now that every last one of the Chenrong army falls, who else will remember them?

Its not in the drama... and as a last slap to yaolius, they don't go living on the sea islands either, since the part where she was given that sea map is written out of the drama as well..

They will just roam and find a place like how they lived in "Qingshui town"...

TSJ represented stability, which was very important for XY. XY had such a tumultuous childhood that she never…
But you overlook the parts when TSJ had been 'eliminated' not just once but twice.
First time was - he was forced to marry another woman, even having a 'kid'.
Second time was - it looked like he died.

Yet both times, Xiaoyao cannot forget him.
First time she can't forget, and second time she won't.

If TH didn't want to give XY a happy ending, Jing can remain gone, but Xiaoyao would still have chosen to live her life alone to remember him even though she will always be in pain.

There is love there. Its not just a transaction for a stable life.

And so sad but has Fenglong already been forgotten?
She could have gotten that life with Fenglong.
Really stable, since he is loyal to CX and will not dare to ever break his promises.
TSJ is his own man, not on her brother's payroll. Who is more 'stable'?

I always wondered with Xiangliu, was Xiaoyao just trying to 'conquer' him but kept failing. She was always trying to butter him up.

Even at the end in the novel, what she said was
' Am I so “不堪” unbearable that you won't even consider me as a friend? '

She had always just hoped for his approval and she never got any.
Xiaoyao's competitive spirit wanted to knock him down with her poison, but deep down, she wanted to 'tame' this great demon and at least have him call her his friend.

Besides it seems people only remember the pretty poisons, but forgot the black and ugly ones she made after she broke up with TSJ. ( because drama doesn't show it)
Xiaoyao's poisons are just a reflection of her mood.

"XY's fake affection toward Jing" ?! LOL, come on be fair..To me, and to many others: XY developed feelings for…
And so XY never fully trusted anyone else, from Jing, including Xiangliu.

She just can't trust anyone. Which was why her first steps towards Jing after she runaway from her nearly disastrous union with Fenglong made her realize that.

Also XY is definitely NOT Sang Tianer.
The drama and novel said as much.

Xiaoyao would rather suffer alone than hope a man will save her. She was behaving quite pathetically after her breakup, but who wouldn't since its a low point of their lives?

Jing who really understood Xiaoyao, said back in the dragonbone prison confession
"You won't show devotion first.
Sang tianer bets a lifetime with a false display of affection.
You can be sincere with all your heart but if he doesn't cherish you, you will abandon him".

And please stop with the superficial comparisons of XY and XL being like her parents. XL is nowhere near the passion and love of Chichen. I feel its an insult to her father when you compare that way.
Other that being a forbidden love story, XL can't even compare. His constant wavering between his 'duty' and 'Xiaoyao' just makes him look like a pathetic joke. He didn't even dare to take concrete steps towards Xiaoyao at all. Chichen was proud and strong in his love, and he gave up his country and his heart for Ah Heng.

"I've never truly believed in you because I don't dare to." Doesn't it sound similar to what Tian'er said?
I have no idea what you mean by this. I can only think that you have a language barrier because Sang Tian er said no such thing.

Tushan Jing is a controversial character. Although he had suffered a lot as well in his pursuit of XY but compared…
" He was probably not put in any situation where he had to take life and death decisions. Or at least we were not shown any."

Well he did excuse Lanxiang's betrayal and sent her home ( in novel she took her own life out of guilt ), but in the novel, they took apart Hou's network and 'eliminated' his group of 'private soldiers' - too loyal to convert so I assume they were killed.

Jing has always been like Cangxuan, he was groomed to be like Cangxuan.
Its not easy to be a CEO of a 'global company' when so many people from within the company and other clans are all out to try to look out for themselves. Since everyone is in agreement that Jing is 'great' at running business, that means he can deal tough when he needs to.

Only when it comes to matters pertaining to Xiaoyao, he becomes at a loss because he kept trying to get the best outcome but there just wasn't any.
Everyone had their own interests and he was alone in that fight since Xiaoyao was still being a passive onlooker.

Again, its the storytelling which chose to neglect showing any of whatever Jing does, and here is the obvious 'bland' effect the team was hoping for.

does XL just give up his love for XY, like I'm on ep 9 rn and this dude's like Imma just take a break and let…
Its probably all part of XL's grand exit plan... like Al Pacino's character in Scent of a woman...
eat an agreeable meal, have one last drink, and sniff Xiaoyao one more time....

There are interesting takes on his true intentions
the most obvious is: Xiaoyao can cause a rift between Chishui and Chenrong clans with the royal family for handing them such humiliation.. but it didn't work since Fenglong is just THAT loyal to Cangxuan + he didn't love Xiaoyao at all... all families received hefty emotional damage payouts from both Xiyan and Haoling kingdoms..

Some have suggested that by destroying Xiaoyao's reputation this way, she will never again have to marry for political reasons or to someone who cared about 'reputation' since XL knows Jing won't care about such things anyway...
I doubt that Xiaoyao would need to marry for political reasons in future since CX is firmly on the throne and is fully capably of marrying for his own political agenda now... so this is a bit stretching it and trying to excuse him...

This part in the novel will hopefully let you understand that what Cangxuan did to Xiaoyao was not to 'protect'…
Yes I am aware that perhaps you didn't know of the implications because that is exactly why the drama left out that part I guess...

won't be the first time the drama team itself trying hard to make CX less evil... but if he was like that, go the whole way, I can't stand how they twisted the ending to absolve him...
and he even can slap xinyue... can't stand his self-righteous behavior grrr
