On Gen Y Season 2 Jan 26, 2022
I was watching Wayu at the beginning of the episode and I felt like I was at the event horizon of a black hole. How is he able to make time just stand still like that? It feels like a Jedi mind trick, but I was actually enjoying it this time, amazingly. I found his scenes rather soothing and they seemed almost artistically done whereas they just felt very bland before because I think the inner turmoil of choosing between Pa and Thune has become something beautiful rather than a cloying and irritating dilemna. That's mostly because Pa and Thune have become much more interesting figures for me - Pa is now a tragic and benevolent figure rather than the neglectful lover from the past, and Thune seems to be more romantic and less wooden than before. This whole drama seems much more elevated and I could almost hear the Wagnerian music in several scenes today which had this wonderful late romantic Victorian quality.

The scenes with Pok were very sad and I have no idea why he takes it from those other swimmers. I like his stoicism but am also thinking he's some sort of masochist, and that the scenes where he's beaten up are emblematic of the relationship he has with Tong. I guess it's an honor thing, but I must admit I can't relate at all. I think he could round up his friends to beat up these guys like they do in the other Thai dramas. I'm not saying that's a great solution but it seems better than being a daily punching bag which is realistically not good for your health, especially the way these guys lay into him.

Sandee's and Phai's scenes were just wonderful. I must admit that I hate Sandee leaving his role as the arch villain but I am secretly hoping he is just being murderously nice and going underground like Emperor Palpatine. Bank is an incredible actor and the mysterious melange of expressions on his face are really beautiful to see, from contrition to apathy to smoldering lust. I didn't know what I was watching and he is the quintessential enigmatic figure in this drama that seems to have ten times more depth than anyone else. I really like Phai this episode and he seemed to have a nice level of clarity, for once, and acted with the quiet and assured dignity of an Eliza Bennet in this episode, rather than the moping, whiney kid he's been up till now.

I don't like the Kit and Mark scenes at all. Kit's forcing them to separate is so cruel and so unnecessary. As someone who experienced a long distance relationship, no one does it unless it is absolutely necessary or they, secretly, don't get along with their partner. It's not clear if this separation is necessary and Kit never explains that it is which is another cruelty enacted on his part and when he talks to Mark in this blithe and carefree way on a zoom chat, I was thinking he is partly a sociopath to be acting this way. Their interactions make no sense to me and their scenes have become almost unwatchable. It would have been far better to have them remain totally cute and harmless rather than to have injected this fake feeling, overkill drama.

Overall, this was an incredible episode and the best of this season for me. I've been watching this as a guilty pleasure, but I can honestly say, now, that it is quite worth watching as a really enjoyable drama with some solid writing, directing, and acting.

It’s on GagaOOlala. It might be found later on Daily Motion, but I always encourage people to pay for it. I’m not sure this show is worth it but GagaOOlala has a lot of good original content

This was very tiresome and lifeless. I couldn't believe how it just dragged along, and even though I like the main character, he was either asleep, or drunk, or doing some mindfulness meditation for half his scenes. It was also surprisingly hard to follow - I had no idea why he's leaving his flat, or what his role is in the marketing company, or why he's picking up the doctor, or why everyone is acting weird at the marketing meeting. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but I've never paid so little attention to the plot, mainly because I was half-asleep watching this, but also because this is so jumbled and incoherent.

Non is a perfect example of the old saying nice guys finish last. If you're trying to win someone over, just use every advantage you have, especially if you have no chance of being caught. He had the perfect set up, the flowers for making a bouquet were in his room and Khaitoon 100% thought he sent them to him. I'm not advocating people be conniving and use tricks to make people fall in love with them, but in this context he was fine telling a little fib.

Black, as most people suspected in the last episode, was being tested by his gang. He fails the test but I think the idea that he is vested in saving Yok, Gram, Gumpa, and Sean is what convinces the others that he is still worthy of being in the gang. I like how this episode centers on this conflict between ideology and compassion, and I think from the test at the beginning of this episode, and at many points during the raid on the manufacturing plant, White makes everyone question their motives. There is nothing wrong with that because they could, as White says, become as bad as the people they oppose. As often happens when a revolution attempts to take out a dictator, they become as repressive as the tyrannical government they replaced. White's personality is also distinct from Black in his philosophical belief that, basically, the ends do not justify the means, or the means are as important as the ends. He also believes people shouldn't be sacrificed for the sake of one's ideology. Considering that the plans of Gumpa and his team are pretty half-baked this might end up saving all their lives. I imagine as Tawi becomes more aware of the threat of this vigilante group, security will be much more difficult to penetrate. Tawi would likely only be taken out by the involvement of a much larger network of people, working with possibly another oligarch [that was less destructive to the general populace]. Vigilantism coupled with social protest would be a more effective way for Gumpa's group to get what they want, and White might possibly lead them there while helping the group connect to other powerful individuals that might help them against Tawi. Sean is just blind with rage at what was done to his father which is completely understandable, but he shouldn't be the one to lead the group against Tawi since he can't really focus and think rationally - he might not see it, but White will help him get what he wants far better than he ever could.

I don't know why they felt they had to recreate season 1, or part 1 of season 1 [why is it broken up like that?], but I don't like the idea at all. There are too many side couples and that's a huge handicap. I felt like part 1 focused effectively on the main couple, but I don't know how we can focus on them anymore and I'm not invested in the other couples. I really like Khaitoon and Valen but their script is just a comedy of errors that is just repetitive and irritating at this point. They just need to move things along with their story especially since there are so many other couples now.
On Color Rush Season 2 Jan 22, 2022
It was ok but there was very little continuity with season 1. It was different aesthetically, and atmosphere-wise from the previous season as well as missing one of the main leads. I don't think it was bad as far as a plot but it wasn't great whereas the first season seemed quite innovative. Overall it's pretty bland but does have enough drama to keep you entertained, but it's got very little romance for a BL. It was not what I was expecting given the promise of the 1st season. I always imagined a 2nd season would help complete the 1st which had a lot of open plot lines but this finishes the story in a pretty unsatisfying way.

Title Bad Buddy
I thought that was sensational. I know there are many that don't like Bad Buddy and might compare it to something like I Told Sunset About You, or other artistically magnificent dramas, but I love this for being the epitome of your normal BL executed to perfection. All the ridiculous pernicious tropes were removed including screeching lady boys, uke/seme relationships, jealous boyfriends, toxic female leads, etc. The acting and directing was flawless, and the plot was seamless with a storyline that alluded to Romeo and Juliet in a very effective and cogent way. I came to BL's for the effervescent, naive, child-like, and joyous aspects of life brought to us in a wonderful Asian setting and Bad Buddy delivers this like no other. I'm not a young teenage girl either - you can enjoy all this being much older because when you see so many tragedies in the real world, BL's remind you of all the things that are the best aspects of life. Of all the normal BL's I've watched this has been the best, and it didn't have any seriously deep drama in it. It was just a quiet romance delivered with the best chemistry between two leads that I've ever seen. There were virtually no mistakes - no illiterate dialogue, no super-slow scenes, no weird editing, etc. There were the silly fight scenes early on but that was about the extent of the poor execution in this drama.

I want to say as an Asian that the ending makes a lot of sense to me. If Pat and Pran went off on their own, and disregarded their parents that would not be consistent with this mild-mannered series. It would be perfectly fine if this was a Western drama, but Asians just don't abandon their parents unless they are in the extreme minority. And you could have a show like that if that was one of the main points of the drama, and it could be somewhat ground-breaking, but this show wasn't going there. For this show, that kind of ending would have been weird. Pat and Pran are also both intelligent and practical and know how to get what they want without resorting to drastic measures, as can be seen in the latter half of episode 12. I also like how the parents' feud is slowly dissipating, and that also seems very realistic to me. We could have had a dramatic confrontation during episode 11 with the parents, but this is more believable to me and fits better with the placid quality of this show.

I'm going to miss this forum. It's been the most lively one ever. I like how so many of the comments were so positive and would like to see that in more forums on MDL. I would much rather see people expressing their love for something rather than ranting about how terrible a show is. I don't even mind the art of criticism but there is far too much negativity, in general. Thanks to everyone for spending a lot of time researching every point of this series and showing us every nuance of the relationship between Pat and Pran, highlighting the very high level of detail and thoughtfulness that went into the screenplay. That's something that would be nice to see in other forums as well. Also thanks for being such warm, sharing, and generous people. Good luck to all of you and see you soon elsewhere.

I thought I'd do the right thing and subscribe to QIY to watch this. Unfortunately it didn't work, but I figured it out - I just had to set the VPN to Thailand, but now it works set to the US [who knows why]. Just such a tricky network and it has no BL content, or at least it's not easy to find. I'll just cancel my subscription after a month like last time - at least they got $6 out of me, but they really should get some more BL content if they want people like me to stick around. I've stuck around with Viki because they have a fair sized sampling of BL's and have earned my membership.
On Gen Y Season 2 Jan 19, 2022
Finally caught up on this. Well Episode 5 was the best and worst episode of Gen Y of either season. I really liked the Wayu parts with P'Pa, and most of the interactions of Pa with Kit and Thanu. Those were the best scenes I'd ever seen on Gen Y -very touching and heartfelt. I just hated the Kit and Mark sections. I can't understand why Thai screenwriters are so inconsistent. The plot, before, was acceptable, but now they're doing something that makes no sense. Kit wasn't that bad a character before despite being a little mean to Mark, but this is just too much heartlessness for his character and it is juxtaposed with his really kind and sentimental scenes with Pa. It just seems illogical to me. It would have been better if they kept the original idea of Kit going to the US to help with Pa's cure. This new idea is just stupid and even if it does happen in real life, this show is anything but realistic, or in the style of a verismo drama. Unfortunately this scenario has to play out for several more episodes, and perhaps till the end of the series and will act as a loadstone that will drag the rest of the show down. I'm still in this for Sandee, PokTong, and even ThanuWayu, but I see little hope for MarkKit [and KohJack is just white noise]. I like the feel of this series. It's sort of between a normal BL and a soap opera which is sort of unique. It also has a very high density of handsome men, perhaps the most I've seen in a single show, but that really isn't the only reason I'm watching this.

I’m still watching this because of my very low standards [some would call them invisible standards], but I really do like Sandee. I like his beautiful look of evil, those smoldering malevolent stares are just so magical for me. I see now why the dark side of the force was so seductive, and don’t you ever turn back Sandee [like Darth Vader]. Stay true to your evil self or you’re gonna break my heart. What do all these dumpy good people have next to Sandee? He’s carrying the whole show by himself. Whenever Sandee appears it’s like we’re watching a different show in a parallel universe. He’s gotta be in my top 5 BL characters of all time and makes this show totally worth watching.

Title Not Me Spoiler
This is a really complex episode. There are so many plot lines that it's hard to keep track, but it feels like it's sort of breezy enough that no one is left feeling baffled. Gram is possibly in love with Black's possible girlfriend but also possibly in love with Black [isn't that convoluted enough for you?], and Sean is sleeping with his friend/love interest while also being attracted to Black [who again is possibly in love with the two other people I just mentioned]. Yikes, that's enough complexity for Hercule Poirot to get confused, but it's done well enough that we don't think much about it.

I like how another complex legal question is introduced without seeming too pedantic. Today's lesson was about monopolies. On a funny side note, I thought White was talking about the board game, for a second, because he seemed to have virtually no clue what Gram and his ex were talking about, but it's cool how they relate everything back to Tawi, like he's the textbook case about everything that is broken with the law system. Tawi is buying up the town and is probably eliminating the competition or preventing any small businessmen from effectively competing with him. I would definitely agree with Gram on how he's abusing the system - his ex and White seem pretty naive in thinking customers really have a "choice" in this broken marketplace.

I like all the tests the kids have to take to progress in their chosen profession of street vigilantes. I guess this part feels a little silly but this is obviously a semi-fantasy scenario reminiscent of Charlie's Angels, so it's ok that they have to jump huge distances across open gaps between tall buildings when that will never really happen. It was more a test about overcoming their fear, I guess, which has some nice poetic elements to it. Gumpa seems to know something about White because he excuses all his weird behavior. At this point even the others suspect White - I mainly believe it's because never in history has a cocky bastard ever turned as timid as White. Everyone must at least think he must have had a seizure or some other strange brain abnormality to be acting so weird.

I like the new twist with Yok's love interest being revealed to be a cop. This was just totally unexpected which is definitely a sign of a very good plot. I love all the weird interactions between these two. It almost felt like Unar was reciprocating Yok's feelings and was going to say something affectionate but he suddenly changes back to the paranoid Unar pretty quickly, and I can't tell if that really has anything to do with the fact that he's a cop. It's like he's living undercover from both Yok and his other fans as well as the cops [like being a double agent], so maybe he always feels he has to cover things up - like it's a natural instinct. Well, it's all very complex and intriguing, and makes this couple very fascinating to watch.

This was just another great episode, and this is definitely one of the best BL's I've ever watched. It certainly is trying lots of new things, and has a level of complexity and intricate plot-weaving that is way beyond most BL's.

I was washing the dishes and was mulling over their progression from fighting for each other in ep 10 to acceptance…
That's it exactly for me. I believe they had to go back for their parents - Asians like myself understand this and I think there is some confusion in this forum as to why Pran "gave up" so easily. I think they have to go back to mend the relationship with their parents. But I think they will fight to stay in a relationship no matter what - that's who their characters are and I think it's just odd to think they might just give up.

This was yet another beautiful episode. It was more idyllic even than the idyllic episode 6 and ends even more tragically. I thought I could watch several more episodes in this wonderful atmospheric setting with just the two mains and their tender love story without the distraction of a cluster of people surrounding them. It’s like in a symphony during a tranquil movement with just two violins playing a duet, playing against each other with subtle harmonies without the rest of the instruments interfering. I loved just listening to their voices in this episode in an impressionistic way. This is really a model couple which you rarely see in BL’s, and the script here captured all the inflections and tones of all the love they conveyed to each other in everyday, mundane conversations. I think the script is really tight and there was no excess – you can tell someone worked on this to get it just right without seeming to. I liked the scene where Pat pretends to throw away his Sim card and you think how impetuous he is, but it’s actually just a joke and reflects on how Pat is very thoughtful and responsible which Pran clearly understands because he saw through Pat’s fakeout right away.

How this couple understands each other and are fighting the inevitable return home in so many subtle scenes was done wonderfully. Pat always fights so hard and unremittingly for their love and that is why he fights with Pran about the job at Yod’s, but he does understand, in the end, that he has to face his parents – again, Pran understands Pat so well and can see he would eventually get there. I think he is only surprised for a moment when Pat says he wants to stay at the resort forever, but he knows Pat will be responsible.

I know this couple will stay together because they are really strong fighters. They already act like a couple that has been together for many years and I am certain they will fight like Hell to stay together despite any outside forces. Just like Tang says that he would not let the outside world change him, I’m sure Pat and Pran will do the same, and I believe that line was meant to be symbolic for them. Pat fights relentlessly for his love and I’m sure Pran will do the same. They might separate temporarily to appease their parents, but they are never going to drop their relationship. P’Aof has written an excellent script and has developed these characters meticulously, so it would make little sense to change their whole persona in episode 12. I believe Pat and Pran will wait till they can live on their own without their parent’s support before they renew their relationship, and they could always meet secretly before then. I think the plot twist at the end is more to create drama [but done organically and realistically], and is not indicative of how this drama will end.

Watching this Bl, I’ve been thinking about the tragic social inequality in Thailand. It’s apparent that there are many people making over $100 million a year and those that are making only about $10 million. I feel after looking at Thanu’s mansion we can safely assume that we are safe from having to watch one of the lower-class BL’s where people don’t need a car to get from one side of their mansion to the other (ugh!). What’s also good about this show is that Wayu has to pick one super-handsome millionaire over another, rather than having to pick some poor waif. It’s a great study in the effects of affluenza and Wayu has it pretty bad – it might be one of the worst cases I’ve ever seen. Having caviar and champagne on your own private jet might not seem like a hardship but hardly anyone can understand the spiritual damage that this kind of lifestyle causes. Looking at poor Wayu’s face you see the deep sadness of the princess who couldn’t sleep for weeks because of a pea that was under 20 mattresses, and you think his pain if far greater than mine, because I’m used to the hard world having only $200 in my savings account.

This show is almost ranked at 8.9. I'm just guessing this because it is in the top tier of shows with an 8.8 rating [only two shows above it and 30 below]. It's only taken a few hundred votes to get this show from ranking 66 to 51 [about from 3950 to 4650], and it seems certain they must be mostly positive votes. Other series have thousands more ratings so hopefully that means Bad Buddy will keep going up. As an example ITSAY has over 13,000 ratings vs. 4600 here. I think the show is finishing strong and a lot of the earlier lower votes are being displaced. It would be really awesome to see a 9.0 by the end of this series.

I don't know how they tally "watchers" which affects the popularity rating. Is it from people who come on to this page? And I still have no idea what the difference between top show is vs. top ranked. Anyone who knows about these things, please let me know.

Reading some posts below, I just want to say that I don't condone vigilantism but I'm not sure how effective or not it might be. Peaceful protests work in pretty civilized societies but try some of those things in a brutal dictatorships and you might not like the results. I don't think this series ennobles or dignifies violence nor does it disparage it, but uses it as a plot device. White will probably have a journey in this series where he agrees with Black's friends to some degree but will probably revert to his more temperate stance on violence when it comes to achieving social justice. This is just my prediction, but that would be the logical progression for his character - he'll agree with some of what his brother did far more than he was prepared to acknowledge, but will later see that these measures go too far (again just a guess). The others characters are motivated by a strong sense of justice and will perhaps learn other means of gaining their ends without risking their lives and destroying the property of wealthy oligarchs [some of them, after all, are law students].

I think this drama is exploring this complex mix of personal expressions of the need for justice and these ideas can take a wide variety of forms - even the justice that each seeks is highly personal. Yok is motivated by the injustice against the disabled, Sean seems to be motivated by a personal grudge against a single individual, Gram seems to be influenced by a need to reform the law system, and who knows what Black was motivated by. The graffiti, and the performance art that rail against the wealthy are not inclusive of everything this drama is trying to express, and serve more as a kind of impressionism, or backdrop rather than things that are emblematic of the complete philosophical theses of the series.

This is a very serious drama that goes beyond BL, and is very interesting in its questioning of the Thai legal system. My theory is that this show isn't being shut down because it isn't specific enough, nor does it name the monarchy or the current junta as being complicit in the current state of corruption. I believe that the current Thai government has several oligarchs that control things, so you can get away with blaming one nameless oligarch, or just blaming the blind beast called the legal system. This protest in this drama is nebulous enough, and everyone can feel good for the call to social justice while no one is actually blamed for causing this injustice. Nonetheless, Not Me is still doing a lot better than hardly any other drama to bring the idea of social justice into the limelight and should be commended for doing so.

Wow, that was incredible. This series has never disappointed me [except maybe some of Wai's behavior which was mostly made up for]. This episode is just sterling, and if anyone had any qualms about the last episode this should make up for almost all of it. Wai is now clearly not the villain and the real tragedy of the story of the father relegates Wai to the minor position [as antagonist] that he always held. Both parents should be rightfully accused of virtual child abuse for having passed on their personal vendetta to their children even if Pran's mom is less culpable than Pat's father. There is never any excuse for warping a child's mind by filling it with hatred, and if Pat and Pran hadn't become friends it could have messed up their minds for their entire lives - as it is, you can see how much trauma it has caused the both of them. I just want to emphasize the awesome acting job of both parents here, that completely captured the malevolence and angst of this tortured relationship [god knows why they live so close to each other]. I thought the build up to the confrontation was done so well this episode. Initially the father is forgiving and accepting of Pran since he helped his son. Later on, there was the small fake-out as they were horsing around when Pran pretends to see the father which is symbolic of their carefree lifestyle in hiding, but then the real confrontation with the father occurs right afterwards. It was such a quick and effective transition from silliness to pathos that helped create an even more effective level of drama. When Pat's father throws Pran to the floor, that was just the most intense moment of the whole series. The tension in this episode was just incredible. A little afterwards the scene with Pran crying while confronting his mother occurs. The emotionally heart-rending conversation there is followed by the slap which is as dramatic and painful as when the father throws Pran on the ground. Right after that, Pran's mom confronts Pat's dad in the most dramatic scene of the series, baring out all her anger, and self-pity in a tour-de-force of acting while the father looks at her with smoldering rage and a certain stoicism. Pran's mom does this as a gesture of how when she slapped Pran, that Pat's father is really to blame taking none of the culpability for her actions, herself. I think that is symbolic of how she has been hurting Pran the whole time via her hatred for Pat's father. You can see by the end of the episode how all these confrontations have emotionally destroyed Pran, and that he feels forced to finally escape from his mom. Nanon's acting on the rooftop just captured so vividly and effectively someone that has been incredibly traumatized, and Ohm's acting really perfectly captured his personal sadness mixed with the need to provide comfort to his lover who is in serious pain. This was just an incredible series of great scenes that just left me breathless, and was some of the best I've ever seen in any BL, or any other kind of drama for that matter. There are a lot of other mainstream BL's out there that are entertaining, but there are none that will move you like this. This was a combination of great screen-writing and brilliant acting that is at the pinnacle of what you could expect, and this BL will certainly finish as being one of the most iconic, and ground-breaking dramas ever.
