Now imagine the uproar if the genders were reversed, we truly live in a society ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ This is somewhat tame to what this medium has to offer. If you fall into those who argue "this work support and glamorize minors grooming" then try to activate your secondary brain cell or just stick to your bl dramas. Anyway it's pointless to argue, the cinematography was off the charts tho.
Unlike the original series 2003, this is a watered down version, a sillier version. The original version is superior in every way. In the original version the character played their roles better, the master was a better master and the pet was a better pet. In this remake they removed 5 characters that I think they contributed significantly to the story and replaced them with unnecessary cardboard lifeless characters. In this remake they tried to experiment with having another couple playing pet-master which made the story worse given the nature of those characters and their outcome. I highly recommend the original version over this or just watch both. If you are wondering about the bizarre nature of the drama/manga setting then check out my comment on the original version.
On the other hand, this version has lots more romance and kissing.
Unlike the typical cheese Jdrama, this one reminds me of the bizarre nature of Japanese movies. It presents a completely unreal and absurd setting to wrap the plot around it nicely. It does it well by embracing its art. These kind of works you have to accept its setting to appreciate the story it entails. On another note, this is much better than the 2017 remake. Read my comment there to know why.
At some point around the middle there was a switch flipped completely changing Saeki Hiroto from a world class piece of shit character to someone with conscience. Really down value his character throughout. You also got Sakura making ridiculous faces, when you exaggerate this much it become jarring. It's like they are forcing her character to be unappealing. Lastly, the OST really cheap, unfitting and out of tone.
I understand she is a 30 virgin who never had a relationship but her character is written as stupid person lacking the most basics of common sense at times. You can make a character oblivious about relationships without making it stupid. Some saying 2nd ML is manipulative, meanwhile he serves as the sound of reason, a wing man until the last episode.
This is a proof that we are in dire need for a proper modern pure horror drama. It had massive potentials. I really enjoyed the first half. Unfortunately for the last 3 episodes it completely shifts its tone and just get weird leading to a below average ending that you only see in cheap horror movies. They must have changed the people working on it for the last 3 episodes. I yearn for a powerful modern psychological horror full length drama.
Really unnecessary commotion for the last episode, it just made the ending worse. This drama doesn't know what it wants to be. You may think it's about raising kids then it gets a bit serious when it introduces the love triangle and it tries to be romantic but it fails hard. You also got that weird sub-plot of that girl working with Janice. A proper remake would make it a decent drama with modern production.

The moral of the story is to pay attention in class, you never know when you will be jumping in stone age. Also, this short drama shows how much of a dire need we are for more leading roles of Kim Seul Gi.
Really really slow. It does the infamous trick to prolong a series by cycling any event or piece of information throughout the whole cast.
The plot element of "ex in-laws shaming lead for pursuing a relationship after 8 years of their spouse's death" is ridiculous and the writers know it that the reconciliation went by nonchalantly because it's genuinely a stupid made up conflict.
I didn't like how some characters were kind of abandoned. Min Ki the middle brother who is in the main cast got a decent screen time and contribution for the first half then he and Yoo Ri became a filler dummies to record their reactions by the events happening around them. Out of all the couples they were my favorites. Also, we got Shin Young and Kang jin who got a decent screen time for the first half then completely cut off. Did they ran out of budget to pay them?
Lastly, you got the writers trying to force sympathy points from what is happening to Mi Rim. Mi Rim as a character didn't develop at all, it's lacking too much that it makes Seung Gi development redundant. It wasn't shown she contributes much too their relationship, she did contribute to their family by working and raising the child but that's it. All the work for the relationship left on Seung Gi to handle. I'm not trying to justify what Seung Gi did but for a relationship to work it needs both sides and the writers know it by looking at the other couples.
It could have been a decent family drama but the shortcomings outweigh its merits.
I really didn't like Shin Ae replacement, Oh Ji Eun was a better fit for the character. They should have halted production. Also, the FL actress feels too dull and bland although her N.korean accent was good. I liked Hee Ra the most out of the female cast for the first half but then she barely appeared on screen and when she does they changed her personality.
Cast aside, the drama is seriously bad writing wise. I believe this was made to introduce toddlers to makjang dramas. Believe it or not I didn't hate Shin Ae as much as I hated Jang Go's mother. You can't have this fucked up manipulative character without supporting it with a proper motive. Again this all goes back to shit writing.
Why is it so damn hard to find a good family drama!!
Great cast, great premise, great characters and setting but it fails miserably to deliver anything substantial. On top of that, the title is misleading, don't expect much romance. I really wanted to like it but it's not good. It's not that the FL getting stupid but the writing is dog shit. I think this is the worst antagonist I've seen in a drama so far.
Only watch it if you wanna see Lee Si Young playing a tomboy role.
