Man do I love abandoned hospital settings. The grainy dvd horror media from the 2000's are always a joy. It may have its issues but if you are even into horror then go for it for sure. You will like the atmosphere.
I was expecting more of it. Found it boring, focuses too much on studying. It's a slice of life/school drama, barely had any comedy or romance. Sure you have the obvious message about dreams and passions but it's too sugary coated to take it for a face value. Last two episodes really brought it down.
It cuts so many corners despite having the time to show it. It would have been a better fit for a 150 minutes movie with its current state. You had 7 episodes and they were barely utilized to tell what could have been a coherent story. There was a major tone shift for the last two episodes that came out of nowhere just for the sake of concluding the story.
This is the most generic rom-com Jdrama I've seen so far. As if it was generated by a bot. FL lead reminds me of Jung Ryeo Won especially with her lips.
I really wanted to like it but it suffers from big glaring issues. I would love to see a remake of this drama from Netflix with widescreen cinemascope, rich psychedelic color palette, wide pan shots and a dash of spiciness.
Undoubtedly Usami stole the show! Turns out to be better than expected but it faces some shortcomings. The obvious thing I noticed is how loud and distracting the background music most of the time. Two characters having a conversation and I could only hear the background music getting louder and more intense by the second. I see complains about rushed ending/lack of chemistry, both are somewhat true because the leads relationship kick-started too late in the series. Which is fine because the main focus of the series was the FL journey not their relationship. I would actually be okay if they had her not ending up with anyone. I found that the leads 'decision' by the end was completely irrational and it contradicts with what the drama built up so far.
Zero chemistry between leads, it relies on the alleged memory gap to tell that they once loved each other but it barely shows any (the brief flashbacks don't help either). Messy love square full of bs. None of which are interesting characters. The whole amnesia play wasn't that good.
I hate how they constantly interrupt an event/dialogue by having someone walking in. This cheap tasteless trick does nothing more than elevating my frustration, amateur trick to prolong a series. Write better! This weird pentagon love relationships completely useless to the story. On top of that, you get a handful of fast and short snippets of other couples that bare no weight to the story or whatsoever. This doesn't allow you to get invested in any of the cast. The obsessive nature of the ML leads to a forced manufactured chemistry between them. Their feelings didn't develop in a meaningful way, hence the romance between them didn't feel impactful.
Promising premise for a comedic setting but fails to deliver a worthy experience.
Once they lay out the basic elements of the story it gets really boring and you lose any interest you had. Bland generic characters playing office, maybe FL was okay but non of the rest. It didn't have any room for romance yet it tried to incorporate that and of course it doesn't deliver on that, it just makes it weird especially the end of ep9.
Another proof that anime-esque works can't be carbon copied into a live action work. It lacks any worthy substance, this is the equivalence of a Dharmann video.

Now imagine the uproar if the genders were reversed, we truly live in a society ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ This is somewhat tame to what this medium has to offer. If you fall into those who argue "this work support and glamorize minors grooming" then try to activate your secondary brain cell or just stick to your bl dramas. Anyway it's pointless to argue, the cinematography was off the charts tho.
Unlike the original series 2003, this is a watered down version, a sillier version. The original version is superior in every way. In the original version the character played their roles better, the master was a better master and the pet was a better pet. In this remake they removed 5 characters that I think they contributed significantly to the story and replaced them with unnecessary cardboard lifeless characters. In this remake they tried to experiment with having another couple playing pet-master which made the story worse given the nature of those characters and their outcome. I highly recommend the original version over this or just watch both. If you are wondering about the bizarre nature of the drama/manga setting then check out my comment on the original version.
On the other hand, this version has lots more romance and kissing.
Unlike the typical cheese Jdrama, this one reminds me of the bizarre nature of Japanese movies. It presents a completely unreal and absurd setting to wrap the plot around it nicely. It does it well by embracing its art. These kind of works you have to accept its setting to appreciate the story it entails. On another note, this is much better than the 2017 remake. Read my comment there to know why.
At some point around the middle there was a switch flipped completely changing Saeki Hiroto from a world class piece of shit character to someone with conscience. Really down value his character throughout. You also got Sakura making ridiculous faces, when you exaggerate this much it become jarring. It's like they are forcing her character to be unappealing. Lastly, the OST really cheap, unfitting and out of tone.
