Nobody is perfect in LYF. If Jing was so perfect, then there really is not much story to go on, because who won't be able to fall in love a perfect man? To love someone is to accept their faults and both are willing to work it out... that is growth for the characters and we also get to enjoy their angst and suffering while we watch the drama... hehe
After S2 E5 I hope nobody will compare Xiangliu to Chichen anymore. Chichen beats him hands down any day, in terms of love and commitment to his beloved.
The only things those two men have in common are 1)they both fight for the Chenrong army - though when Chichen was fighting, he still had a country, whereas Xiangliu was now fighting for a 'conviction'. 2) They both love women from the 'opposite' side
When it comes down to it, Chichen gave his heart without reserve to A Heng. There was no doubt he chose her over his country. He tried to give her whatever he had, even though their future was uncertain, she was the one who faltered.
Xiangliu is depicted as loving Xiaoyao so much but when it came down to it, he still can't do it. Whether he can't give up because of his loyalty to Hong jiang or his own aspirations, he did not choose Xiaoyao. If he had picked her up before the 7 days was up, both of them could have just disappeared together on the vast sea, to all the sea islands that was out there.
We won't know if they would eventually end up being a good long term match, but what we clearly have now is a 'love' where neither of them would even take the first step towards the other. Not much of an epic love in my book.
When it comes to loving without reservations, Tushan Jing's quiet way to love and watch over Xiaoyao is the one that can match the passion of his father-in-law. They will live and die for the women they love.
